Expect an ugly game where neither team can establish a rhythm because there's constant stoppages in play so each team can shoot 40 free throws, along with about 3-4 technicals on each team, and both Popovich and Carlisle having to be restrained by their assistants at various points from charging the court to scream at the refs.

First time I have agreed with a Mavs fan. I hope they don't call the soft foul, but I think that favors the Spurs.

It would be a wash. Any trips to the line from nowitzki on soft fouls would pretty much be countered by ginobili, and you know the ball would go to their hands far more often than "usual" if it was clear that they were whistle happy on hard drives to the basket.

I hope its a free throw contest. Dirk's made 72 in a row.

Shaky starts for both teams- brick city.
2nd half: team that comes out agressively gets calls and FT's

Sorry, don't know but is Joey C in?

As for Javie not being in the playoffs is pretty weird. He's been a permanent fixture for years. Are the NBA refs actually looking at calls and judging performance or he is got an legit reason, like sickness or family issues, to not be there.

Will keep ears open - this is interesting.

Thanks for the info.

Findog, does Salvatore reffing get you nervous? :p:

I just hope Joey Crawford's bitch ass doesn't officiate another Spurs game ever again but that won't happen. So fuck him.

DALLAS -- Bennett Salvatore, who forever cemented his status as a villain in Dallas during Game 5 of the 2006 Finals, will work the Mavs-Spurs opener.

And he isn't the only controversial ref on the Game 1 crew, according to a list of assignments published by AOL Fanhouse.

Remember Bill Kennedy? He's the only ref ever to hit Dirk Nowitzki with two technicals and toss him, which happened during a March game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Dirk, who had complained that he was pushed in the back without a foul being called, said a couple of days later that he was "shocked" to be sent to the showers so quickly. Some Mavs folks hinted that it's no coincidence that Kennedy was miked up for the broadcast that night.

"He just wasn’t having nothing," Dirk said a couple of days later. "He was actually pretty fired up from the beginning on. The first play of the game he already started yelling at the players. For some reason, he was pretty hardcore the other day. I shouldn’t have reacted. I just should have known."

Beware: Salvatore and Kennedy, joined by Michael Smith, will be working at the AAC tonight.

I can assure you that Mark Cuban will at least be pleased not to see Danny Crawford, considering the Mavs win about one of 20 playoff games he works.

Mav fan is unbelievable. They try to take Spurs fans to task over complaining about refs, then we get this.

Kennedy is officiating tonight's game.

Javie only worked 14 games this season, looks like none since December, due to an injury.

We're allowed to fear this one ref. It will be in our nature forever.

It will be a poorly-officiated game on both sides and for both teams because Salvatore is involved. How is this complaining that the refs are out to get the Mavs? You know damn well a Salvatore crew is gonna screw something up, possibly in crunch-time, and it could impact either team. Two good teams like the Mavs/Spurs deserve a better officiating crew. Let Salvatore work the Cavs/Bulls games if he has to draw playoff assignments.

I am just saying, if it is going to be bad for both teams, who cares? It is what it is at this point.

Yeah, because you never know if his suckiness is going to go against you or for you. We're at home, he calls a lot of fouls, he's the kind of ref who doesn't have the stones to make a tough call that goes against the home team, so it may work to our advantage. I just hope he doesn't ref a game in San Antonio later in the series.

You should care if you want the players to decide things unencumbered by reffing controversy.

Salvatore and Kennedy are usually pro-Spurs..

Spurs are 3-1 when Salvatore officiates this season..

The stats say that Salvatore is actually fair when it comes to calls in general, 50% for the road team and 50% for the home team..when the Spurs are on the road, he calls 48%(-2) and when they're at home, he calls 47%(-3)..so he's usually fair to the Spurs..

Kennedy is usually 49.5% for the road and 50.5% for home..for the Spurs, he's been 47.4% on the road and around 48% at home..

However, they're both usually more home-biased than most refs..so it should be a well officiated game tonight, at least I hope so..

Playoff officiating should include,

Don't call the foul if the offensive player throws themself into the defender.
Fouls on jump shots should be obvious.
Flopping and flailing should not get a call.
Make the call inside when the shooter is being pushed in the lower body with the off hand.
Make the call when their is a foul on the drive to the basket.
Do not make a call on a great defensive play just because you were out of position.
Which leads to don't make a call that you did not see.

Refs effect almost every game. No need to complain before the game even starts.

Please don't let officiating play a huge role in this series, NBA . . .

Bennett was also the one that put the Mavs on the line 49 times in Game 1 of the Mavs/Spurs series in 2003.

Bad calls may happen. Just don't make bad calls in the last 4-5 minutes of the game.

ahh... Of course Mavs fans have nothing to complain about when they have blinded refs on their end of court, and the same refs who seem to have eagle eyes on the other hemi-court. umm...

So far so good, Dallas in the penalty.
