Hi guys,

I've been a lurker for quite a few months, but i decided to register on the
forums today :) some of you guys are quite a friendly bunch (from surfing
around earlier).

I'm just a little curious (actually very, very intrigued) though. I was
searching for a old thread i read some time back on the forum via google and
i spotted that that this site** is worth * $1,421,280* from this url
http://www.protrackr.com/www.spurstalk.com/<http://www.protrackr.com/www.spurstalk.com/?
Seriously? that's pretty damn impressive in my books. Must be you guys
posting everyday and contributing. anyway, just thought you guys might want
to know... yes i heard web 2.0 and community is priceless but that's
errrr... is seriously wild. I wonder if it was calculated like a dollar a
post or something.

ok i gotta fix my sig... so much for being tech stupid.

regards,
Jeb

I also own and flip websites from time to time and can give you a little info about that. Theoretically based purely on web hits and traffic the site can be given a very inflated value like that, but in reality any buyer is going to look at new visitor daily stats and revenue over at least the last 6 to 12 months. The type of website and it's monitization potential also makes a huge difference in the price a site can nab on an exchange or other seller platform. A basketball fan site with a ton of traffic from repeat visitors (I'm assuming the majority of ST traffic is repeat but I haven't researched the stats) with little to no revenue history won't be able to fetch a huge amount.

GOAZCATS.com is a V-Bookie fansite that utilizes header and footer ads, plus has banner ads. Their traffic isn't as large as Spurstalk. If someone wanted to guestimate what a V-bookie sports fansite brings in, one could contact the admin there and then estimate based on members, daily hits, etc...

I have always been surprised that Spurstalk.com has never gone to some form of advertising. Seems like a great way to pay for the site, if not make money, and a discreet header ad when searching the forums, or at the header of each forum really isn't so intrusive that it shouldn't even be considered.

I'm sure Kori and Tim are aware that they could monetize this site, and I'm grateful to them for having not done it yet.

They should barter out ad space. Food, hotels, merchandise, Spew tickets, whatever they want in exchange for some douchebags banners on their site. They should get a little in return.
