Thank you Representive Al Edwards and the rest of the Texas House for yet again turning our great state into a national joke.

AUSTIN, Texas - After an alternately comic and fiery debate — punctuated by several lawmakers waving pompons — the state House on Tuesday approved a bill to restrict "overtly sexually suggestive" cheerleading to more ladylike performances.

The bill would give the state education commissioner authority to request that school districts review high school performances.

"Girls can get out and do all of these overly sexually performances and we applaud them, and that's not right," said Democratic Rep. Al Edwards, who filed the legislation.

Edwards argued bawdy performances are a distraction for students resulting in pregnancies, dropouts and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Ribald performances are not defined in the bill. "Any adult that's been involved with sex in their lives, they know it when they see it," he said.

The bill passed on a 65-56 vote. It still must be approved by the Senate and signed by Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

One critic questioned the legislation's priorities.

"Have we done anything about stem cell research to help people who are dying and are sick advance their health? No," said Democratic Rep. Senfronia Thompson. "Have we done anything about the mentally ill, school finance or ethics?"

The American Civil Liberties Union said the measure was unnecessary because state law already prohibits public lewdness by students on or near a school campus.

We do? Or not? I get so confused.

Wouldn't it be fun to be the perv in charge of "auditing" performances?

I think it was a good thing.

But when you also have the cheerleaders scantily clad with their flat belly's showing and those short skirts what man doesn't think of sex?

Seriously, for guys like Tpark and NBADan, a hot girl smiling at them would be considered sexual to them.

How do you legislate that?

There's so many more important things, like education reform, property tax issues, etc. that need to be worked on, and they're wasting their time (and taxpayer money) on this?

Well, at least they're not challenging teaching the evolution theory.

Yes, because in places like Texas, sex is considered a bad thing. Unless of course it's done under the Christian guidelines of how sex is supposed to be practiced.

And whats worse, is that those guildelines are paraded around by a large segment of society that doesn't adhere to them. And if you think they do, you need to check out the sales figures for The Adult Megaplex.

This country is forever trying to smother sexuality. While we have no problem allowing images of violence to be shown constantly over our televisions, we nearly have a breakdown of society at the sight of a 40 year old woman's nipple. Heaven forbid a penis ever makes it onto the Superbowl halftime show, Armagedon would surely be at hand.

Good point Manny. Women wear less than cheerleaders on MTV, I don't see us censoring them.

The Lege doesn't have the Demos running away this year to keep us entertained, so they had to think of something.
