If you had a single aunt who lived for years with her “best friend” many people may not have thought twice about it, but as lesbians, we might guess there is something more to their relationship. We often look for subtle clues about people's personal lives to determine, if perhaps, they are "like us."
Homophobia and Sports
The reality is for many people, whether famous or not, is that it simply is still not safe to come out of the closet. They could lose their jobs, suffer discrimination, or be shunned from their families and lose custody of their children. The world of sports is still a bastion of homophobia. So far, the only WNBA player to come out as a lesbian is now retired Sue Wicks and Michele Van Gorp. (Update: WNBA Star Sheryl Swoopes came out as a lesbian in October 2005).
But a recent interview on WNBA.com with Diana Taurasi, WNBA star has me wondering. When a fan asked Diana Taurasi if she had a boyfriend, Taurasi replied, "I do NOT have a boyfriend, but I am looking for someone rich, is about 6-8 and drives a BMW 745 li."

Now, all I need to know is how tall Donna Orender is and what kind of car does she drives. Seriously, does it matter if Diana Taurasi is a lesbian? She is a great basketball player and in a perfect world, we would admire her for that, no matter who she is attracted to.
So why speculate? Because as a group of people who are shunned and vilified, we are desperate for role models. For teenagers, struggling to come to terms with their sexuality, feeling as if they are the only one who has ever felt this way, knowing someone who they look up to and admire also is gay can literally be a life-saver.
We would love to claim someone who has such class and is so popular among our ranks. As more and more celebrities come out of the closet, it can only help make the world a more accepting place for gays and lesbians.
So, whether or not Diana Taurasi is a lesbian, I admire her for admitting that she has a crush on another woman. Most likely Taurasi's admiration of Donna Orender is more about her success as a business woman and leader. But Diana, let me be the first to say, you are a great role model yourself!

Photoshop, you dumbass. You think she really looks that tanned? The tanning effect covers up her ugly skin just like how the NBA magazine airbrushed most of Iverson's tattoos out of their cover. And they used another effect to liquify the body so that they could modify it to look nicer.
