View Full Version : Spurs look to probably make that 50 win goal afterall

Had serious doubts that the streak continuing would be possible 15 days ago, but with improbable wins at Boston, at LA, and home win against the best team in the NBA, the Cavs, the Spurs have real shot at making that 50 win plateau for their 13th straight year, just one off the NBA record.
Currently 47 wins, they need 3 more.
Probable wins in bold:

Looks like 50 is very easily done. If they can maintain this level of play, I don't see why they can't win out. The Suns and the Nuggets don't worry me, but I think it's more important for confidence and momentum to beat the Mavs.

I don't feel good about this last stretch at all.
With Hill out, we needed to play Ginobili 37 minutes, Tim 37 minutes (because those two work phenomenally together) to bust out this win against L.A., because we needed Ginobili's playmaking abilities in the absence of a true point guard.
We...can't do that anymore. I know Ginobili stepped it up fourth quarter and went into super manu mode, but you could clearly tell he was very very fucking tired.
I think our best shot is to win a game against Sacramento and then semi-fold against the much more elite Suns team (obviously if you're looking at it from a "we need wins to stay in 7th seed or move up" perspective, you want to take your chances with the lesser teams to get your wins)

Spurs may get to 50 but I can see them laying a couple of eggs=losses along the way.

Blazers have the easiest schedule..don't see them in the 8th spot (with the tiebreaker against us). We have to hope for at least a tie with OKC.

The only game left that I really don't see how the Spurs can win is at Phoenix on the second night of a back-to-back with no point guards.

Is Hill really out for a while? The sprain did not look that bad when it happened, the foot barely turned at all, I have done a lot worse than that and I am old.:)

He was on crutches after the game and the team sent him back to SA where he will get an MRI today.

We are one loss away from catching Dallas and playing for the division title in the last game of the season.

All the Spurs have to do is beat Phoenix and Denver and it's on.
:)
Actually, SA would have tiebreaker there.

Doubt It.... I can See Maybe A 4 seed.... Id Prefer 2, 3, 6, 7 seed anyway..... We Avoid The lakers for the 1st 2 rounds, we can get Healthy And get Some chemistry Goin with Tony Just Comin Back, and Gettin G.Hill Back. Should Be Very interesting Down the stretch.

agree, I do not want to be 4 or 5 seed. The 6 seed or 3 seed is the place to be. Want to avoid Utah and LA is 1st round, any other team is ok with me.

Utah is a lock for 2 seed after they got lucky last night against The Thunder. They play all dogs except for final game against Phoenix. Therefore, the Spurs need to find a way to win 51 games to avoid the 7 seed as well as 8 seed. The have tiebreaker against Ok City, so if tied with them for 6th like now, they will get the 6 seed.

Shame on all of you that counted this resilient team out for 50 wins or serious contention, when 2 weeks or so there were a few brave of us (myself included) seeing an upturn on the way due to an improving pattern of play:

It would be 50 or the equivalent for the last 13 years, but 50 or more for the last 11 years.
It would also be 16 of the last 17 years with 50+ or the equivalent.

Gotta win two out of three against Denver, Minnesota, and Dallas now, which is certainly possible, bit with the way this team has played these last two games, I'm not so sure it'll be done.

The only possible losses for either Portland or Ok City besides todays Portland Lakers game is when they play each other.
It looks like Spurs will have to beat both Minn and Dallas to get 7 seed.

What does it matter. The spurs are not getting past the 2nd round. Id rather the spurs draft before Portland. Portland likes to screw up the spurs draft plans.

I do not think one spot makes any difference this year. I have to pull for SA to try to win a series or two, never root against them, unless they had chance to get #1 lottery pick.

If Portland loses today to LA and tomorrow to OKC while the Spurs beat Minny, then Portland finishes in 8th no matter what the Spurs do against against Dallas.

True, but it's the only realistic scenario that avoids the need for a win vs. Dallas. OKC needs that game against Portland to avoid the possibility of falling to 8th themselves.
Anyway, for one Sunday in April I'm pulling for the Lakers.
