Spurs took the Nets for granted - and it seems Pop thought this was an automatic win. They played lackadaisical and let the Nets get confidence. Spurs have done this all season, and it's so frustrating! I don't want the Spurs to make history this way.

03-29-2010, 08:53 PM
Yeah, and you also think Manu deserves to play on a better team.

Maybe you deserve a worse team to be a fan of like say the Nets?

Why do the Blazers/Thunder "deserve" to go farther?

im not even gonna reply to your stupid homer ass.

Bogans and Dice played a combined 40 mins and had 1 point. Neither player would get more than 15 mins on any other playoff team.

You talk like we got blown out. We didn't need Parker or Manu to beat the Nets. Even with Tim's awful execution, the Spurs were leading most of the game. Pop, like usual, overthinks these games and ends up mismanaging the team into a loss.

Answer the question.

TD 21
03-29-2010, 09:23 PM
This loss falls on Duncan and to a lesser extent, Pop and McDyess.

Pop for being overly cautious with Ginobili and thinking the Spurs could win this game anyway. Instead of playing him for 15-18 minutes and having this most likely be a win, instead it turns into a costly loss and undoes the Celtics win.

Also for his not pulling Jefferson at the 2:55 timeout in the 3rd, resting him then and bringing him back to start the fourth with Hill taking a break. Instead, he pulled the only consistent sources of offense the Spurs had in this game at once with the game in the balance.

McDyess needs to be benched, Blair needs to play more and Bonner needs to shoot better. Right now, this front line is a disaster.

I have no idea why the Spurs didn't continue to go to Jefferson in the fourth. Instead they stood around and relied on Hill to be Ginobili, Parker, etc., which is obviously ridiculous.

Mason, when the team needed him most and he could have played significant minutes, sits with what amounts to an injury that's probably slightly more severe than a paper cut. That fucker Bryant can play with his entire body breaking down and yet on this team, when someone has the slightest injury, they're automatically out.

Pop played Hairston, Bogans and Temple together way too long..the 3 of those guys should never be on the floor at the same time..Hairston and Temple should never be on the floor together for obvious reasons, both too inexperienced..

The Spurs had a lineup without any key players for a long stretch in this game, that can't happen..

Yes, they would but not enough to lose to this year's Nets(one of the worst teams of all-time).

NFGIII
03-29-2010, 09:33 PM
This is absolutely pathetic! the Spurs deserve to lose this game. I watched it and most of the time I saw individuals looking for what they wanted to do. Rarely did I see a team concept. Without Manu or even to a certain extent TP this team does not have a leader. New Jersey!!!! Tim Duncan!!! Yes, I'm calling TD out for his lack of leadership. Unfortunately he won't/can't be more vocal because that isn't his makeup. This team just went through a very good run of 5 top teams ( admittedly with Manu though) only to lose to one of the worst in NBA history? If this up and down performaqnce continues then they don't have much of a chance to make the WCF much less get out of the first round.

Yes, I'm bitching but come on people what are we to expect from this team? Though I liked that many a bench player got to play but there wasn't much cohesion out on the court. Pop has n't a lot to deal with and with the PO in the near future this team needs to figure out what they need to do.

Nets get 10th win, avoid share of NBA’s worst mark (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010032917&prov=ap)
By Brian Mahoney

The roars of the crowd and the shouts from the public address announcer made it feel like this was a huge win.

For the New Jersey Nets, though, there wasn’t much celebrating. Just relief.

Relief at having removed their name from the line in the record book no team wants to be on.

The Nets notched their 10th victory Monday night, avoiding any chance of tying for the worst record in NBA history by beating the short-handed San Antonio Spurs 90-84.

“You don’t thank God, but you don’t want to go down as the worst team in the history of the game,” reserve guard Keyon Dooling said. “Absolutely it’s a relief, you don’t want to go down in history as the worst team ever.”

Brook Lopez had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Nets, who grabbed control with a 15-4 run late in the fourth quarter to improve to 10-64. The 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who went 9-73, will remain in the books as the league’s worst team.

Public address announcer Gary Sussman shouted “We got 10! The Nets win!” after New Jersey snapped a 14-game losing streak in the series, committing a franchise record-low four turnovers—none in the second half—in beating San Antonio for the first time since the 2003 NBA finals.

“It’s a big relief. It’s a big relief,” guard Courtney Lee said. “Now we can go out and ball and have fun and play.”

With Manu Ginobili (lower back spasms) joining Tony Parker on the injured list and Tim Duncan struggling through a poor shooting game, the Spurs had few answers on the second night of a back-to-back following an impressive victory at Boston on Sunday.

George Hill scored 19 points and former Net Richard Jefferson finished with 16 after a strong start for the Spurs, who fell out of a sixth-place tie in the Western Conference with Oklahoma City and Portland.

Jefferson said the talk of the Nets’ record was more on the minds of the media than the players.

“There’s no feelings for them or thoughts on it, it’s just kind of we’re all professional athletes,” he said. “They have enough talent over there to win some games, but you don’t really go into it thinking about it too much.”

New Jersey has been in danger of the worst record ever since opening the season with an NBA-record, 18-game losing streak. But the Nets have now won three of four, taking the pressure off the remainder of their schedule—while acknowledging that improving to 54 games under .500 isn’t exactly cause for a party.

“We don’t want to be a part of the worst team in history, so it’s exciting to get 10 wins, but it is 10 wins, you know what I mean?” point guard Devin Harris said. “It’s fun. We haven’t won that many games, so we are excited to win. We are continuing to move forward.

“We’re not going to jump through the roof because we won 10 games.”

They were helped Monday when Ginobili, the reigning Western Conference player of the week, had such trouble with his back that he had trouble putting his pants on in the morning. Then reserve Roger Mason Jr. was forced to sit out the second half with a sprained right pinky knuckle.

Duncan finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds but missed eight of his first 12 shots before finishing 6 of 15 from the field. San Antonio was just 11 of 20 from the foul line.

Lee scored 19 points and Harris had 17 points and nine assists for the Nets. Terrence Williams had 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.

The Nets tied it at 72 on Williams’ 3-pointer with 8:13 remaining, but Hill scored before setting up Matt Bonner’s 3 for a 77-72 lead with 6:12 left. New Jersey answered with eight in a row to regain the lead, and after a rare basket by Duncan, Lopez slammed down Harris’ alley-oop pass for an 82-79 edge with 3:27 to play.

A free throw by Lopez and a basket by Williams pushed it to 85-79, but San Antonio was back within three after Bonner’s 3-pointer with 34 seconds left. The Spurs got the ball back after Harris’ miss, but Duncan threw away a pass and the Nets closed it out from the foul line.

“We just didn’t have anybody who could score. If you are not scoring, you need to make free throws, which we didn’t, or at least you have to take care of the ball, which we didn’t,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “So bad from the free throw line, bad handling the ball and found nobody who could score.”

This appeared to be a tough week for New Jersey to get win No. 10, with San Antonio, Phoenix and New Orleans all coming to the Izod Center. But the Spurs who showed up Monday hardly looked like the team that was coming off victories over Cleveland and Boston.

“A team in a situation like that, you try to take them out of the game early and not make it a ballgame, and they have skilled ballplayers,” Duncan said. “Despite their record, they have a lot of guys who are very good, so we gave them the confidence to stay in it and they made the plays more than we did.”

Jefferson scored 10 points in the first quarter, when the Spurs shot 54 percent and opened a 33-27 lead. It was ugly from there, as the teams combined for 29 points with neither shooting above 35 percent in the second before San Antonio took a 46-43 lead into halftime.

Hill and DeJuan Blair each scored eight in the third—the rest of the Spurs managed only four—and San Antonio was up four heading to the final period.

NOTES: Ginobili said he was feeling better after treatment and expects to play in the next game. … Jefferson is third on the Nets’ career scoring list. … The Spurs signed swingman Alonzo Gee from Austin of the NBA Development League. He recently played 11 games for the Washington Wizards.

This lineup to start the fourth and Mason not playing because of a minor injury did the Spurs in. Pop was too dumb to realize that he couldn't afford to sit Jefferson and Hill at the same time and when he did, the game was lost.

Blair should have played more. He's the only big on this team who doesn't look dead legged and can actually finish around the rim.

Hairston is looking worse by the game. I know two of the three are fringe players, but how the fuck can Bogans, Hairston and be either in or on the fringe of the league and be this poor handling the ball? On top of that, they can't shoot. What an atrocity.

Too many players on this team making mistakes and looking nervous in crunch time. How many times this year have they thrown it away late because they're panicking? How hard is it to just hold the ball and/or call a timeout in this situation?

This loss falls on Duncan and to a lesser extent, Pop and McDyess.

Pop for being overly cautious with Ginobili and thinking the Spurs could win this game anyway. Instead of playing him for 15-18 minutes and having this most likely be a win, instead it turns into a costly loss and undoes the Celtics win.

:lmao

Last night you made about half a dozen posts bitching about how Manu was playing too many minutes and he was going to get hurt. And how the fuck does a loss "undo" a win?

I get my Pistons losing to the nets because they suck. What the hell happened to your spurs? Playoff teams don't lose to 9 win teams.

Don't tell me wagering doesn't play a part in NBA games. How many people actually bet on the Nets tonight prior to the announcement that Manu would not play? This is the only logical explanation for benching Manu tonight. To guarantee a New Jersey win.

If you disregard all of that however. Then it's a just a dumb, stupid move on the part of Pop. I have never, ever questioned Pop's reasoning as a coach until tonight. In light of the super-importance of the remaining games, why the fuck does Pop bench Manu tonight? Take away 24 points a game and it's no wonder the guys lost. And this loss had nothing to do with the play of Tim. I'm very angry tonight.

And what happened, genius? HE GOT HURT!

Because, if you consider the Cavs and to a lesser extent, Celtics wins as unexpected wins, then this was an unexpected loss (given the situation it wasn't, but if you had look at the schedule a few days ago it would have been), so it basically undoes one of those wins and takes away the positive vibes surrounding the team. In other words, this teams expected record coming out of this stretch is exactly where they are now, they didn't move up or gain any ground on anyone, because what good they did, they gave it all back with this loss.

So Pop should have played Manu 15-18 minutes tonight?

Why not? He was more than likely well enough to play, this was flat out Pop being an idiot. Last night, he should have been kept to 30-32 minutes given how the game played out and tonight, if he plays 15-20, the Spurs win this game.

Losing all that momentum and confidence is what bothers me the most. This game was an insult to the, literally, back breaking play by Manu of late. I think it will be hard to come back from this because so many weaknesses were exposed.

First time ever I go see them against the Nets and we lose.

10-2 run and 13-2 run in the 4th for the Nets....

That wouldn´t have happened with Manu (on the bench and playing sporadically).

That Manu injury is fake and we all know it. He didn´t even talk about it in the press nor in the facebook. Pop will try to say he was, but i bet you Manu won´t take any more nights off and won´t have any more "ghost" back spasms.

I just watched the game now on replay and I AM DISGUSTED.

This is inexcusable losing to the Nets.

PATHETIC TEAM, PATHETIC PLAYERS, PATHETIC COACH and PATHETIC PERFORMANCE.

No Manu = Can't even beat one of the two worst teams in the NBA.

Horrible performance by a lot of choking players the Spurs have.

My, my.....what a difference a day makes!!! Yesterday, it was all wine and roses and talk of Spurs possibly reaching the WCF....today, it's....
"they suck", "Fire Pop", "Trade Duncan" "Don't sign Ginobili"...wah....wah....wah!!!

Despite impressive wins this past week against OKC, Cleveland, Boston, the Spurs are who I thought they were: an 8th seed team. I'll admit I was getting caught up in the hype a bit but then you never know which Spurs team will show up from game to game.

Surprised-No, Disappointed-Yes Heck, I forgot this was a b2b for them.

Now we're looking up from the 8th spot......Spurs still have a chance to move up a spot or two if they can string some good wins together down the stretch.

Pop´s mistake was basically not having Manu available. Many here think Manu whould have played 15-20 mins.
I think 10 minutes at most would have do it. He would have just to enter the game for a couple of spurts where the team wnt stagnant on offense.
3 minutes in the second quarter, 3 to close the third, and 4 to close the fourth, that´s a win.
