Spurs Assign Gee To D-League

Apr 08, 2010 6:35 PM EST
The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have assigned guard Alonzo Gee to the Austin Toros, the NBA Development League team owned and operated by the Spurs.

The 6-6, 220 lbs. Gee was signed by San Antonio on 3/29. He had previously appeared in 11 games with the Washington Wizards where he averaged 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 16.5 minutes. Prior to joining the Wizards, Gee had appeared in 36 games for the Toros where he averaged 21.0 points and 6.6 rebounds in 38.2 minutes. Gee has recorded four double-doubles for the Toros this season and notched a season-high 34 points vs. Sioux Falls on 1/6.

Watching a Jerrells-to-Gee fastbreak alley oop in the Toros playoff game makes me feel good about keeping those two around.

Gee and Jerrells are carrying the Toros while all the Toros bigs are in foul trouble.

Jerrells has 19 points at the half. Gee 14.

Not sure if it's enough to pull the win in the 1st round.

Going to watch the 2nd half of this game, check Hudson, Jerrells and Clinch. Watched the Flash yesterday. Taylor Griffin is unbelievably bad. A scrub at the D-League level. Liking Pruitt lately. If he stopped his Vin Baker impersonation, he can develop into a decent NBA backup.

I really like the spurs to sign Gee and use him next year. He might be the kind of serviceable SG the FO used to find in the past. Devin Brown, Stephen Jackson, etc.

Not sure if it's enough to pull the win in the 1st round.Dakota has had as almost as much of a talent drain as the Toros, but remains a little more talented overall. Given Jerrells and Gee's performance, if Basden keeps up his scoring and one big man plays worth a crap (Underwood was a good emergency pickup), the Toros should take this next game.
