This could be bad. It sounds like Rahm Emmanuel and Jim Messina could be involved. Sestak's on-air saying that this happened and that it was quid pro quo. While Michael Steele and John Boehner must be frothing over this, Darrell Issa is doing his job. There's no way you let someone go on National Television and say this and not investigate, unless it is completely baseless. I am only hearing about this tonight, but this Politco story was written on 3.10.2010. Politically speaking, this is breaking in an election year and I doubt we'll get through this scandal without hearing Tom Blagovich's name and Eric Massa's assertions in reference to a "where there's smoke, there's fire" story.
lol, nothing will come of this. Non-News. Yawn.

all ethics aren't necessarily law, who says anybody is going to be in jail.
Anything can happen. You could do something unethical yet legal. mark foley didn't break any laws did he? yet he was asked to step down.
This is politics, you don't have to break the law to lose your job.

I'd say, in this case, it's "necessarily law."

so basically this means that anyone who is employed with the fedral govt cannot offer anyone anyone a job in the exchnage for a vote. if anyone was stupid enough to do this then they deserve to lose thier job. while against the law, does this require an inquisition?

As much as you fantasize about me, you should know that I actually want answers to the questions I ask. You wouldn't know that because you run away and never answer them.
Now we get to the point of whether any accusation can be proved.

lol, nothing will come of this. Non-News. Yawn.Exactly. I wouldn't even doubt that this or any administration would do something like this -- it's just that the burden of proof would be such that getting a conviction would be nearly impossible.
Furthermore, no one outside the blogosphere would care.

I think Dick Cheney and George W. Bush should be in prison for mis-using military force, killing Americans and Iraqis by the thousands, and lying before Congress in the lead-up and making the decision to go to war in Iraq. Yes, Yoni isn't the most unbiased person, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Should we stall this investigation because the previous Administration was worse? How about about we debate the merits of this, comment on the merits of it, and not say "it's not so bad, and you were against it when it was your guy!"

They have a member of the President's party going on National Television telling them that it happened, he stated it, he stands by it, and if you listen to him, he pivots to whatever the issue he wants to talk about afterwards, dismissing it as politics as usual. This isn't Eric Massa--this is someone defending this Administration. That's very damning.

It's bribery and this is the problem with running a national strategy as the morally-superior party. We screw up and resign. They screw up and stall and deny and parce and obfuscate until the drum-beat dies down. Who cares if they are hated after that? I hate George W. Bush to this day. He still finished out his full two-terms as President.
This isn't just about the bribery act itself; IMO.
It could also rumple some Senator's feathers; this is Executive attempting to (illegally) affect a race in the legislative - separation of powers could rile up someone like Byrd, IMO.

Exactly what wasn't investigated, between 2001-2008, by Congress, special prosecutors, District Attorneys...etc?
And, what resulted from those investigations; aside from Scooter Libby getting convicted of perjury over a scandal that wasn't.
