Worse loss of the season. After surprisingly beating Magic/Lakers, Spurs got an unexpected reprieve on Nets loss. They just threw that away with this loss.

Should've played Timmy more. They had a better chance to win this one than the one tomorrow.

Question is, why is Pop going to the un-clutch guys in these situations. We've got freakin' Tim Duncan in there.

Duncan needs to take matters into his own hands, like every other player of his stature. He should have got up and went to the scorers table when it was slipping away late in the 1st half.

Fuck this coach. This dumb ass gambled and lost and has now set his team up to be 8th and face a team he admitted they wanted to hide from. So what does he tell the team before they go out there for game one?

Did Tony screw up or chemistry?

Spurs are 1-3 with him back!

No he didn´t, he just can´t be George Hill.

Still Temple is finishing the game with +10. And Parker with -16.

From these last games i think we all agree that he could not make this team work as good as Hill, nor ofensively or defensively.

Ice009
04-09-2010, 10:05 PM
Pop's rotations are killer.

We had such a delicate balance going with our chemistry all it took is a slight change with Hill getting injured and that chemistry is shot. Even though we get an All-Star back I just think that balance is not there anymore.

Pop has also shot his team by saying that we want no part of the lakers. Funny how we started playing like shit after Pop announced after that Lakers game where we don't want the Lakers in round 1. He's not giving his team much confidence at all with those kinds of comments. This team is fragile and guys like RJ, Bonner don't need to hear this.

I think the delicate balance though is the main reason for our struggles.

DEFINITELY NOT ON TP at all.

We need Hill back and we need to get back to our old rotation pretty quick. Substitute Parker for Mason and off we go. Right now the team is playing with no defensive intensity.

I think Dice and RJ thought that with Tony back and against Memphis we could just throw our jocks out there and win. Maybe against some teams we could, but the Grizzlies came to play.

Then again, Pop thought we could just fuck around and win too, with those idiotic rotations.

Now of all times to fall in love with Temple? It seems like he'll play anyone but Hairston.

What happened to The Centerpiece?

Fuck I hate Mason. He should never ever play. Aaaaargh.

Our two new frontline players McDyess and Jefferson gave us nothing from the 2nd quarter on.

No that's not quite right. Jefferson missed every shot he took in the 2nd half and made a lot of unforced errors. McDyess simply disaappeared.

We aren't going anywhere with these guys. Too inconsistent and questionable skills.

It's time to make a decision, no more of this in between shit. Either run the key players into the ground in hopes of avoiding the eighth seed or don't play them entirely. The worst case scenario is the one Pop has probably doomed the Spurs to: key players not getting rest AND the eighth seed.

Since I don't think he'll rest the key players entirely, then start playing a playoff rotation, not a preseason one. Start Parker and play the starters extended minutes. No more minutes for Mason, Hairston or Mahinmi. Temple can play sparingly until Hill returns.

No fucking doubt. Barring a miraculous choke by Portland or Oklahoma City, they are locked into the eight seed. Might as well lie back and enjoy it.

Yep. I really think this team had such delicate chemistry going and him going out HURT us a lot.

Too many fragile players on the team. Temple seems tougher than a lot of these so called NBA veterans, which is sad.

The most hearth wrenching development for me in this game was seeing the same old habits:
- Pop resting players and outsmarting himself
- Compounds the problem by going back to small ball
- Playing absolute chokers in crunch time

I liked this team a lot better when Pop had less options to tinker with...

So essentially we are either going to play the Lakers or the Mavs.

Season = Fail.

(how bad are those Hawks and Nets losses last few weeks? We win those easy gimmies and tonight's loss puts us at where we were before it. Just sayin.)

Excluding wins over Chicago and Toronto -- which are still jostling for the last playoff spot in the East -- it was Memphis' first win over a guaranteed playoff-bound team since beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 1.

Randolph, Grizzlies stun Spurs in San Antonio (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2010040924)
By Paul J. Weber

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—The Memphis Grizzlies will miss the playoffs because they couldn’t keep up with the San Antonio Spurs the past two months.

They finally did Friday night. And it might cost the Spurs.

Zach Randolph had 28 points and 15 rebounds, and Memphis dropped San Antonio back to the eighth seed in the tight Western Conference playoff race with a 107-99 win over the Spurs, who have just three games left.

The Spurs are playing to avoid the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, while Memphis is simply trying for its first winning season since 2005-06.

“Coaching staff deserves a winning record this year, so we just came out like we had an opportunity to play for the playoffs,” Memphis guard O.J. Mayo said.

Had the Grizzlies (40-39) beat more teams like the Spurs down the stretch, they probably could’ve done more than simply pretend they’re still in the hunt.

Excluding a win over Chicago, which can still make the playoffs in the East, the win was the first for Memphis over a guaranteed playoff-bound team since beating Boston on March 10.

Rudy Gay scored 21 points and Mayo had 20 for Memphis, which snapped a three-game slide by getting its first win in San Antonio since 2005.

With San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Portland all within a game of each other, letting the Grizzlies walk out of the AT&T Center with their first win in 11 tries was especially untimely for the Spurs.

“Very disappointing,” Manu Ginobili said. “A game we were counting on. We had to win, especially with the two remaining.”

Ginobili led the Spurs with 26 points, hours after signing a three-year, $39 million extension earned with a dazzling last few weeks.

This probably spoiled the celebration.

Trailing by 102-99 with less than a minute left, Ginobili missed a rushed 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down. Randolph then quashed San Antonio’s last hope the next time down, picking off a weak pass from Matt Bonner.

“It’s a big win for us. We’re playing spoiler right now,” Gay said. “Most teams don’t think we have much to play for. We do. Playing for our pride.”

Mike Conley had 14 for the Grizzlies, including a big running jumper over the outstretched hand of Tim Duncan with 2:30 left that gave Memphis a 102-99 lead.

Duncan had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Bonner scored 19 for the Spurs. Tony Parker, continuing to come off the bench while easing back from a broken right hand, scored 13 points and had eight assists.

It was the second straight loss for the Spurs, who turn around and play Denver on Saturday. The Spurs finish the regular season by playing Minnesota at home and Dallas on the road.

The Spurs have the head-to-head advantage over Oklahoma City but not Portland. The Thunder and Trail Blazers still have one game left against each other Monday.

“We are in a great fight with Portland and Oklahoma City,” Ginobili said. “We let this one get away. We should have won and at least taken a one-game advantage.”

Memphis crawled back after the early makings of a Spurs blowout. A 13-point lead in the second quarter gave coach Gregg Popovich the luxury of letting Duncan mostly sit and rest for Saturday’s game at Denver.

But the Grizzlies, whose playoff hopes died a week ago, came right back. Randolph and Conley scored nine points apiece during a 31-17 run to end the first half, and Memphis took a 58-57 lead into the locker room.

“We regrouped tonight,” Randolph said. “It was a big win for us.”

NOTES: Spurs G George Hill said his ankle is feeling better but still isn’t back to practicing since spraining his ankle Sunday. Popovich said there’s still no timetable for his return. …The Grizzlies need to win their last three games (Philadelphia, Denver, Oklahoma City) to guarantee their first winning season since 2005-06.

No defense + Pop playing the mad scientist are the main reasons of the L.

I also still can't believe that Spurs will enter in the playoffs with only 3 vet PF/C.
Blair was horrible and showed all his "rookieness" in this game. If he has a bad game in playoffs, Spurs will be in big trouble. Even if Ian did a good job yesterday, he is so unproven that counting on him for the playoffs is crazy.

I still don't get why Spurs haven't signed a vet PF/C after the Ratliff trade. It's a huge mystery for me.
