Sure, if he'd take the MLE.

Impossible thought it may be, I would take him in a heartbeat if he took the MLE. Much as Spurs fan likes to hate on the guy and talk shit about him, Dirk Nowitzki is one hell of a player.

Being a Mav is a potentially fixable character defect.

If we're going to give the MLE to someone, however, I'd rather take LeBron.

I don't understand spurs fans obsession over the MLE. Seriously, why does everybody bring it up to describe solutions for every possible free agent opportunity?

Lebron's a FA? Sweet, let's see if we can snag him for the MLE.

Let's give nowitzki the MLE and call it a day!

Hey, let's get splitter over here for the MLE (this one is at least feasible)

Sup guys, Bosh for MLE!

Are you guys just...ignorant? I don't understand.

What on earth makes some of you guys think that the best player in the N.B.A. (lebron...seriously, lebron for 5M and change?) is going to settle for 1/3 to 1/4 of what he deserves to make?

Dirk to the spurs would be about 10 times more lopsided than gasol to the lakers.

We understand that there is no way Dirk will take the MLE but stranger things have happened in search for a ring i.e. Payton & Malone taking huge pay cuts to lose with Lakers.

You may not realise that realistically speaking, Cuban will never trade with us - even if there is option for sign-and-trade. As such, the only way is for Dirk to be a free agent. We are over the cap and only able to use MLE and hence, the obsession with MLE.

If we are under the cap and are able to fork out a max contract, I will say give it to LeBron or Bosh easily. The thing is we don't have that luxury.

Not taking our cap situation into account, I will say no to Dirk if we have Bosh. Dirk is a great offensive player but he is 31 already. We need younger players here as we move to transit to rebuilding.

Dirk coming off the bench with Manu would be awesome.

Hell, start RJ, Hill, Blair, Dice and Bonner and bring Tim, Manu, Tony, Dirk and Tiago Splitter off the bench.

Fuck yeah.....that would easily give the Spurs one of the top 3 benches in the league.

ambchang
04-22-2010, 10:40 PM
I would take Dirk for anything under 4 years, $15M a season, but even that is much less than what he'd get in the open market.

Nowitzki, Duncan and Splitter would dominate the league, easy.

yes, but only for 2 reasons.

Dirk would bring back love from the refs that was lost after Duncan ran over Jack Nies and then laughed at Joey Crawford and got him suspended.

Signing Dirk would put us back in the good graces of the refs.....and we would lead the league in FT attempts. We would lead the league in FTA after bogus or nonexistent fouls....but who cares.....cause at least the refs would love us again.

There is a Catch 22 though.....Dirk's FT % drops to 72%.

The other reason, and another poster mentioned it........just to give Cuban a huge case of the red ass.....I want to see him turn redder than yosemite sam, with smoke shooting out of his ears.

Dirk's never going to leave a team that's built itself around him for over a decade, and we're never going to have the money for 4 franchise-quality players. That said, only a total pendejo would pass on the guy if they could afford it -- he's an amazing ball player and a fucking match-up nightmare playing at the top of his game.

The MLE can be split among multiple FAs. I say why stop at nowitzki, let's snag dirk, lebron, and wade for the MLE.

Can anybody project what our lineup would be with nowitzki, lebron, and wade?

I'm thinking we would probably start RMJ at the point and bring wade and nowitzki off the bench to provide a much needed spark. We might start lebron, but not until he's proved that he can be a decent player.

Dirk is not going to go for the money if he signs with another team dummy....either he re-signs with the Mavs or takes less to sign with a contender. If not the Mavs my bet is he signs with the likes of LA or where ever Lebron goes...that's what I would do if in his shoes. Imagine if Cavs just adding Dirk this off-season...that team would win 70+ games and sweep it's way to a ring

Heck I would do a sign and trade for Parker (and anyone on Spurs not named Blair) if needed - a starting line up of Dirk, Duncan, Hill, Jefferson and Manu is a hell of a great start and Spurs great at finding great role playes around that.

He ain't goin anywhere. He just wants to play cuz he loves the game. And Dallas is the only city he really knows. He's said a ring doesn't make or break your career, in spite of what most of you dipshits on here think.

If the Spurs had a chance to sign Dirk I think they would do it without even thinking about it. He's a great player that presents all kinds of matchup problems because of his length and skill. It would be dumb not to sign a player like that.

I hate him right now because he is playing for Dallas. Other than that I have no hatred towards him. I cannot stand Cuban, Terry, Dampier, Barea, & Najera.
