They missed a LOT of chippies and easy looks they usually make. Part of shooting 37% is the Spurs defense and part of it is the team as a whole not shooting well. This game was lost on the defensive end - maybe you didn't notice Richard Jefferson and Tony Parker raping us in the first half, then letting Duncan and Ginobili finish running the train in the second half.
I didn't talk shit after Game 1 and rub that in your face, nor am I throwing in the towel on the season after Game 2. We'll see who wins this series and has to take a timeout from the forum.

It doesn't matter which one they get, Dallas has to go back home no worse than 2-2. It can be G3 or G4, but they need one of them. They're not beating the Spurs three straight times.

I'm just wondering why the intensity wasn't there? This is the playoffs, right? I thought Dirk went into God-Mode all playoffs long? That's what everyone kept telling me. They constantly scoffed my prediction that this team would play just as inconsistently in the playoffs as they did during the regular season.

Who is this dumb, spare cunt that started this thread? You can't have it both ways - bitching about "trolls" after a loss and then inviting them back in after things swing your way.
Rebounding was dogshit, defense was dogshit, shooting and aggressiveness were dogshit. Marion played dumb. Too much Barea and Terry out there at the same time. Perimeter D was weak and the interior didn't make up for it when guys found their way inside. Not going to bring up the refs, but there were some silly calls over the course of the game (tickytack on Haywood's pick, the Kidd foul on Manu on a scramble, blatant goaltending) - but none of that decided the game. They played without balls.
Just like this silly cooze.

I'm just wondering why the intensity wasn't there?
Why didn't the Spurs play with more intensity in Game 1? Didn't they know they have to capture HCA in order to win this series? How come Manu Ginobili scored the vast majority of his points by the middle of the third quarter? Doesn't Manu understand this is the playoffs? How come Duncan couldn't bring them back when they were down 13? Doesn't Timmy understand this is the playoffs? How come Richard Jefferson was totally invisible? Didn't he understand the spurs need more than 1-4 shooting from him?
I thought Dirk went into God-Mode all playoffs long?
What does that even mean? What is "God Mode?" Who are all these people that said Dirk would never have a less than excellent game in the playoffs?
They constantly scoffed my prediction that this team would play just as inconsistently in the playoffs as they did during the regular season
And the Spurs were a paragon of excellence and consistency throughout the regular season and never had issues of their own not playing up to their capabilities. I disputed your prediction that the Spurs would win the series - I forget where I said Dallas would sweep and put the pedal to the metal in winning all games by 20+ points.

The Spurs Big Three MOST certainly did not show up in the fourth quarter of Game 1. They had those guys contained when Dallas broke the game open. Do you remember that or were you watching Project Runway at the time?

So a 1-1 series tie vindicates your claim that the Mavs are definitely going to lose in 6? I don't recall where I said the Mavs would roll the Spurs in 4. You will need the time to find that post.
If you want to talk about regular-season behavior continuing over to the playoffs, Jefferson and the entire supporting cast sucked dick in Game 1. Are they going to step up and play balls to the wall for every game in this series?

You keep using the Spurs to justify what the Mavericks do. I don't give a fuck about the Spurs or how they trend. I give a fuck about the Mavericks. All season long I saw a team play inconsistent as fuck, and a good portion of the time underachieve greatly. I saw lazy defense and lazy offense.

yes but haywood contests layups and rotates better and also is a bit more offensively sound than damp. So it was more pick ur poison type deal.

Also i thought carlile was pretty brave keeping haywood out there.... in that strech .. but i guess he wanted to see what haywood gives him. I think he knows now. Both coaches are willing to trust their team even at the expense of giving up games to find out what they have/dont have.

What the Spurs do and how they trend is relevant because the Mavs aren't playing against traffic cones set up on the court. The Spurs dropped turds alongside turning in some dominant performances in the regular season. And whaddaya know, they've done exactly that so far in the playoffs.
Also, I don't recall where I said the Mavs would become a 48 minutes a night juggernaut in the playoffs and roll the Spurs in a sweep. Can you find that post for me?
I said that trend would continue in the playoffs. You said the Mavs would step it up. So far I'd say the trend has continued
What trend was that? You said that the Mavs are front-runners who pack it in and quit when they face adversity. I don't give a shit about moral victories, but they cut an 11-pt lead to 1 in the first half and a 20-pt lead to 5 in the second half before being out-executed (Duncan shot 5/6 against Haywood in crunch time when Dampier is the much better option for checking him) down the stretch.
So where is this quitting tendency that has continued in the playoffs? You're not going to win a game where you shoot 36% from the floor, get outrebounded 51-42 and San Antonio shoots 8/15 from three (jump shots).

In G1, Duncan was 7/14 FGAs against Duncan and 5/6 against Haywood. G2 Duncan was 5/6 against Haywood in the clutch. I just think Damp is a better 1-on-1 option.
I like Haywood as a guy who comes in against second units or against Duncan after Timmy has had to bang with Damp and now has to guard Haywood. I don't necessarily like Haywood on the floor guarding Duncan in the final 4-5 minutes of a game.

I said this in the game thread and want to know Mavs fans pov. It seems like Haywood SHOULD be able to defend Duncan, and actually forces him into tough shots. The only thing being, Duncan takes tough shots against Haywood and makes all of them, while he takes easier shots against Dampier and misses more.
For some reason there is some inverse relationship where being guarded by Haywood actually makes him a better basketball player than he is against Dampier, with no attribution to the actual defense played by either of them.
Maybe he just sees that goofy ass face and it kicks him into another gear, I don't know.

Dampier generally is better at preventing Duncan from setting up closer to the basket in the low post than he would like. He's also much more physical and has played I don't know, 50-some odd games against the Spurs since joining the Mavs in 2005. I think he knows Duncan's tricks and tendencies pretty well, whereas Haywood has only been seeing him twice a year.
