What it is funny is that this stretch w/o parker has confirmed that Hill is a SG, the PG of this team is Manu.

One thing I've noticed is sometimes Hill passes lack of force especially when he wants to feed a guy for a 3 ! the open guy collects a ball with no rythme

Nobody on the Spurs whips a pass faster than Manu. I've noticed that both
Hill & Mason have some loft in their passes out to the 3. With Mason, it's also on pick and rolls, and also pick and pops.

When TP comes back, his passes are more a push type as opposed to a throw. He has some zip too, but again, nobody whips a pass faster than Manu. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN! :greedy

At least two times the open 3 guy haven't had the time to shoot because the pass was two weak I think it was Bogans and Bonner. The ball coming from Hill was too soft and D had time to cover them. Hill has to work that with TP and Manu.

In a way he can control that, by limiting his fucking minutes (which was a no brainer in this one), you lessen the chance for something like that to occur.

This guy isn't some young, athletic 20 something that can run all day. He's got to be managed. I understand the Spurs need wins and he's carrying them so he's going to play more obviously, but tonight he could have easily been kept right around 30 minutes, instead he's up around 36.

Figured @ATL, @OKC, LAL, CLE, @BOS was probably going to be under .500 and quite likely a 1-fer or an 0-fer. To get 3 of those and 2 of the last three without Parker is certainly encouraging; they're pretty close to have gotten 4 of the 5. The way they crapped the bed in the 2nd half of the LA game still makes me think the ceiling is pretty low, but they are now at least in the running to get back to 50 wins and to stay out of the 8 spot.

If Ginobili is laboring tomorrow and this team is struggling with the Nets, remember my words.

That being said, the latest best win of the season. Outstanding defense and the thing I like most is the confidence. I have not seen this type of confidence from the Spurs against good-elite teams in over two years. It sounds corny, but they look like they believe (with the exception of when they play the Lakers).

Okay got ya, Pop controls injuries. Look with the way Manu plays you would have to only play him 5 minutes in the 1st quarter, none in the 2nd or 3rd and only 5 more in the 4th. That is not happening.

I'm surprised by the score and how easily the Spurs controlled the game, but not surprised that they won. They're better than the Celtics now. It's funny how quickly things change in sports. Earlier this season, the Spurs weren't in the same league as the Celtics, now they're better than them.

If the Spurs can just somehow get through these final ten games without wearing down Ginobili, Duncan and to a lesser extent, Hill and Parker isn't too rusty when the playoffs start, then this team will be poised to make some noise.

They'll probably be no picture of the Spurs on the front page, instead it'll be all about the Celtics laying an egg after looking recently like they had turned the corner. It'll be about what's wrong with them, instead of what's right with the Spurs. ESPN has no interest in writing about the Spurs unless they can drudge up their same old, tired story about how they're done.

So how's this going to play out when Parker comes back and he needs the ball in his hands? Clearly the Spurs work best with Ginobili handling the ball and making all the decisions, but doing that makes Parker useless.

Parker off the bench for Manu, with Hill guarding the 2? Just postulating.

No, the Spurs work best when the two of them are in game shape/rhythm and are able to handle the ball handling/play making duties in tandem. If ever they could both get fully healthy again, then with Hill as the third guard this will quickly become easily the best back court in the league.

That was a dagger. With our 16 point lead down to only eleven, manu was inserted in the final 1:09 of the 2nd quarter. On his penetration, he assisted on hill's corner 3 pointer. On the next play, he ran the floor, looked at the shot clock, then banked in a 3-pointer as the shot clock goes off. Lead back to a comfortable 17.

They won't have the strongest individual best players at their positions, but collectively, the Spurs back court is probably the best.

Best at their position
Bryant-SG
Nash-PG
Probably JR Smith or Jason Terry or Leandrinho Barbosa-3rd Guard

Ginobili’s 28 points lead Spurs past Celtics (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010032802&prov=ap)
By Jimmy Golen

The San Antonio Spurs are in the thick of the playoff race again after getting back one of the key players from their championship teams.

He was sitting on their bench the whole time.

Making his 12th straight start since Tony Parker went out with a broken right hand, Manu Ginobili scored 28 points and added seven assists to lead San Antonio to a 94-73 victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday night and help the Spurs jump from a precarious eighth place in the Western Conference into a tie for sixth.

“Manu’s been playing great for the last month. He’s basically taken over the team,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “He’s been the same Manu we’ve had when we won championships. Without Tony, it’s really important for somebody to step up, and he’s done it.”

Richard Jefferson had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Tim Duncan had eight points and nine boards, and DeJuan Blair had 10 of his 11 rebounds in the fourth quarter. The Spurs, who started the season 4-6 and a month ago lost 11 of 18 games, have now won 12 of 16 to move into a three-way tie with Portland and Oklahoma City for sixth place in the West.

“We had a very, very slow start to the season, and we are paying for it now,” Ginobili said. “We should be five wins ahead of where we are.”

The Spurs have won back-to-back games against the Cavaliers and Celtics; their only losses in the last month were to Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers. They next go to New Jersey to play the nine-win Nets on Monday night.

“It’s not going to count unless we finish strong,” Ginobili said.

Paul Pierce scored 18 points and Kevin Garnett had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Boston, which had won six of its last seven—and seven of eight at home— to seemingly erase concerns that the 2008 NBA champions had aged too quickly. Instead, the Celtics posted their lowest point total of the season, their worst home loss of the year and their third loss by 20 or more since Feb. 25.

“This does not change our progress,” said Ray Allen, who scored seven points on 2-for-9 shooting. “You trip up a little here, but it doesn’t change the mission we’re on or the direction we’re heading.”

Ginobili was a starter when the Spurs won the 2005 NBA title, and for their ’03 and ’07 championships he was one of the league’s top reserves. He was coming off the bench this year until Parker broke his right hand on March 6; since replacing him, Ginobili has averaged 24 points per game.

He had 16 points at the half and eight more in the third quarter, when he hit a running, one-handed, 25-foot bank shot at the buzzer to give the Spurs a 77-60 lead.

“It was one of those nights we were awful,” Boston coach Doc Rivers said. “Ginobili dominated this game. He single-handedly was the will of the game.”

The Celtics trailed just 44-43 at midgame, but the Spurs scored the first 12 points of the second half and led by as many as 17 in the third quarter.

With seven minutes left in the game, the home crowd was booing the Celtics— an unusually common occurrence lately—and with five minutes left the building was mostly empty. Rivers emptied his bench with four minutes to play, and Popovich followed soon after.

The game got rough at times—at least for the Celtics.

Garnett hit the floor hard after Ginobili blocked his shot in the second quarter. The Celtics forward landed on his back, but he soon got up and held his fingers to his ears to encourage the crowd to cheer.

In the third, Pierce went to the floor after he was fouled driving the lane. He stayed down for a while before getting up and rubbing his right shoulder while wincing in pain.

He was able to shoot the free throws, but he missed the first, and a minute later he was on the bench talking to the medical staff again.

But he played a team-high 37 minutes and said afterward he was fine.

NOTES: It was Michael Finley’s first game against the Spurs since they released him on March 1, allowing him to sign with Boston. He was scoreless. … San Antonio’s next loss will tie its most in a season since going 53-29 in 1999-00, its worst season since drafting Duncan in 1997. … The Celtics and Spurs are now 38-38 in their all-time series, 19-19 in Boston. … San Antonio’s only losses in March were to Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers. … It was Garnett’s third consecutive double-double. … Rajon Rondo made a highlight-reel cut through Duncan and Matt Bonner in the first quarter for a layup.

George Hill's all around game really impressed me.

Big stage, big defensive assignment, big responsibility on the offensive end and shined in all areas.

The unsung hero of the night IMO.

Duncan to me looks like he's healthy but is just coasting.

Rasheed is and always will be a tough guard for Duncan do to his length.

Dyess played a solid game. Shot the most shots I've ever seen him shoot as a Spur within the offense. moved well, and was alert too.

I think the over handwringing on the part of Dyess is way overrated, I think he'll be fine.

Jefferson looks fantastic. Agressive, slicing through space very well, being an active defender. Earning his paycheck right now no question hope he keeps it up for another couple months :)

Lots of players stepped up and had a very good games. I like that DeJuan got extended minutes in the 4th quarter and was able to get going a bit and hustle his ass off and grab every board in sight.
