Kids got great potential.
Let Chip work with him on his shot, but I love his nose for the ball and how he can run an offense no question.

He looked real nervous in his first game tonight (especially on that 1st FT did you see his hands shake? LOL) but he definitely has great defensive instincts. 2 blocks I saw, a kick ball, several hustle plays and a little court vision too.

other than a couple of bad passes, he has fit in perfectly, he plays defense, doesn't seemed lost out there running the offense, and plays defense, what is there not to like about this kid.

Why even bring that up? Guys like Manu and TP make bad passes here or there all the time. This new kid only had about one or two, and I'm pretty sure one was because Blair was looking to make a move before he caught the ball.

Well....in my opinion
Bogans blows donkey dik, Splitter will be a monumental flop in the nba and should stay in Europe, and Jackson is still relatively unknown at this point but has shown promise.
Spurs would be wise to resign Roger Mason to help spark the bench players. Especially considering his value is down right now due to his recent shooting woes where he has been upset about his role/minutes on the team. I'm not against Bonner being resigned but Pop still needs to find and develop a good 7 foot defender (I think Ian can fill this role very well).

I think there's a good chance he will if he knows what his role is going to be with the team going forward. He'll resign for another 2year/5m type deal and be worth every penny to come off the bench for 20-25 minutes a game.

Maybe we can sign and trade him, but that's wishful thinking with the salary cap's going down.

Speedy Jackson :p:
- I like him. Showed flashes of 07 Vaughn level-headedness plus very good individual/pick-roll d, rebounds and drawing fouls.
You can see some of the Mike Brown effect on the kid, and no question getting the thumbs up from brown doesn't hurt pop's decision to continue playing him.

Mason is not re-signing. Why would he?
Jackson has looked good in his first couple of games. If he can continue to defend consistently and make good decisions with the ball then signing him as the third point is basically a no brainer. He is the type of cheap role player the Spurs will continue to seek out for next year's roster.

The kid plays his ass off in whatever limited minutes hes been given. It would be smart to sign him the rest of the year so next season we have a legit backup point, but he was signed too late to be on a playoff roster right? Not that I think hes earned a PO roster spot but we really dont have a true back up point.

We'll see what shakes up this off season. I think if the spurs make a playoff push Roger will be a big part of that as the team's best sniper off the bench.
Him and Hairston make an awesome sniper/slasher (inside/out) duo off the bench IMO.

If Roger can be consistent, then he would be a great alternative to Hairston, but he is not. He is streaky. On the other hand, if the opponent sleeps for a second, Malik is going to the rack. We need that kind of pressure in our offense.
So I guess I would rather not gamble on Mason anymore over Hairston. If Malik starts to falter then Mason is your back up this year.
At any rate, Pop seems to have found a few more weapons/combinations in the this team that can be used effectively. The team is getting a good feel to it.

Roger has been consistent this year when Pop has kept his role and minutes consistent. Which has been roughly 1/4 of the year i would say.
And I don't see a reason why they both can't play together off the bench, which would effectively make centerpiece the odd man out of the rotation.

How much longer does Jackson have with the team?
Bruno
03-20-2010, 07:19 AM
So Spurs have decided not to re-sign Jackson to another 10 days contract. It isn't a surprise given that he was inactive for the last couple of games. He wasn't that bad but I guess it wasn't enough.
Another reason behind that move could be that Spurs are higher on Temple. We will see what will happen at the end of his 10 days contract.

03-20-2010, 08:16 AM
Too bad about Jackson. It felt reassuring having a true PG handling the ball, even if he wasn't that familiar with the Spurs' system. Maybe if he had a better jumpshot and had 3-point range, who knows? Anyway, as long as Manu keeps up his playmaking, things should be fine.

03-20-2010, 09:35 AM
I think this kid Temple is a better fit, he also seems to handle the ball well, and he made some terrific passes he is quick and long, and a good defender who can will get better but these D-leaguers are not going to be part of any rotation come playoff time. We'll be lucky to see Ian in the playoffs, Hairston is making a case for himself, but knowing Pop, he will probably go with Mason over Hairston again once the playoffs come around and Tony returns.

he couldn't buy a bucket early in the season and played shitty defense. is that supposed to earn him minutes?

He can't shoot the 3 (yet). Ok, neither can Tony (I know though there is no comparison). For a backup, we need another ball handler, not another spot up shooter. If we needed those why did Pop stop playing Findog?
Of course, we probably let him go because he hustled his azz off and can likely produce turnovers :rolleyes because no team, especially the Spurs, that produce sooo many turnovers from the other team (sigh) needs that from their role players.
Especially these Spurs, who have demonstrated tremendous heart in their blowout losses to the same teams they will face in the playoffs :bang

03-20-2010, 03:31 PM
I would say the opposite is probably true. I think if Pop isn't playing him in garbage time is because he doesn't want to showcase Cedric at all to the rest of the league. Probably get him into the SL over the offseason, and then if he holds up sign him as insurance at the PG spot.
He has shown good quickness and good passing ability. More of a true PG then what we have now. I think it would be of use to us when Ginobili isn't on the floor. Be nice to always have a passer/catalyst on the floor.
This is in the most optimistic view ofcourse. I could be completely wrong and he lets Cedric showcase himself to the rest of the league and then lets his 10-day expire.
I'm just saying it's more likely the Pop is evaluating him in practice and behind closed doors more so then just in an actual game. We all know how CIA pop works. Pop will never show his hand. If he likes the kid he will tell Cedric his interests and let the kid go, and then pick him up in the off-season.
