Can one of our French posters confirm that this blog accurately summarizes what Tony had to say?
Interviewed by the French radio RMC, Tony Parker talked about his injuries, his return and the Lakers.
RMC: When will you come back to the collective practice?
Tony Parker: Today, I start today. Yesterday, I dribbled, shot, I made a normal training but an individual one! Today I will play in a collective practice but without opposition, the staff do not want to take risks, they want to wait a week. For my return to the competition, I really do not know yet, we’ll see what game it will be during the week next, I do not know yet exactly. But I will play a few games before the play-offs.
RMC: How do you handle this season with so much injuries?
Tony Parker: Anyway, when you look at the careers of all athletes, there is always one year or two where they are handicapped by injuries. It was this season for me. But I am positive because I knew it could happen, now it’s my job to come back stronger and in shape for the playoffs.
RMC: And how do you find the Spurs before the playoffs?
Tony Parker: It was a little difficult this year because we’ve changed half the team, and it takes time to mix it all together. During the last two weeks, we do not play too badly, but we were late and we lost games that we should not have lost. That’s why now we are in this situation. We are eighth of the Western Conference, it will be a little complicated if we play the Lakers in the first round. We have to make a good run during the last eight games to finish as high as possible to avoid the Lakers, it would be too bad to play them in the first round, they are strong!

See? Even the players know a 1st round meeting with the lakers should be avoided if at all possible.
Funny that certain knuckleheads in this forum don't get it, of course they aren't the ones that actually have to play the games! :lmao

that's because in a playoff run you usually gradually increase the intensity with each playoff round.
can't blame the "knuckeheads" for not knowing much about playoffs.

Intensity generally does increase the furthur into the playoffs. But a 1st round matchup w/ the lakers would be as intense as a Conf finals series. Lakers are the defending champs and are going to come out looking for blood and to establish dominance first thing. They'll be well rested and easily able to crank it up a few notches.
Even if the spurs were to beat them in the 1st round it would be a grueling series that would really tax the veterans.

What's up with TP? I think he's wrong. We are in this position couse all the things we didnt do all year except this last month or so. Since his injury this team is playing way better D and everyone on O is being involved.
I think he's mad couse the team finally clicked without him. I love TP, but his words made me mad today. He's scared of LA and bla bla bla, WTF. Not the best TP interview, hope he shakes this bad feeling he has, couse chemistry wise, his teammates are feeling good, dont fuck it up TP.
He should be praising his teammates for playing without him and getting great wins... Dunno what's his problem with it.

Parker know what's up. You stupid Spur fans must want a quick death.
The Lake show is not running on all cylinders. They are not as dominant as last year. Their starting 5 is probably is the best in the league, but their bench is putrid. There defense is all of a sudden suspect, not too much mention Bynum is starting to become the 2nd coming of Greg Oden. The Fakers might be the favorite to represent the West this year, but, unlike last year, this year will be no walk in the park.

That's exactly the point TP is making in the part you bolded. They played well the last two weeks, but it came late in the season.

Parker is French, you can't blame him for wanting to avoid confrontation with your evil empire. The rest of Spurs aren't scared, and even if the Spurs lost in the 1st round to the Lakers...you will be hurt and you will bleed, and I wouldn't be surprised if it rocked your asses enough to hinder you in the 2nd round. Bring it! :ihit

Maybe his words were somewhat lost in translation, but the mere fact that he'd admit to not wanting to play any team, particularly the team this team was built to go through and could very well draw in round one, is just stupid.
I already knew that the Spurs didn't believe that they could beat the Lakers, but what a defeatist attitude. For a core that's been as successful as the Spurs has been, you'd think they'd be more confident, at least publicly. Duncan (to paraphrase): "When we're playing well we can beat just about anybody".
I don't get these guys. What are they going to do when they more than likely end up drawing the Lakers in round one? Hang their heads and play scared because they don't think they can beat them? Pathetic.

Well I don't like the TP comment at all.
He is kinda becoming Phil Jackson's bitch which is probably a reason he doesn't want to play the Lakers. In a playoff series against LA, TP knows he has to bring it and hit those jumpshots cause Phil Jackson usually dares him to hit his jumpers and for some reason TP misses them.
It's a mental thing against LA for some of our players. They need to get their heads out of their asses and just play instead of letting Phil Jackson get in their heads.
