His back problem is worse than thought (bulging disks), and could be a serious/lengthy injury:

If Robin making a return at all this season is a risk then shelf him. Not worth it to try and make a return just so the Suns can win a playoff series.

I'd assume it's lower back. And that injury never really goes away. He might still be a good player in the future, but that's very likely going to be a lingering and recurring injury the rest of his career. Sucks.

Well if there's one thing the Suns know how to do it's take care of injuries. Hopefully their training staff can deal with this as well as they've dealt with Nash's back injury.

Yeah, that's true. Having the right medical staff to give him every opportunity to make the best recovery possible is extremely important. The Suns are among the best in that regard. Good luck to him. I just know lower back injuries are a fucking bitch to deal with, and once you have them, you got them the rest of your life.

If it's that important to you to make sure they're regarded that way, ok.

You can even make a trophy for the medical staff if you'd like.

Rest, rehab on tap for Suns’ injured Lopez (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-suns-lopez&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Phoenix Suns center Robin Lopez will treat his back injury with rest, medication and rehabilitation following a visit to a specialist on Sunday.

The treatment was prescribed by Dr. Christopher Huston of The Orthopedic Clinic Association after an MRI showed Lopez had a bulging disk. According to a statement released by the Suns, Lopez will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The 7-foot, second-year pro from Stanford has been a significant contributor since being added to the starting lineup. Phoenix had won six in a row and 20 of 25 going into Sunday’s game at Minnesota.

Just shut him down for the rest of the season. Ralph Sampson coming back early from a back injury in his 2nd season is what ultimately derailed his career. Lopez isn't Ralph Sampson but don't make that mistake.

JMarkJohns

I agree... shut him down. He's proving way too valuable for the future to risk for right now.

DUNCANownsKOBE2

I hope this means Jarron Collins gets the minutes he deserves. Alvan "I'm overrated" Gentry has a love affair with Frye and is probably creaming at the chance to give him 40+ minutes.

If the FO thinks shutting Lopez down is gonna cost them regular season victories then they they'll rehab him and he'll play.

The Arizona Republic said bulging disks. Now Suns.com says it's a herniated disk, which is more serious.

"Suns center Robin Lopez did not travel with the team to Minnesota on Saturday after an MRI on his back revealed an acute lumbar disc herniation."

A real shame, I've enjoyed watching the Suns since the All-Star break. All the best to him.

With Amare beasting the way he has been and their improved defense, they definitely had a shot.

DUNCANownsKOBE2
03-29-2010, 10:52 AM
The improved defense was largely because they were playing Lopez at center and trashed that small ball garbage. With lopez out Frye is now the center and the defense goes back to being shitty.

OK seriously, at this point just get the guy surgery and rehab for next season. It'd be moronic to even attempt to bring him back this year. Cool, the injury derails any chance they had at a 2nd round birth. I'll take that over him playing through it and getting an injury that derails their chance at a title 5 years down the road.

Ponytail douche and Channing "I have a girl's name because I play like a girl" Frye probably pick up the majority of Lopez's minutes. I like the interior defense Collins has played this year when in but he doesn't fit in well with the starters at all.

Ponytail douche should be starting alongside Amare, with Lopez out. Frye is an effective bench player, and doesn't have the rebounding skills to make it in a starting lineup.

I think Ponytail douche has earned the right to play big minutes for us while RoLo rehabs.

Ponytail is like a mini-version of Lopez. He blocks, rebounds, and defends pretty well, but he's nowhere near as effective at boxing out for his teammates, and bigger players can muscle him inside.

Ponytail wouldn't be able to guard a guy like Tim Duncan, or Al Jefferson, for example.

I know. But he battles and if you are looking at easing the blow with regards to style, PTD is a better fit to start with Lopez out.

I agree. Collins is a true scrub. You CANNOT put Nash,Amare & Frye on the floor together for too long....and obviously Nash/Amare are going to start so...there it is.

Collins sucks,Frye is a reserve, so start Lou at the 5.
