View Full Version : Stackhouse calls out Richard Jefferson

“I just don’t think he’s as good as everybody talked him up to be, to me,” said Stackhouse. “I mean, I think he has some talent, he’s an athlete but a lot of the best basketball we’ve seen from Richard Jefferson came when he played with Jason Kidd, when he was just pretty much spoon-fed at the basket and was able to run out and just be an athlete. When it comes down to a half-court set and just being able to play half-court basketball I don’t think he’s that special of a player, in my opinion. It’s just one of those things where it’s just not a good fit. It wasn’t a great fit for him in Milwaukee when he was here. He had some big games but really nothing special. He wasn’t a guy that really helped them go to another level as far as wins and losses. And I think they’re finding out in San Antonio that he may not be the right fit for what they want to do. If I know Popovich like I know him I could very easily see him not in a San Antonio uniform next year.”

Stackhouse has been ballin on the hottest team in the East ever since he suited back up.... he's still got some game left.

And he's right. (about it not being a good fit from the start, and being an overrated player, not on RJ not being here next year.)

Regardless of what Stackhouse thinks, I can give you 15 million reasons why RJ will be in a spurs uniform next year.

Stackhouse's career is overrated.

I remember when Stackhouse was coming out of college he was so hyped.... the next MJ outta UNC.

His rookie year was the year we had the All-Star game here, I remember trying to get all the Stackhouse rookies I could off those card distributors at the Jam Session. lol

Jefferson ain't leaving SA until his contract expires IMHO.

because his contract is exactly the type of putrescent stock no team would consider adopting.

Truth.

03-12-2010, 06:55 PM
This is why RJ should be focused on defense and outside shooting when he's in with the starters. When he's in with the scrubs, he can shine as a scoring threat on fast breaks.

He needs to be two different types of player.

T-Mac got traded. Houston owned that trade, too.

If Stackhouse said this in the summer, then he's really smart. If he said it any time in the last three months, then, well, duh.

Well, he is right. But I don't like that he went out and said this to the press like this. If this article was about something else, and then mentioning some things about Jefferson aside, ok, I can get that. But this whole article is just about that and just made to shit on jefferson. I mean, come on.

I don't get why people think RJ will play out his contract next year. The FO can look to convert that contract into assets next year without a doubt. Draft picks and multi year players (hopefully younger ones) could be had if the Spurs want to start truly going young. Other NBA teams are cash strapped and may want to get out of longer contracts. Dallas (I hate to say) was able to get better in this way with Howard this year. Their core players are a bit older than the Spurs now strangely enough.

If the FO wanted to get bold, they also have Parker at $11MM or $12MM next year with an expiring contract (I think). Although SA may want to extend Tony. He's still young enough to produce for four or five years.

I really hope they don't shop TP. We'll never get equal value, he's still young, and as I've said before he's much, much more of a team player than some on this board admit.

Crackhouse is just chiming in. Re: Tony, I agree we keep him (and Manu) if possible. These two are not untradable (Tim, David, and should have been Gervin ) but if the contracts are anywhere close to reasonable they should be kept on. Now if we get idiot great offers, well, that would have to be considered.

I think Stackhouse is one of the biggest assholes in the NBA.. remember him using Manu's head to get off the floor?!

Anyway, he has a point, RJ is an athlete that needs ball movement and open space to operate, that's just his game. He obviously "excels" in the open court and when the game is a little bit loose. Unfortunately the Spurs don't play that way most of the time, hence the suckage. I don't think he's going to be very effective in the playoffs, when the game is much tighter. I hope I'm wrong.

Stack needs to do more calling out of RJ, because he was great last night! If that is what it takes to get Jefferson going, Stackhouse should be commentating for the rest of the Spurs games...

I can't argue with anything he said, I just don't know if HE should be the one saying it.

Has he finally retired and taken a job on NBATV or something?

If only it was summer 2006 and we could be reading "If i know Holt like i know him I could very easily not see Popavich on the bench next year." :lol

btw any good coach could have rolled the Spurs to the title in 2006 and 2007, so shut your pieholes you 2007 squakers.

It's taken him all year, but Jefferson is starting to look like he belongs on this team. His confidence has improved greatly and his teammates are giving him more support. He is still inconsistent, but with much less frequency and, at times, he shows flashes of solid play making ability. If this progress continues, he could turn into a monster in the playoffs. I hope he proves everybody wrong and turns into the player we need him to be. Let's face it, for better or worse, we are stuck with this guy and I would rather have Jefferson's potential in the playoffs over what we had last year.
Oh, yeah . . . fuck Jerry Stackhouse.
