How is it? I didn't play FIFA 10, and I know this game is pretty much FIFA 10 with very minor upgrades and, of course, the wc tournament. I've gotten the world cup games since 98, so i'll prob pick this up pretty soon.

I'm assuming they still make Pro Evolution/ Winning Eleven and if so is it better than this? It used to play a lot of WE on a Jap PS2 and I miss the shit out of that game. It was amazing.

Basically, they haven't made a great Winning Eleven game for the PS3/Xbox 360 (in like four attempts). It's unfortunate; it was definitely the best sports games I have ever played.

Pro Evolution used to be THE shit a few years ago
I remember during my PS1 days, there was only one bad opus
The reason was that Konami has 2 development teams : Tokyo and Osaka
K.Tokyo used to make the good ones; the bad opus was made by the Osaka team
I'm wondering if the same thing is happening

Hmm, it could be. Because it's just weird that they haven't utilized the power of next-gen consoles to make a great game. I can't honestly even begin to count how many hours I put into "Master League" mode or online play for WE7-9 :wow

Ah te good old master league; take a club with shitty players, try to win some games, earn cash and build an all-star team; that was good
I remember, one of my best friends was GOD; almost impossible to beat
So, I invited him over, but before that I tweaked my teams - I created players similar to the original ones; for example, I took the Belgian team, and replaced all their players with my creations; similar appearance, size, looks...except that my players had maximum ratings :lol
And he wouldnt have guessed based on their names, since most PEV didn't have the official license anyway
He was so pissed; he went for a pee break, saying: " when I come back, I'm gonna play with your teams, and you're gonna play with mines "
Quick as a cat, I reverted the steroided teams to their normal rosters :D , while he was in the bathroom, and uploaded "super soldiers" on the other teams
That's right, I had a plan B; my friend is so competitive that I saw his reaction coming.
I almost made him cry with double digit wins :king

I went ahead and got PES2010 since my 2 best friends have it so I'll be able to play online.
I have a question that maybe you two can answer though. How can I get a good file to update the names and how do I do it?

Thank you.
I just played one exhibition game (Slovenia vs US LOL) and then fired up Netflix but it was teh same game I loved play wise with sick new graphics. Haven't done the career modes yet but hopefully over the next week I'll be able to knock some of that out. Looks great so far.

Good to see we have some Winning Eleven fans here.
Winning Eleven 9 stands untouched IMO as the greatest sports game of all-time. Master League was absolutely incredible. I have probably played through 30 full seasons in it (for those of you that don't know, there's no simming, so you have to play EVERY game).
There's nothing quite like the feeling of struggling for a season or two in Master League only to sign your first big name player. You can pick up Rooney in the second season and he become unstoppable, but I like a challenge, so usually I wouldn't take him, as it's almost too easy to score with him at CF.

I played FIFA 98-02, most of which are decent games, but nothing like the experience I got the first time I tried WE6/PES2. Then WE7 came out, which was almost perfect gameplay-wise and is my sentimental favorite. When WE9 came out and combined a tweaked Master League with online play, it was basically the ultimate soccer game. Henry would always be my first choice when I had enough money; he was good for 30+ goals a year. Playing on five stars (6 stars in some) always keep me on the edge of my seat. A fucking classic.
I wasn't bad online either, I think I ended up going 200-50 or something. Breaking the heart of someone in the 88th minute or coming back from 3-0 in the second half against someone was priceless. Heck, I still remember facing a guy who was 144-2 and he beat me on a free kick in the 92nd minute to win 2-1 :lol.

I never got into the online play that much, but I'm sure I would have tore some people up if I did.
I took a fairly average team up against AC Milan on 6 star difficulty and beat them 8-1. These kinds of results were pretty common. I handicapped myself by imposing a salary cap of 10,000 per season. It made the game a bit more challenging. And Henry is good, but no one was better than Rooney for just sheer dominance, not even Ronaldo. I've had some 5 goal outings by Rooney a couple of times. He's just too strong for the fast defenders and too fast for the big guys.
I also had a record once of all wins, one draw, and one loss in Master League, in the toughest division (the one with Juventus, AC Milan, and Chelsea).
I walked through the competition to the championship that year. It was too easy. Putting Fernando Torres and Rooney on the same team together essentially guarantees you a minimum of 3 goals per game if you know what you're doing.

You would've loved online. There were people with skill levels from both ends of the spectrum. From dudes that flat out sucked, to players that could score and use brute force but couldn't build a cohesive attack, to people I considered at my level, to the wackos who would snuff out any attack and destroy you on the counter-attack. Online with the newer WE have been brutal, however, in terms of lag. They might've fixed it this year, I never tried it.
I agree with the handicaps, when I first started ML mode I would build an entire team to top flight players (not all-stars, but capable players). You could basically run a train through the league, going undefeated. I had to basically restrict myself to a few good players while keeping most of my initial 2nd division team.
Rooney was dominant in the game for me, but I think I actually scored the easier with Adriano. It was unfair - he had the strength of a bull so he could never be taken down and he had a rocket of a left foot. I must've scored 55+ goals in league play with him.

I think I hit 75 goals one year with Rooney. It was so unfair. He was getting a hat trick every 4th game or so.
I really wish I would have gotten into the online play, but I think I picked it up after most of the people were done with it. I also had to handicap myself on the field to give the computer a fair chance. No cheap goals from running parallel to the goal and then turning and shooting, no using a fast player to basically break their entire defense down the sideline before they could react, that kind of thing.

Well that's good to know, I might consider giving it a go. I played PES 2008 and 2009 against my best friend who lives 15 minutes away from me, and the players STILL used to teleport. Turned me off completely.

All I know is that the AI on regular wasn't very good. I was tearing up Brazil with USA in my 2nd game. Thats just not right. I think there are 2-3 difficulty levels above that, however.

It's fun, just ridiculously hard on World Cup Difficulty. I won the world cup easily on the second hardest difficulty.
I beat Argentina 1-0 in the 90th minute yesterday in the round of 16. Gonna play England later on today. It would probably be easier if I had a top flight team instead of Mexico.

Well, realistically speaking, you probably shouldn't be able to win the World Cup with Mexico. So the difficulty should be ridiculously high.

Well, that will fucking show you. I won it with Mexico. Beat Italy 2-0 and France 4-1 for the Semi's(Italy) and Finals(France). It was sweet revenge, cause France absolutely killed me in the group stage.
I I lost in the QF's with England before this, too:lol

If you're already beating it on the hardest difficulty, then it's probably too easy. :P
