I mean a series where a game or two into it, you already knew it was over and there was 0% chance to win. No hope of a miracle, no hope of someone catching fire, no "We Believe". This just wasn't your year and it was going to end bad, and you knew it way before the series officially ended.

For me it was Detroit. I knew that shit was a wrap one quarter into game 3 - they hadn't even taken a series lead yet. But I knew it was a wrap. There wasn't even really any sense of despair, just realization and a calm acceptance.

I watched the rest of the series not hoping we'd win, cause I knew that wasnt happening, but out of morbid curiosity similar to the trainwreck effect.

Anyway, what were the times this happened to you?

Spurs vs. Lakers in 2008. When the Lakers snatched game 1 from us, I knew we weren't going to repeat after that.

The last playoff series Phoenix was in. Once Dunan's 3 sank, it became pretty clear to me that this wasn't happening.

2007 Finals. I went into that series thinking the Cavaliers wouldn't win, but would take a couple of games. By the end of the first quarter of Game One I knew it would take a miracle for the Cavaliers not to get swept.

Tim Duncan + Tony parker = 16 points

JJ Barea = 13 points

Yeah it sucked.

Yeah, like some have said before, the Dallas series last year.

Before that was the 2000 PHO-SA series when Duncan was out. That sucked. I remember taking that ONE game from 'em where Dave had to play his heart out, and that was the one bit of solace I could take from that year's POs.

And apart from last year there was Manu's foul on Dirk, when that happened you just knew the Spurs would lose in OT. Also 0.4 kinda sucked.

Right after Game 7 against the Hornets:
Airplane problems + banged up Ginobili + toughest 1st and 2nd round series anyone faced that year + Lakers chilling at home = not a recipe to repeat

Rockets vs. Lakers First round 2004

This! That year, the Lakers had the likes of Shaq, Kobe, Malone, Payton

We were in the last year of the Stevie Franchise era, with Mobley, Moochie Norris, Bostjan Nachbar, Yao, Jim (mothafuckin) Jackson :/, and some other scrubs

Maybe it says how lazy or poorly coached our team was since mid-2004, but not until last seasons Cavs-Pistons series did I feel hopeless. I thought the Pistons had no hope in 2005 against Miami, but proved me worng, and the Pistons had no business loosing in 2006. By 2007, I was just dumbfounded by the ineptitude of our point guard and coaching late in the playoffs. But I always believed they would come out on top. Until last year that is.

It became clear to D'Antoni, too.

Last year wasn't really a "hopeless" feeling, it was obvious that the Spurs weren't going to win without Manu and a hobbled Duncan..I didn't have any expectations..

So probably 2001..I didn't think the Spurs were going to win that series either, but I didn't think it would be that bad..

Looking back on it, the time when we should have known they were never going to beat the Spurs was when D'antoni said his biggest mistake against them in 2007 was using Kurt Thomas. At the time I couldn't believe he was seriously saying Kurt Thomas was the reason they lost to San Antonio, but in hindsight, that moment was when D'antoni made sure no one doubted the fact he was a bonafide egotistical dumbass.

And when Duncan choked at the end of Game 5 against Detroit, thank god Horry was in beast mode.

Mavs/Warriors

Not that I had warm feelings about going up against New Orleans or the Nuggets the following years, but I was very doom and gloom the second Avery decided to sit the starters out during the final regular season game against the Warriors and give the Warriors the win they needed to get the 8th seed.

After blowing the 20 point lead vs. the Lakers in '08 game 1, we were up 65-45 with 5:49 left in the 3rd quarter :( then a 6 minute drought in the 4th quarter...that was hopeless lol

after .4, that heartbreaking loss would have been tough for any team to overcome

2000.

Suns vs Lakers, round 2.

I knew there was no chance in hell they were going to win.

2002 ECF vs the Nets during and even after game 3. Boston made a great comeback being 26 down and won. Thing is I said to myself "Celts didn't win, Nets just gave it away. If they can stop doing that, they will win the next 3 games."

Nets nearly blew game 4 but escaped thanks to Pierce's missed FT to tie it. Games 5 and 6 the Nets took over.
