CLEVELAND -- Kellen Winslow's internal injuries from a motorcycle accident are improving, but the Cleveland Browns are concerned with damage to his right knee, the team said Wednesday.

Winslow was injured in an accident that sent him flying over the handlebars of his newly purchased motorcycle Sunday night.

The Browns issued a statement saying his knee will continue to be re-evaluated but declined to provide any specifics.

The 21-year-old tight end remains hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic and a timetable for his release has not been determined.

The team also reported that Winslow is in good spirits. He has had a number of visitors over the last few days, including team president John Collins, general manager Phil Savage, coach Romeo Crennel and teammates.

Winslow's injuries are another setback for him and the struggling Browns. His rookie season ended when he broke his right leg during an onside kick in a Week 2 loss against Dallas. He lost a $5.3 million bonus last season because of the leg injury that dealt a severe blow to Cleveland's offense.

With his leg still on the mend, Winslow purchased a sport bike last month and was learning how to ride it in a parking lot when he hit a curb. He complained of chest pains after the crash.

Winslow's use of a motorcycle may have violated standard NFL player contract language that prohibits players from engaging in dangerous activities. If so, Cleveland could require him to pay back a $4.4 million signing bonus he received in March.

The Browns have declined to comment on his contract.

Winslow held out last year before signing a $40 million contract -- a record for a tight end -- as the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft.

Just heard on radio that he is proably out for season with ACL damage.

If you are a professional athlete and your ride a motorcycle, no one should be sad for you if you fly off and end your career.

Actually, anyone who rides a motorcycle either has a death wish or a lower than normal IQ.

I love WInslow as a football player he was a good Tight End at the U, but as a person he's probably the dumbest fuckin guy in the NFL.
not exactly the sharpest of people. I think he got on his Motorbike and wanted to do jumps on curbs at 45 mph like napoleon dynamite.

he just pissed it all down the fuckin drain, and its a shame.
oh well Cleveland Sucks, props on drafting Braylon Edwards you need him now.

Yeah...a "wounded" one now...
Didn't he have a clause in his contract about riding a motorcycle or something like that? If he did, then he's a real idiot.

:rolleyes

you can ride a motorcycle safely. the fact is most people on crotch rockets don't do it. but the cruiser style bikes are more often than not ridden safely. that is why insurance is incredibly cheap on them. i pay like 300 bux a year for full coverage on my harley

And he's probably out of lots of bonus money. If I'm the Browns I'd terminate his contract. F- him. Its a shame what happened but the guys is an ill-advised IDIOT for messing around on a stupid motorcycle. Unfortunately his dumb ass got what was coming to him.
