No focus or effort from the Suns early on. Looks like they did nothing to prepare for the series.

Blazers 25, Suns 24 after 1. Blazers should feel good about the way they came out, am I the only person watching this game?

Portland has to do a better job at defending the 3pt line.. everything else has been solid. Phoenix has just been raining them in from 3pt land.

Honestly its going to be hard with or without roy.. but of the 3 teams we could of faced being phx, utah and dallas I believe this was our best shot. We do a pretty good job at defending them and if we play at our pace we have a great shot to get some w's. A lot of people wrote these guys off with roy down, I'm hoping that just makes the rest of the team play that much harder. I'm not sure how long we can keep amare on lock for but so far so good. Just got to defend the perimeter better.

They're shooting 47% from 3. Hopefully that goes down a bit.

mogrovejo

Suns are out of sync. Not taking advantage of Portland's switching defence, not scoring on transition and allowing them to dictate the tempo.

Andre Miller and LaMarcus Aldridge have negated most of Nash's and Amare's contributions. Marcus Camby has dominated the other big man spot. The starting wing players are fairly even and so too are the backup wings. An interesting matchup in the backup guard spots with two high-octane scorer with low IQ Bayless/Barbosa and the heady all-around Dragic. Phoenix has a good advantage on the backup big men slots.

Portland is only 6/7 deep though so their bench is going to be vulnerable in this series. Phoenix's bench has played well this season and should have a good advantage in this series. I think that's going to be the decisive factor even if the Suns can't get the transition game going.

BATUM IS A DEFENSIVE MONSTER.

No Joe would start...Doesn't Roy play more of a PG role for you guys? Doesn't he always have the ball in his hands?

You could put Joe at SG and Roy at PG. Its kind of big but I don't know...you guys need one more person to make you guys from being a tough team that fights against adversity to a team that actually goes far despite all the adversity.

Yea that would be a pretty good idea and combo, really never thought of it that way.. but after miller has been our m.v.p. this season I couldn't see us wanting to throw him out or put him as a back up.. if we didn't have batum blossoming jj would be sick on the team... I think he's going to stay with atl though, and don't blame him..

Why isn't Portland really good? I know they have a llot of injuries, but right now they are doing fine without 2 people they are building their franchise around (Roy and Oden)

Aldridge is shooting bad, but he has been very effective. He has been causing problems in the paint even though he hasn't been finishing.

Bayless provides a huge spark off the bench.

Andre Miller isn't the greatest PG but he facilitates, gets inside, and abuses smaller guards.

Batum looks great. Can hit jumpers and play good D.

Webster and Fernandez are awesome shooters.

Camby does all the dirty work.

At first, Portland being the sixth seed really surprised me, but I feel like you guys can be way better next year.

Amare 40 point ecstasy

Are you really that big of a asstard that you failed to notice the constant swarming doubles on Amare, many even before he touched the ball, and the defensive scheme that shadowed him off pics with two defenders while at the same time forgetting the context for the 40-point estimations?

Portland did a fantastic job first doubling Amare to take him out of the equation, then randomly swarming him in the second-half, convincing him to rush to get off the first available shot. I don't expect this type of performance again, even if the defensive scheme is the same.

Honestly not to pile on Suns but if Spurs or OKC played the Suns tonight they might be up 1-0 ditto Bobcats ...very disappointed in the Suns ...like Chuck said.

I thought they had "turned the corner" ...

I've always ripped on the Suns, but a lot of champions have lost there first game in round 1. I think Spurs did it 3 times...or what is twice? But they went on to win anyways.

Pray for Oden's health (not many good centers)

Trade Roy for a SG with good knees (or trade Oden I dont want two chronic knee problems on the same team)

Trade either Rudy or Webster for a true backup PG and make whomever you keep the 6th man ...

I can't believe the Suns lost this game. Seriously, they had so many advantages in their favor and yet they still lost. That's a damn shame. Props to the Blazers, they had every excuse to just lay down and die but yet they gave it their all and stole the win. That earns my respect, let's see what happens in Game 2.

Hey DOK, when is Lopez supposed to come back? You guys look like you need him out there, even though I think that loss last night was damn near inexcusable, I know not having Lopez plays a factor.

DUNCANownsKOBE2
04-19-2010, 10:58 AM
Lopez is all but done for the year, and with that loss this series will be tough. Nate McMillan found Phoenix's achilles heel and targetted it beautifully, the question is what they do to correct that.

Red Hawk #21
04-19-2010, 11:22 AM
Sucks that he's done for the season but the Suns MUST find ways to win. That's what playoff basketball is all about, their will be injuries, blown calls, bad officiating, and bad shooting nights sometimes. But good teams can always find a way to win. It will be a huge disappointment to the Suns fanbase if they lose this series, simply because you guys are better than the Blazers. You just can't lose to an inferior team who is missing their best player. Especially since these are the last years of having Nash around. Its just inexcusable, the bright side to this is that it was only one game. Phoenix can recover and regroup for game 2, but it won't be easy. The coaching battle in this series will also be fun to watch, let's see what adjustments Gentry and McMillan make.

DUNCANownsKOBE2
04-19-2010, 12:14 PM
I'm almost sure Phoenix wins game 2 (however I was pretty sure Phoenix would win game 1 but completely ignored the possibility of them hearing about how they had a 1st round bye and not doing jack shit to prepare for the series), after that it's up in the air.

The thing for Phoenix is, they played like absolute dog shit, and Portland executed a game plan almost to perfection, yet were still a game tying 3 from overtime if Nash passed to the wide open player rather than shot a contested off balance shot. People are gonna say "There's no way Batum and Bayless keep it up", but given their athleticism advantage over Phoenix they easily can. The Suns drafted Earl Clark so Phoenix wouldn't get thoroughly raped by guys like Batum, but he can't do anything if he's not playing.

Anyone actually watching most of the Blazers games knows that they are a different team with Camby and Miller. Their veteran toughness is the key to the Blazers success. Miller is a WAY underrated player who has always played for crappy teams with no media attention. CAmby is a former DPOY who somehow is dissed all the time. These guys are for real and they aoutplayed the Suns yesterday.

The Blazers are not "under-manned." They traded for Camby to replace Oden. They have Rudy and Bayless to take Roy's place. The main difference is that now they have Miller and Camby who actually think they can win and want to win.

pauls931
04-19-2010, 02:26 PM
Pho needs to move the ball. What little of the game I watched consisted of Portland swarming Nash and Stoudamire. The need to move the ball and hit some shots, no way Portland can guard all 5 players doing what they did last night.

Yeah, maybe they'll win game 2 (almost for sure), and also all their remaining home games. The question is, can they win @ the Rose Garden?? Well... they will have to, and that's not easy.

I wouldn't be so sure Phoenix wins their remaining home games. Unless they make proper adjustments this series is over quickly. Not having anyone athletic enough to stop Bayless or Batum, or any perimeter player tough enough to keep Miller out of the paint, or any big long enough to keep Camby off the glass isn't changing. If Portland can continue to get wins out of their obvious advantages over Phoenix, the series is over.

Not in my book. Dallas has the same problems against athleticism as Phoenix does, and like Phoenix is a team that loves jump shots.
