Manu will play in game 4 there is no doubt in my mind. There are far worse injuries he could have right now so hopefully this is the worse he will go through.

Spurologist
04-24-2010, 12:04 AM
"Your doctor can give you some local anesthesia, reposition the broken bones into place, and then hold them in the right location with a “cast” made of plastic, plaster, or metal. This cast will then stay in place for a week. In the first two weeks after the injury, your doctor may offer you this kind of repair, or a similar approach using general anesthesia in the operating room."

From some medical site....main problem will be pain and fully breathing. He should be good to go with a mask sunday

emanueldavidginobili
04-24-2010, 12:04 AM
he did rush the medical staff, as soon as it stopped bleeding he ran out onto the court, they said it on ESPN.

:lol

Of course he wanted to play right after he stopped the bleeding. You don't think they were trying to stop it as quickly as possible? You make it sound as though he went out there and played in some kind of unsafe condition.

The worst thing that happens with a broken nose in an athletic sense is that you can't breathe as well. Boxers fight with broken noses and you think Manu wasn't going to go back in for medical reasons?

Dude. Chill out. Right, you can play. Right, it's not life-threatening. But just like a broken finger on the non-shooting hand, one has to be careful of not reinjuring it to where the healing would be incomplete and improper. There's like a 95% chance he will wear a mask if he plays. We need to hope it's a nondisplaced nose injury. Otherwise, he would need surgery right away.

No shit. But, as I said before, that's why he didn't let the medical staff look at him. They might not have let him back on because he ran the risk of getting it hit again and doing some real damage.

So a guy breaks his nose, he's having internal nosebleeds and trouble breathing. Then someone brings their elbow down on it again. Think there might be a problem?

I'm not saying Manu isn't fucking awesome. I'm saying they would have tried to keep him out if he had let them.

It was Marion. Duncan had a good postgame laugh at Manu's expense after that game as well:

"It looked pretty bad actually, it still looks pretty bad," Duncan said of Ginobili. "But ... it fixed his shot, so it might be the other eye on Monday."

Manu has been hit on the nose like 23423412352134123123 times during his basketball career. I'm shocked he actually broke his nose this time. He used to joke that his nose must be indestructible.

I'm not too concerned because Manu will definitely keep playing but a mask could hurt his jumper. Hopefully they allow him to play without a mask ... somehow.

Does a mask exist that anchors the nose in place but doesn't fit around the eyes? It seems like the hardest part of adjusting to a mask is the change in peripheral vision.

And it seems to be lost somewhere that Dirk got an and 1 on the play where he elbowed Manu (the replay shows that he caught McDyess on the chin with his other elbow). Shades of Karl Malone knocking Robinson literally unconscious with an elbow, only for the foul to be called on David as he lay on the floor?

Broken nose won't sideline Ginobili (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5133233)
ESPN.com news services

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili suffered a nasal fracture in Friday's Game 3 win over the Dallas Mavericks but will not need surgery and will play in Sunday's Game 4.

Ginobili caught an errant elbow from Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki in the third quarter and headed to the locker room leaving a trail of blood.

The Spurs forward returned later in the period and scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to push the Spurs to a 94-90 home win and a 2-1 series lead over second-seeded Dallas.

"I had no doubt that he was going to return," Spurs forward Tim Duncan said. "He has a strong nose on him."
