Sons this thread is for all you shoe enthusiasts out there..I am trying to decide on a new basketball shoe for this upcoming spring. Right now I think it's between

the Jordan Flight 45 High's

http://www.eukicks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Jordan-Flight-45-High-white-black-varsity-maize.jpg

and the 2k10 Huarache's

http://images.sneakernews.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/33mor5e.jpg

Any thoughts, experience with either of these 2 shoes, or any other good shoes on the market right now are appreciated.

I bought these last month. First pair of basketball shoes I've bought in over 10 years. Bought them because they were my favorite shoes I had when I was a kid.....still haven't worn them out of my house.

Zoom Kobe V is the best basketball shoe ever created, followed closely by the Zoom Kobe IV. The Air Max LeBron VII is pretty damn good too.

I also never understood why some people complain and won't wear a low top shoe because of the lack of "ankle support." I was reading a review on those Kobe V's and someone was saying how they were the best shoe they've ever worn etc but "they're still a low top shoe, so he's going to wear an ankle sleeve or something next time." I've played competitive basketball most of my life and always mostly worn low top's, and only had one somewhat serious ankle injury that healed up and hasn't given me any problems since. I think relying on high tops and ankle braces for support even when your ankles are healthy just makes them weak, and therefore easier to sprain. Just my two cents, /end rant.

High tops give people peace of mind, but not a whole lot of extra support over a low top. And most ankle sprains in basketball happen in situations that are out of your control anyways. There's no high top in the world that will prevent you from rolling your ankle if you land awkwardly on someone's foot.

Totally agreed, I just :lmao every time I see some dumbass thinking otherwise. It's all just a mental thing. Besides, to me, I'm alot faster and able to stop on a dime and move around a lot better in a low top. High tops can seem somewhat restricting.

As a quick player who likes to slash a lot, and someone who bases a lot of their game off of a 36 inch vertical, the shoes make a huge impact on my game. $100-130 isn't that much considering I only buy about one pair of shoes per year, IMHO.

If I wasn't a broke college student as well, I would get a pair of Kobes IMHO.

These were my team shoes for my 9th grade year which was 5 and a half years ago, and luckily my foot stopped growing around that time. I've bought other shoes since then, but I've kept these in pretty good condition since I got them and are usually my go to shoes when it's time to throw down on the court (unless it's wet outside tbh). AFAIK they're just random Nike Shox and Horry used to wear them some back in 04-05. They're also a lot lighter than they look IMHO.

http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/pics/47900_01_dt.jpg

I bought a pair Melo 5.5's when they came out, which was a waste of $133. I hooped in them all of 2 times. They are pretty to look at, but they feel like you're playing with cinder blocks on your feet tbh.

tbh the Al Harrington proteges are good shoes. Obviously nothing like the Kobes but I can't find too many types of shoes that come in my size (14) so I bought those for $35 bucks and they aren't bad.

brah i know this is going to sound lame but the Kobe IV and Kobe V have been absolute gamechangers in the basketball shoe industry. Those shoes are so light and responsive that they will literally make you run faster, cut quicker, and jump higher. No bullshit.

Putting on Kobe V's is like when Benny The Jet Rodriguez put on his PF Flyers. It's like pure powah.

I'm rocking these:

http://sneakermaniac.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/bosh1.jpg

And they do make a difference in my game. They're light and they respond well to pivoting, but still offer ample traction.

The fact that I don't jam my toes in them or lose balance as easily is awesome as well. Definitely worth the money I paid for them.

I play with a pair of KOBE IV and KOBE V...you would be surprised of the ankle support. Pretty good actually and with it being a low cut, it still gave good ankle support with a lot more mobility compared to high tops.

Both Hyperdunks and Kobe V have a ZOOM AIR(real thin air pockets) which is a low profile air cushion air that provides you more of a court feel on the bottom of your feet. The KOBE V and Zoom air cushioning is what I prefer to use when I play Ball because I like to run and slash all while being able to feel the floor more because the ZOOM AIR sits lower to the floor.

If your a low post guy that strictly stays in the paint calling for the ball, doing low post moves, or fighting for rebounds period, I would go with an AIR MAX BUBBLE. They sit higher off the floor because of the big air bags but the provide AWESOME cushioning for hard landings. The only downside to it is that it sits so high, you can role your ankle more because the big air bags might role. I prefer not to use these because the big air bags bug when your run a lot and slash, they tend to roll a lot.

Lebron VII's is a shoe that has a new type of AIR MAX bubble, I dont know how these will perform but i'm sure they've been designed to handle his hard style of play, providing tough cushion and free mobility for slashing. Downside is the cost. ($170)

Overall, I would go with the Kobe V's because they are a good quality shoe. Good for slasher and provide good ankle support. I think JR Smith, DeRozen and a few of the Lakers are sporting it this year.

Hyperizes are still quite new on the market compared to lets say hyperdunks so they haven't gone down in price yet.

Hope this helps out, feel free to ask me any other questions.

Probably the pair I'm getting after I wear out my hyperdunks.

Are those blue/black shoes limited release? I'm not a fan of Laker colors, and my hyperdunks are already red/black, so I'd like something different, but I'm not gonna pay $50+ extra for a different color.

yah..the dark knights are limited edition and the only way you are gonna get it is thru resellers, which are usually $30-$50 above retail. Limited edition shoes cost the same as the general release shoes, they just sell out faster.

If there is a House of Hoops by your place, you have a good chance of getting limited editions if you just come a few hours before opening.

Here are my two recent basketball shoes purchases in the last couple months.

I got these at a Nike outlet for like $70. These are I believe last year's Jordan Team Elites. I liked the color scheme and I probably won't wear them to hoop in. I just liked how they looked.

I was ready to buy a pair of Kobe's but wasn't sure what color I was going to get. Then I was at the Sports Authority to buy a new pair of sunglasses and I saw these on sale for $80. I liked the all black look. These are the Hyperdunk lows. Plus they were $50 cheaper than the Kobe's.

Actually TheMACHINE the hyperdunk has lunar foam, not Zoom Air. The HD is a great shoe for a short period of time because the Lunar Foam tends to bottom out. This is the main reason the Kobe IV and V have Zoom Air (low profile gel based bag) in the heel and forefoot.

As far as shoes go, I like the AMLeBron VII, the styling is great and it is VERY comfortable with the 360 air bag. In fact it is so nice I have a few pairs myself.

Yeah I've played in both. Overall I like the V slightly better, it feels more comfortable to wear, and they're even lighter. Alot of people say the IV has a little bit better traction, but overall the differences are pretty minimal.

I am starting to trust big name shoe companies less and less when it comes to basketball shoes. They just seem to get lighter and lighter losing quite a bit of support for your ankles.

I honestly have a pair of Starbury's and had them for a couple years now. They were cheap, a bit on the heavy side, but I have never sprained my ankle no matter how hard I played. The shoe is ugly as fuck, but its functionality for the price is superb.

That's perhaps been the most pleasant surprise about Hyperdunks, for me. There is a huge amount of lateral stability. I've never felt so confident playing in a shoe. I haven't rolled my ankle a SINGLE time in them, except once where a big oaf landed on my foot and turned it, and even then, it only hurt for a few seconds.

I seriously feel like I can break anyone down in this shoe. It's got so much traction and it doesn't give at ALL when you cut or land hard on them. And your heel sits perfectly in the back of the shoe, there's no bending or flexing unnecessarily. LOVE this shoe, and that's coming from someone who said he'd never wear Nike's again.

Made these shoes on Nike ID today.

And the Dark Knight look-a-likes:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/whisperingstorm/NikeDougKI.jpg?t=1270923871

So hot. But again, I don't know if I could play in them.

The Nike ID thing kind of frustrates me though. There are parts of the shoe that you can ONLY pick to be in black or white. It means you're limited to B/W as either a primary, secondary, or tertiary color, which really limits the full range of color customization.

What do you guys think of the Kobe IV Olympic edition?

Yeah those bad boys look niiiice. I'll keep a look out for them.

Same price as the others? Everywhere I've seen them, I believe they're like $130. I don't generally purchase stuff online. So in regular sports shoe stores, is that the expected price as well if they're not on sale?

Here's how it goes:

General release shoes are $130.00

Limited edition shoes are $130.00 but sell out fast. Some shoes are sold online like Eastbay, kb24, and nike.com. Some shoes are only released in House of Hoops. You would typically line up a few hours before opening to cop a pair. If not, you'd have to buy it from re-sellers for usually $40-$50 more.

Release date has not been set yet. Im sure they'll be limited editions.

Hey Machine, you hear any news about the Blackout version of the Kobe Vs yet? I've gone to a few sports shoes stores the last couple weeks and no one has any news about these. Almost every place didn't even know what the "Blackout" edition was. I've googled to see if there's a release date but haven't seen it yet. You got any info? Much appreciated.

If and when they come out here in Detroit, I'm like 98% positive I'll be buying a pair.

I need to confess a sin.

I was right about to make a post saying "wtf is Kobe doing making a Duke shoe when he went to North Carolina?".....and halfway through typing I realized my error. I committed that most heinous of basketball fan sins - I mistook Kobe for Jordan.

May God and all basketball fans forgive me for this grave error.

I hate most basketball shoes, but Kobe's low-rise shoes look cool. I just don't get people wearing hightops tbh :lol

Recently bought Anatomix Spawn Low, but immediately returned it. I need new hoop shoes (I play mostly indoor and I have decent outdoor beaters). I'm 10.5 and slightly narrow, so I was looking at these. What yall think? What yall rockin with and are there any out there who ball?

The mainstream shoe brands like Nike/Adidas/Reebox make shoes for skinny dicks I mean feet so you should be fine.

Just from going between different shoes, the most comfortable IMO are always Air Max's.. I don't like to pay the premium for the huge air bubbles, hate the fact they pop and let water in, but they're comfortable as shit. All I know is I would not hoop in lows :lol Rolled my ankles way too many times already

Ya been rocking either mids or highs forever but now I'm cool with trying to fuck around and have fun in some lows too. Switched shoes a few times, but comfort, cushion (just wow), and even style wise, these were my favorite pair of bball shoes ever to play in. Been trying lighter models, but this was my shit back in the day.
