Question: Do we limit it to white, American-born players or are Canadians and Germans eligible?

White Mavericks:

PG: Steve Nash
SG: Tim Legler
SF: Detlef Schrempf
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Bill Wennington

The Jazz ought to win this one by a mile

The Celtics are ridiculously good:

Cousy
Hondo
Bird
McHale
Walton

They'd sweep any other team. Five of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players.

I went for strictly All-American crackers.

All-Time White Cavaliers Team:

PG: Mark Price
SG: Craig Ehlo
SF: Dick Snyder
PF: "Gentle" Ben Poquette
C: Luke Witte

Other candidates include Jon Crotty, Scott Brooks, Kent Benson, Steve Kerr and Bob Sura.

My American Cracker Version:

PG: Brad Davis
SG: Tim Legler
SF: Keith Van Horn
PF: Raef LaFrentz
C: Shawn Bradley

Look at that long front line!

I think the All-Time Black starting Five would be a more interesting discussion, to be honest... I'm pretty sure the Celts have this one locked down.

Okay, Black Starting Five:

PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Michael Finley
SF: Mark Aguirre
PF: Roy Tarpley
C: James Donaldson

Celtics All-White big man rotation:

McHale/Cowens/Heinsohn
Walton/Macauley/Lovellete

Six HoFers.

All-Black:

Tiny Archibald/Johnson
Sam Jones/KC Jones
Pierce/JoJo
Russell/Garnett
Parish/Cornbread

The All-time white Spurs team would be frontrunners for the # 1 draft pick:

G: Steve Kerr
G: Brent Barry
F: Manu Ginobili
F: Dave Corzine
C: Billy Paultz

Warlord23

All-Black for the Spurs:

G Alvin Robertson
G George Gervin
F Sean Elliott
F Tim Duncan
C David Robinson

Tony Parker
Manu Ginobili

All-Time White Suns

- Starters -
Nash (18.8 ppg at peak)
Jeff Hornacek (20.1 ppg at peak)
Westphal (25.2 ppg at peak)
Chambers (27.2 ppg at peak)
Adams (19 ppg at peak)
- Bench -
Ainge (17.9 ppg at peak)
Majerle (17.1 ppg at peak)
Dick Van Arsdale (21.9 ppg at peak)
Louis Amundson

Majerle and Amundson are the only decent defenders of the bunch, and they are going to get slaughtered on the boards, but that team is putting up 135 per night, easy... Great shooters, unbelievable versatility across the board...

All-Time White Suns

Dick Van Arsdale (21.9 ppg at peak)

his identical twin Tom played for the Suns too, for one year they played together. It was bizarre watching those games (I was a Knicks fan then). Dick broke in with the Knicks but I don't remember why they traded him to the Suns.

on the Spurs, Duncan and Parker have black fathers and white mothers, so they should be able to go on all the lists, right?

(ps -- this is a totally bogus exercise -- basketball is basketball -- who cares about skin color)

PF: Malone
C: Eaton

Hmm, I might have to put some more thought into this:

PG: Steve Nash
SG:
SF: Detlef Schrempf
PF: Keith Van Horn
C: Dirk Nowitzki

Need to find a better SG candidate than Tim Legler. Sasha Danilovic?

G Brent Barry
G Manu Ginobili
F Mark Olberding
F Billy Paultz
C Swen Nater

Turkoglu would be the obvious choice for a SF if we're going to count his 1 season as enough to put him on an all-time team, but if that's allowed, then the Spurs all-time black team would be George Gervin/Dominique Wilkins/Tim Duncan/Moses Malone/David Robinson :lol

I think the claiming team should only be able to claim the player that team had and not the peak of the player when said player was on different team.

So the Suns are getting the Suns Ainge and not the Celtics Ainge, and the Celtics are getting the Celtics Walton (role player) and not the Blazers Walton (HOFer)...

This makes it way more interesting.

Suns are still kicking some serious ass as beyond Ainge's average listed above, all those career highs came as a Sun.

Agreed. If the Mavs want to claim Steve Nash, then they get All Star Steve Nash, not franchise player Steve Nash.

I think this is very interesting...

1. Celtics... Damn tough to beat this team.
2. Suns... Versatility and depth give them advantages over most.
3. Utah... Hurt by not having Chambers and Hornacek until after Suns peaks.
4. Dallas... Find a SG and your up there with Utah.

Not sure about Lakers. West and Goodrich is a great foundation, and if their frontcourt has skill, they could be #2.

not great but a good team inside passing and FT's would be great ...athleticism even for a "white" team would be lacking ...

If Davac's best years were as a Laker, then that's a solid frontcourt. It's a little light in scoring up front, but the passing is amazing. Rebounding and defense could be a problem.

i agree.
I stuck Vlade their because he made his only Finals appearance as a Laker BUT you could argue he belongs to Sacto as well ...

Rebounding would be ok against most normal title teams ....but against the Celtic or suns squads could be an issue but the lack of athleticism ESPECIALLY AT SF ...would be the biggest problem Celts have Bird though not a great athlete better one (much) than Rambis .

On top of it all, his All-Time Rockets is a pretty average team after Hakeem and Drexler (which was a shell of his HOF self with Houston), and he left off Moses Malone, Calvin Murphy, etc...
