I keep hearing people talking about 5'5" Earl Boykins fantastic 30-point effort last night. I also keep hearing people on the Ticket Radio (Vex and Walter and caller(s) ) saying things like..."why don't they just punch him" or "why don't they just knock him down?" or "Boykins just irritates me the way he plays."

Isn't that what opposing fans say about Manu Ginobili? Understand and appreciate. Don't be a hypocrite and bag on others who want to "punish" Manu or knock him down if you, in the same breath, want to just smack-down that little munchkin Boykins.

Screw Vex and Walter, it's all about the Thompson Brothers. Allas Boykins dosen't bother me a bit I love when he has the ball, as he has a habit of holding on to it too long, thus he dosen't get his teammates involved. Following that he has a bad tendency to rush shots, again punishing his own team, but I must say he is fun to watch. As for knocking him down, I believe he will just get right back up just like Gino, and you gots to respect that.

I can't believe anyone, even when he's on the opposing team, couldn't appreciate Earl Boykins. I love watching him play... his speed can completely change the game, he's basically unguardable from the standpoint of breaking down your defense and finding someone with an open shot. Or finding a shot for himself.

It's funny when you go to the Nuggets message board Boykin's is about as popular there as clap.

I've already said basically the same thing to posters in here calling for knocking him down...cheap shots suck. Play the game.

Boykins is a nice offensive player, but he is, and can be exploited on D. Timmy fouls out, and Parker goes for 11 in a flash when Pop revolves the system to him. As much as teams can't guard Boykins, he can't guard them, either.

I love watching him play, as long as it's for another team.

I agree with what everyone has already said about Boykins' individual success = his team standing around. He can win an occasional game by himself, but long-term he's going to lose a lot more.

He is damn sure fun to watch in a one on one open floor matchup but he is a team offense killer with awful shot selection...it looks like the only shot he is looking for is his...

Boykins is an excellent sixth man to have. If he is hot he is a real factor. If he is not hot from the field he is not even really all that positive out there on the floor. His pressure defense was solid at times, but in the half court set, over time he is certainly a liability on defense.

But as a sixth man, he is very good. Especially for an uptempo team like Denver who can afford to let him take over on offense from time to time.

He was a pest last night.

Boykins is a hell of a player. His performance last night was fun to watch. It wouldn't have been as much fun for me, personally, if the Spurs had lost - but I enjoy watching someone play good basketball. I can't imagine being 5'5" and playing ball with all those giants. (You notice that the players that are really fearless don't have to pound their chests to prove it?)

I didn't hear the comments, and I don't have a word-for-word transcript, so I can't really comment about what they did or did not say. But hypocritical I am not. If they seriously suggested punching Boykins, the comments would be just as moronic as some that the writers and announcers have made. Fortunately, the players don't take their instructions from talk radio jocks. They do take instructions from their coaches. And I would be willing to bet that George Karl specifically told his players to put a shot on Ginobili that he would think about next time he drove to the hole. They may have carried it a bit further than Karl intended - but I didn't hear him condemn the hit(s), or even acknowledge that they might have been a little excessive.

I would be just as quick to trash Vex and/or Walter for that kind of comment. I would also remind them that, before you can knock Boykins down, you have to catch him.

His defense on Beno bringing the ball up the floor sure is a nightmare for the Spurs though. He could be a specialist with 3 seconds left on the game clock. Spurs can't touch him then. That said I wouldn't want him.

Speaking of Denver fans...Vex just said he got a beer thrown on him in game 3 and had the guy ejected? Jesus Christ I didn't know we were playing in the twin city to Detroit. What a bunch of idiots.

I know Vex was being light-hearted about this to some degree, so he and Walt are cool but they and others just need to not go overboard and be hypocritical.

Got to admire a guy 5'5" playing in the NBA. Nothing short (no pun intended) of amazing.

You must of heard it wrong... all I heard from these two today was how much respect they have for this guy. Some even wish he could be a Spur -- Don Harris gave him major props as did Wally and Jeff.

And talk about smack down -- there was a sign by some Nugget fan that read : "Ginobili must be punished" -- PUNISHED???? for what... driving the lane... heck your 3 thugs should be ones that ought to be punished.

Go back to Denver...

Spurs Biggest Fan - I heard that segment when Don Harris came in and you are correct, they did praise Boykins. This was a welcome departure from their comments at the top of the show.

He's cute. . . all running around all tiny and everything. Shooting jump shots, hitting runners. When he lined up against Timmy that was just precious!

I just wanted to pick him up and hug him and squeeze the stuffing out of that little fella!

It's like playing ball with your 7 year old nephew who has skills. It would piss me off to no end that he can even get a shot off.

You got to respect Boykins if you know bball.

well its absolutely okay to say "why doesn't massenburg just elbow carmello right in his stupid face" but only for the sake of making him look like a little punk on live national television

not for the sake of taking him out of the series....cuz bruce bowen's already done that for us :D

I have a lot of respect for Boykins...getting that much playing time on a play-off team as a guy who is 5'5" ...amazing!
