Thanks for the new background

Heh, that was the first thing *I* did after opening the thread, before I scrolled down to see your post.

Yeah, thanks to the OP, man. :toast That is an awesome picture for a background.

:lol

nope, thats really the name. Almost everyone on the knews butchers it when they try to say it. I think the J is supposed to be silent or used more like a "y" when pronouncing it.

And yes, when I found it, I put it as my background as well :toast

not photoshoped. Lighting does occur when Volcano's erupt. The ash has a high static charge and sometimes it's enough to create lightning.

here's some other photo's of lghtning at volcano eruptions.

an excerpt from a Yahoo news article..

The lighting in volcanic plumes is connected to the rotation that these plumes undergo, something like a tornado. As a plume rotates, it can spawn waterspouts or dust devils, which gather together the electric charges in the plume to form a sheath of lightning.

Scientists don't know exactly how lightning is created in an ash cloud, however. But they expect it's a result of particles rubbing together, generating friction and electrical charges.

It's totally amazing, but dayum it's fucking shit up over there. My poor friend was supposed to have flown with her two young kids from London to DC, where she and her husband are moving and they are completely stuck. In 10 days, everything in England is completely shut off and the international movers are coming to get them sorted in a week and they haven't any idea when they'll be able to leave.

Im not understanding what you mean exactly with the word fulmation, are you talking about the lightning or are you talking about lava erupting with the ash?( which, honestly, I dont see any lava).

Yes, I know what fulmation means BTW, just Keep in mind, I've looked at your post twice since I posted this, both times I've been drunk. :lol

If your asking about why there is lightning with the volcanic ash, the theory is that, prior to another lava eruption (or even just plain heat) causes a vortex that swirls the ash so violently that it causes the particles in the ash to create static electricity.... similar to dragging your feet on a carpet and shocking someone.... Eventually it builds up enough that a discharge has to go somewhere, hence the lightning.
