LOPEZ INJURY UPDATE

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns today made the following announcement:

Suns center Robin Lopez was seen today by specialist Dr. Christopher Huston of The Orthopedic Clinic Association (TOCA) in Phoenix. Lopez, who has missed the club's last eight games due to an injured back, did not receive an epidural and is progressing well. He will continue to undergo rehabilitation and will be re-evaluated in one week.

The second-year player was the Suns' first-round pick (15th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft. The 7-0, 255-pound center has blossomed after being inserted into the Suns' starting lineup on Jan. 18, helping to lead the Suns to a 22-9 (.710) record in his starts. As a starter, Lopez has averaged 11.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 24.5 minutes.

For the season, the Stanford product is posting career-highs in points (8.4), rebounds (4.9), blocks (1.04) and minutes (19.3). His 58.8-percent field-goal accuracy (171/291) would rank third in the NBA if he reached the statistical minimum needed to qualify (min. 300 field goals made).

So we won't know if he'll be playoff-ready until Monday... isn't that when the playoffs begin?

Who'd of thunk how far Phoenix goes in the playoffs would rest on this man.

Who'd of thunk there's even a chance Phoenix goes far in the playoffs. Even most of the biggest homers on the planet thought Phoenix had no chance at escaping the 1st round. Without Lopez it'll be really hard but the entire team has been a surprise this year.

re-evaluated in 1 week means he is probably out a the first few games of round 1....doubt he plays without going through some type of practice

Rough... It's damn hard to reintroduce players late in the season or during the playoffs. I don't know if I've ever seen it benefit any team.

True, but because Gentry kept Frye on the bench and started Collins, the style of play and chemistry won't really be as affected if reintroduced, but could be significant for timing for the player.

BTW, nice avatar, wish the Suns had won that game...

If he's cleared to play in one week--next Monday--then that would be in time for Game 2, assuming he could play immediately. So he would probably play by Game 3 at the latest (if he's cleared Monday).
