Barkley considers hopping on Mavs bandwagon (http://espn.go.com/blog/dallasmavericks/post/_/id/4666931/barkley-considers-hopping-on-mavs-bandwagon?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter)
By Tim MacMahon
Noted Mavs critic Charles Barkley is almost ready to jump on the bandwagon.
A team that was like a “pretty girl with no brain” has earned Barkley’s respect after a trade that transformed the Mavs’ personality.
“The one thing they were missing was defense and toughness and rebounding,” Barkley said during a Monday appearance on ESPN 103.3’s Galloway and Company (http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?id=4977640&########=1&callsign=KESNFM), making a good point despite the sloppy math. “And they got all three of them with Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood. They’re bigger and they’re tougher. Also DeShawn Stevenson. I like his game. He’s a little crazy. I think every team should have a crazy guy who’s like a wild card.
“They could score with anybody. The key was defense and rebounding. They got all that with those three guys and they didn’t give up anybody.”
Barkley has always been a huge fan of Jason Kidd, whom he calls the best leader the NBA has seen since Magic Johnson. But he didn’t believe the Mavs had a chance to beat the Los Angeles Lakers or Denver Nuggets until after the seven-player blockbuster deal went down over the All-Star break.
According to Barkley, the Mavs now have three players (Butler, Stevenson, Shawn Marion) who have a chance to slow down Kobe Bryant or Carmelo Anthony. If Haywood and/or Dampier are healthy, the Mavs have a solid last line of defense.
Suddenly, a squad Barkley had considered “a little girly team” looks like legitimate contenders.

I don't want Charles Barkely on our bandwagon, tbh. He'd be more of an ugly duckling mav fan than mavsfan1000

Isn't Barkley the kiss of death for most teams?
Well look at the Spurs 4 championships. He's been on their bandwagon for a long time.

son in case you forgot, my team is the New Orleans Hornets (and the Silver Stars too) ... but the Hornets are a team that has never accomplished anything. but unlike Dallas fans, we don't have a sense of entitlement as if we are owed a championship. hmm, I just said the Hornets organization hasn't ever accomplished anything ... that sounds an awful lot like the Dallas Mavericks as well. god bless

Hornets78, the only reason Mavs fans around here are a bit hostile towards the Hornets it's because of the wonderful trolling of BRHornet45, son!
I don't think there is any lingering effect from the 08 playoffs, you were the better team, and it was quite simple to accept it.

Sons, another similarity between mavs/hornets is choicking: Hornets choke game 7 on their home floor(lol janero motherfucking pargo). Mavs choke a 2-0 lead against the heat, then choke a series to the 8th seed. with that being said sons, mavs are a damn good team right now.

son ghazi also jumps on and off bandwagons more than anyone I have ever seen. he use to be a LSU football fan back whenever they won 2 national championships in 5 years, then last year he became a Bama fan. how does that happen?

I would probably have to pick L.A. though just to see the mexicans and blacks tear the city up after the game.

Mavericks look like they are for real this year...but still 2006 is in their rear view mirror. Go down again and they will certainly earn the NBA moniker "Choke City".
