The Spurs have to realize that they are going to try and foul out Timmy to make up for Howard. Someone else needs to set the pick.

Are the Magic immune to technical fouls or something??? They should have at least called one on them.

I was just thinking this exact thing. I think our best bet is to get the 7 seed, whether it be against Dallas or Utah. We avoid the lakers in the first round which gives Tony some time to get back into the game. And I think we stand a better chance against the Lakers before the WCF.

Given the choice I would rather play Utah... The Mavs are one huge matchup problem for us, and the one thing you can count on when its Spurs Vs Mavs: SMALL BALL.

No, Manu has only had a heavy load for the last 15 games or so. As long as he doesn't get injured he can ride this until June.

As for Tony, if he comes back I think he has to be the 6th man. The starters are humming right now, and every time TP has come in this year he's fucked the chemistry up. And he should only come back if he's at 90%+ health - a 75% healthy TP is a liability. Whether his ego will allow him to be a role player is the question.

I love TP, but he's been a negative for the team this year.

Matt Bonner actually had a great, great game. If he hadn't been able to fill the gap for Duncan in the first half, Spurs would've been run out of the building.

The Magic were noticeably trying to exploit Bonner's defense, but he did a good job of holding his own. He was also going bananas on the drives to the basket.

I'm not scared of Utah at all..they fold in the playoffs..this Spurs team is a lot different than the Spurs teams that lost to Utah earlier in the season..

4. Dallas..
5. LA..

plus we have been able to go to the wire against the Jazz in all 4 games. We can beat the Jazz, the Lakers have too much size against us.

Not without Bynum they don't. And it doesn't look like Bynum is going to be back and playing effectively any time soon.

But yeah, maybe the Mavs. I have a feeling the Jazz will beat us in a 7-gamer given that they swept us this year.

I think people are expecting too much of him - he still has plantar fasciitis to deal with, and it'll take him time to get his game legs back.

I really hope Pop just uses him as a quick-hitting 6th man (so that Bogans and Mason can eat pine) and doesn't try to hand the reigns over to him. The team is humming without him, don't screw that up!

Best thing I'm finding, regardless of what happens in the playoffs, is that I'm excited to watch these guys again. The last 10 games they have really come together as a team (the Nets was a b2b aberration). I expect absolutely nothing, but it is fun to watch.

I hope we face the Lakers in the first round. Either we're going to win the title this year or we're not, and the road to the :lobt2: goes through LA sooner or later. If we do get by the Lakers, we'll probably make the Finals.

Y'all think we can knock off the Cavs again??? :hat

It sucks this game wasn't televised in Austin. At least I got to see the end during a live look-in on NBATV...

Ginobili torches Magic for 43 points in Spurs’ win (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010040224)
By Paul J. Weber

Manu Ginobili will be a free agent this summer.

His price might be going up by the game.

Ginobili scored a season-high 43 points, his fourth 30-plus game since replacing Tony Parker in the starting lineup last month, and the San Antonio Spurs completed a weeklong sweep of the Eastern Conference’s three division leaders with a 112-100 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night.

“We put three different guys on him,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “Nobody could stop him.”

Tim Duncan had 23 points and the Spurs temporarily pulled themselves out of the last playoff seed in the West, where San Antonio is bunched up with Portland and Oklahoma City in a race to avoid the No. 8 spot.

Eighth means a likely first-round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, who San Antonio will get next Sunday. But the rejuvenated Spurs aren’t withering lately against the NBA’s best like they were earlier in this underachieving season.

Orlando was the third division leader the Spurs knocked off in the past seven days. It started with a home win over Cleveland, followed by a blowout in Boston.

The Spurs have yet to clinch a playoff berth, but with seven games left and a seven-game lead over Memphis, they inched closer.

“We couldn’t beat anybody the first 40, 50 games of the good (teams),” Ginobili said. “I’m very glad we started doing it. It’s better late than not doing it at all.”

Rashard Lewis and Mickael Pietrus had 18 apiece for the Magic, whose three-game winning streak ended in Texas one night after beating Dallas. Dwight Howard had 10 points and six rebounds, but hit just 2-of-11 free throws as the Spurs fouled him at every opportunity down the stretch.

Howard said he was frustrated by the Hack-a-Howard game plan.

“My mind wasn’t on the free throws. It was on the coach for the intentional fouls,” Howard said. “Really upset about that.”

Howard was 2 of 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. One fan behind the Magic bench who heckled Howard to “Work on your free throws!” was removed from the arena after Howard said he continued to shout as other Magic players told the man to calm down.

“Sometimes people can take it too far,” Howard said. “It’s a great thing to have fans come to the game, but once you attack somebody personally, guys sometimes take that serious, especially after a frustrating night.”

Howard’s night ended by fouling out with 3:06 remaining.

Fittingly, it was Ginobili who drew the foul.

He then stepped up and sank two of his 14 free throws, having missed just three on the night. When Ginobili hit his last two foul shots with 49 seconds remaining, a chant of “M-V-P!” swept through the AT&T Center.

For the Spurs? Without question.

It looked bleak for already-underachieving San Antonio when Parker broke his right hand March 6, but Ginobili has carried the Spurs to a 10-5 record without their starting point guard.

Matt Bonner added 15 points for the Spurs. Jameer Nelson and J.J. Redick had 15 apiece for Orlando.

The Spurs avenged a 26-point loss to Orlando on March 17 that was their worst of the season. Duncan had five points in that loss and was 1 for 10 from the field, the worst shooting percentage game of his career.

“Everybody in the league has frustrated nights,” Van Gundy said. “I saw Tim Duncan after 12 years have one of those frustrated nights against us in Orlando, so let’s not pretend it’s just Dwight. I saw one of the calmest guys in the league have a very frustrated night and do nothing but complain when he was in Orlando. It happens to everybody.”

Duncan took a seat early after being whistled for three fouls in the first 4 1/2 minutes of the game. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn’t last much longer.

Official Tony Brown ejected him just before halftime while Popovich—who picked up his first technical arguing Duncan’s early fouls—protested that Ginobili deserved a foul shot after being bumped by Howard on a jumper.

But Ginobili hardly needed help finding ways to score.

By midway through the third quarter, Ginobili already had nearly half of San Antonio’s 70 points. The Spurs call it “Manu being Manu”—drawing a foul on 3-pointers, pulling up for jumpers and recklessly barreling toward the basket.

Manu has been Manu a lot lately.

Since being thrust into the starting lineup 14 games ago, Ginobili is averaging 25 points—about 11 better than what he gave the Spurs each night before Parker’s injury.

Ginobili’s resurgence is likely benefiting him as much as the Spurs. The 32-year-old will be a free agent this summer and is proving he’s still one of the league’s most dynamic guards after injuries slowed him down the past couple years.

Ginobili was 13 of 25 from the field and hit three 3-pointers.

NOTES: Ginobili’s last 40-point game was Feb. 21, 2008, when he scored 44 in a win over Minnesota. … Popovich said before the game that Parker is still on track to return as early as the final week of the regular season.

isn't fouling when you're down 10 with less than a minute to go useless?

That kind of fouling brought Cleveland back into the game the last time we played them (they started earlier though)!

Well damn, sure would have liked to have seen this game and watch Manu drop 43. Thanks DirecTV schedule for not having it listed even though I could have sworn there was a game tonight but figured it must only be televised on NBA League Pass. :rolleyes

Anyone know if games shown on KENS 5 are repeated anywhere or available online free?

I think people are expecting too much of him - he still has plantar fasciitis to deal with, and it'll take him time to get his game legs back.

I really hope Pop just uses him as a quick-hitting 6th man (so that Bogans and Mason can eat pine) and doesn't try to hand the reigns over to him. The team is humming without him, don't screw that up!I agree with this strongly. Manu and George Hill are playing great, the offense is way more dynamic than it was even before TP's injury IMO, and it's hard to imagine TP won't be showing some rust whenever he comes back.

He exploded on the ref and got ejected

The ref's name was Tony Brown, and from what I've seen of his reffing (or lack there of) he probably got his job thanks to affirmative action.

Great win last night by the silver and black...I'm proud to say i spent my 22nd birthday watching Manu school the Magic for 43 pts, Pop get ejected, and the Spurs overcoming the damn refs for a huge W. It was great to be apart of that rowdy crowd last night, so to those of you who go to any games starting now and into the playoffs, keep it up! I can only go to so many games because i live 2 1/2 hours away in Del Rio, but to be apart of that game last night was awesome! I will try my hardest to get some playoff tix and be back for a playoff game!

Fuck, man, showing some fight against contending teams. Maybe we could reach the WCFs... whatever happens, this playoffs will be a rollercoaster ride because we don't have much consistency at either end, but when this team plays at its best it's as good as anyone in the West right now.

With the Fakers, Nuggets and Mavs all looking weak, the West is WIDE OPEN this year.

So now you think the Spurs have a chance again??? Flip flopper.:lol
