Boykins would fit in w/the spurs perfectly as a backup. He's like 2wice as fast as parker and can score. He definitely doesn't fit in w/denver.
He's like a little squirrel out there

Boykins is a ball hogging shooter...Pop would have his little squirrelly ass planted on the pine before Thanksgiving. He's too short to make the inlet pass on 4 down...:lol

I don't want Earl Baggins (<<<stolen from a nuggets fan) in a spurs uniform. I agree he is a ball hog.

Duh, we need a shooter in the team. + a decent backup pg. Why do you think we get those ridiculous 0-17,0-9,etc. Nobody in this team can shoot a j

ever play the game? Basketball is a game of runs and sometimes you get good shots and still miss them. Shit happens. as Foofida pointed out Boykins is a huge defensive liability...and is sooo NOT a Spurs style basketball player it's not even funny...he looks good on a loosey goosey fast break style team but put him on a structured offense/defense style team like the Spurs and IMHO he would be awful...the guy NEVER looks to see if someone else is open for a clean uncontested shot...Pop would either kill him or kill the "it's me against them" scoring style that you obviously like...
You want to pick a Denver player to fit in with the Spurs? How about Marcus Camby?
Boykins has learned how to shoot over bigger players by falling back and aiming high. He's good at it, and it's not easy to do. But it's a lot easier to make points that way than to get assists that way. There's no goal-tending rule for passes.

:rolleyes would I like the Spurs if I liked that "scoring style"?
The spurs have an obvious problem when it comes to jump shooters, they don't have one. And about fitting it, look at Big Dog and how he's fitting in, and everyone said he was a shoot-first guy.

Denver does a lot of one-on-one, screen-and-roll, and isolation. Boykins works in that scheme.
He would not work in the motion offense.
He's not a great jump shooter -- a lot of his stuff was in the lane, and he was just on fire tonight. He's like Tony Parker shrunk down to 3/4 scale, with less skill. I prefer having a pure PG off the bench as a change of pace.

IMHO I think we make Earl Boykins better than he is. Our guys rarely leave their feet to foul shooters, but for some reason they choose to do it against Boykins (Barry and Parker in particular; Beno actually played him well last night). When you have a massive height advantage, you don't need to jump to alter shots. If our guards would stay in front of him and stick their hands straight up, Boykins wouldn't have such an easy time getting to the line.

Earl is not a mini-jordan, although he thinks he is.
He's a mini-marbury.
At any game he plays, he's the most likely on the floor, to have a great stat line while killing his team in the process... It's not the shots he makes, but the ones he loses on the break against 2 defenders, and 2 teamates running the floor hard in the wings... He time and again will do his pull up j with no one in position to rebound...
Earl is a shoot-first, a shoot-second, a shoot-third, a pound-the-ball-for-22-secs-shoot-fourth and then a hey-I-passed-to-you-and-you-scored-without-passing-it-back-to-me-so-I-could-shoot-fifth PG...
Please take him...

I am happy with Beno.
he will be even better next year after another offseason playing Spurs bball and learning all the defensive schemes.
He seems to be pretty fearless with both his driving and his taking bag shots.
I think he is a keeper as TP's backup. Kind of in the mold of Bobby Jackson to Bibby, where both can play and both play well.

"When you have a massive height advantage, you don't need to jump to alter shots"
Not quite so simple. Earl is so quick that as long as he's got his dribble you have to lay back off him to keep him in front. And then he's very quick to pull up and shoot, so the backed-off defender needs to jump at him to get a hand up.

And don't forget that when you are a foot taller than him then psychologically you just THINK you can block the shot if you give it that extra effort/jump...and as someone pointed out he has mastered a shooting style of falling back and then shooting an extremely high arc...

If you guys remembered and played close attention, Pop tried to sign this guy in the offseason before drafting Beno. He wanted him.

He played well last night. I was quite impressed. But, the Nuggets can keep their midget along with the rest of their circus freaks.
