That's bullshit. I hate the NBA's stupid no-tolerance rules on fighting. I can't think of a single playoff suspension I have agreed with since I started watching NBA basketball.

and all because that one fan had to throw a drink on Ron Artest.

They've had these no-tolerance type rules since the Knicks/Heat made brawls a yearly tradition in the late 90s.

Nah, this all started around 98 or so when the league wanted to crack down on Miami and New York. Well, the automatic suspension rules did... I guess the softening of the league really started with Stern protecting Jordan from the Pistons in the late 80s - early 90s.

well nevermind then! :lol

in the 90's I was a kid who only interested in watching Jordan :downspin:

so you guys think the Artest incident didn't take suspensions for seemingly small infractions to another level?

the only reason this suspension actually makes me happy is it makes it more likely that the series will be competitive, and we get to watch Wade more.

It's not the NBA's fault that KG is in his thirties and still can't control his emotions...especially in a playoff game.

He threw an elbow to the head during a dead ball in a crowd. He deserves the suspension.

Stern prefers the NBA to run like watching the AI play against each other in a video game. Boring, predictable, and clean.

I'm surprised he doesn't fine players every time a cuss word slips through a TV broadcast.

PGDynasty24

They almost had 2. Dwight got suspended for a similar elbow last year

The players would adapt.

It's the same across the board in all sports. You can't throw knockdown pitches without warnings and ejections. You can't level a quarterback unless you tip toe in and announce your arrival. The bench clearing brawl in hockey is a relic of the past.

The $$$ being paid these players now compared to then is absurd and it's the owners and the leagues protecting their players and images.

And in a PC world where nobody can tell an off color joke without being labled a racist and nobody can laugh at themselves.... image is everything.

Exactly. I am all for them letting more contact go on the court. Elbows to the head on the sideline during a dead ball? Not so much.

I liked seeing Greg Kite get his ass kicked after clotheslining James Worthy and Bill Walton coming to bodyslam Ralph Sampson after Sampson started throwing punches at Jerry Sichting for having the nerve to try to deny him position on a break.

The league is stupid most of the time but this suspension was completely justified. Elbow to the face. If everything happened exactly the same except KG doesn't throw that second elbow, I don't think he gets suspended. Anyway. KG is such a fucking punk bitch.

It's deserved. Dude was in the middle of a heated crowd throwing elbows. If he hits the wrong person it's the Pistons/Pacers brawl all over again :lol If KG isn't suspended you probably have players looking for retaliation in Game 2 and things could get uglier.

Can you imagine if that elbow hit an assistant coach clean? Would have caused serious damage.

That fact that Gobbler is comparing a minor elbow to rape and racism speaks volumes on his beliefs..not that we needed this thread to prove it, since he's made light of those subjects in every thread in which they've ever been brought up..

I expected a suspension due to the wild elbow. Can't say I'm against it really. Just have to hope the Celts can grab the W without him... I think they can.

So let me get this straight. You are saying it's ok to throw an elbow with INTENT to injure someone and that is somehow a lesser offense that squinting your eyes with intent to make a joke? Really? WOW! And you question my beliefs? :lol

Kermit Washington... almost killed Tomjanovich.
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jgqUZ1IAA_8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jgqUZ1IAA_8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The punch, which took Tomjanovich by surprise, fractured his face away from his skull about 1/4 of an inch and left Tomjanovich unconscious in a pool of blood in the middle of the arena. Players involved often say that right after Tomjanovich collapsed, the silence at the arena, filled with shocked fans, was "the loudest silence ever heard". Upon later inspection by the doctors at the scene, it was discovered that Rudy was actually leaking spinal fluid into his mouth, and that not only his basketball career, but his life, was in danger at that point.
