My 2 boys and I saw him at HEB plus at 281 and Evans. I didn't see who he was with, but he was guarding two carts of food near the seafood section. Didn't want to start a run on him with the autograph/photo request, he was just shopping like everyone else. I did tell him congrats on the nice game yesterday and wished him good luck for tomorrow. He smiled shyly and said "Thanks". It was cool that people were saying "hi" to him, but not really bugging him. :toast

I think a lot of players like SA for just that reason. There is no cult of celebrity associated with Spurs players. You feel that they're like a neighbor or a friend of a friend.

Yeah, but I had to laugh when my seven year old noticed a bag of chips in one of his carts and said as we walked away, "He likes chips just like us."

If I were famous I'd pay somebody to go so I wouldn't get mauled however, the Spurs are like someone said before a neighbor or a friend. So we show them respect and don't bother them when they are out too much. I met Horry once at a club and couldn't help myself I had to shake his hand. Lol.

Yeah I remember seeing Timmy at Costco over by UTSA and not going up to him but saying "Holy Shit it's Tim Duncan" out loud and he looked at me like "WTF?" haha, then i picked up my nephew and kind of told him he was looking at the greatest in the franchise history. Really memorable and funny moment i won't ever forget. :)

I was working at a club a few years ago (I won't name which!) and I met Timmy, Sean Elliott, Tony, Cherokee Parks (that dude is hilarious!), Devin Brown, Steve Smith and even Derek Fisher. I also asked Fisher if he was a Spurs fan. He said "No, I play for the Lakers." He's a lot shorter in person, I totally didn't recognize him.

Monty Williams used to live in the apartment next door to me. Bastard backed into my 300zx and vehemently denied it when I went over and confronted him about it. I was in my damn apartment and saw him friggin' do. His GF or wife answered the door and I said Monty backed into my car. Monty came to the door and was a total asshole. Denied he did it and asked if I knew who he was. He then goes on a rant saying he could by 10 of my cars or some shit like that. After lobbing a few verbal volleys at him he started to come outside and get into my face. About that time, his women told him to get back inside.

Needless to say, the asshole didn't pay for the damages and it would have basically been my word against his so I just paid for the damages myself.

Not to be negative, but I would have called the police as soon as I saw that it happened before going over to his place to confront him.

And yeah, he definitely is an a-hole for reacting like that. He has insurance too... he should have just manned up and admitted his wrong doing.

NBA career

Despite his outstanding stats at Seton Hall, questions about his attitude made him slip to the 7th pick of the 2001 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the New Jersey Nets. Griffin's draft rights were immediately traded to the Houston Rockets for Jason Collins, Brandon Armstrong, and the rights to Richard Jefferson.
In his rookie year during the 2001–02 season, Griffin played in 73 games (starting 24) while averaging 8.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.84 blocks per game (ranking 13th in the NBA in that category). He followed with another solid year in 2002–03, averaging 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.44 blocks per contest.
However, Griffin suffered from alcoholism, and his troubles piled up quickly over the following year. In December 2003, the Rockets released him after he missed practices and a team flight. Griffin signed with the Nets in January 2004, but missed the entire 2003-04 season when he entered an alcohol rehabilitation center.
Prior to the 2004–05 season, the Timberwolves signed Griffin to a one-year contract, and for that season he put up roughly the same numbers he had in his two previous seasons. The Timberwolves re-signed Griffin for three years (player option in the third), starting with the 2005–06 season. Griffin had a relatively significant drop off in scoring and rebounding (whilst suffering only a slight drop in minutes per game), while averaging a career-high in blocks per game (2.11).
In 2006, Griffin was involved a car accident in which he rammed his SUV into a parked car. He was allegedly watching pornographic videos and masturbating at the time of the incident. This came shortly after a stop-off at a nearby convenience store where a security video tape caught Griffin professing his intoxication.[4]
In March 2007, Griffin was released by the Timberwolves, who had grown tired of his attitude and off-court troubles. [5]

Death

Eddie Griffin died as a result of a car crash on August 17, 2007 at about 1:30 a.m.[6] Houston police said in a report that Griffin ignored a railroad warning and went through a barrier before striking a moving train. The resulting fire burned Griffin's SUV and the side of a railcar carrying plastic granules.[6] Griffin's body was badly burned and there was no initial identification. Dental records later revealed the man was Griffin. He had more than three times the legal alcohol limit in his system when he crashed, according to an autopsy report. The Harris County Medical Examiner's office said the 25-year-old Griffin died of "multiple blunt force injuries." The medical examiner's office performed tests on Griffin's bile and blood from his heart and liver and determined his blood-alcohol level was 0.26. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08. Tests found no traces of cocaine, barbiturates or any other narcotics.[7] Former Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey said he had not talked to Griffin in five or six months, but he knew that Griffin was spending the summer trying to get back in shape to play in Europe the next season.[8] He was buried in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.[9] He is survived by a 3-year-old daughter named Amaree.[10]

couple years back at the IHOP at 1604 and 281 I saw this NICE white mercedes in the parking lot. I opened the door to go inside and out of the corner of my eye saw someone behind me so i held the door open. I turned around to see Timmy, Holy ish is that guy tall. He was real cool, it was like 1:00 in the morning after a game and he sat a couple tables down, the whole place was empty. He had an omelette, it looked good i think it had ham in it.

What the fuck is this I always hear SA people seeing/meeting players everywhere. I live 10 minutes from DC/VA in MD and I NEVER see any players from any sports team here

I lived/worked in the DC Metro area for 15 years, and only saw one player, 7ft+ George Muresan at Pentagon City Mall. Believe me, he wasn't hard to spot.

I just think the DC Metro area (Northern VA, DC, Maryland) is just bigger with more secluded, gated communities. And the traffic out there is terrible, if I had any money, I'd probably send somebody to get my groceries etc.

I agree, plus you have like 10 million people in the metro area there. SA has less than 2 million, and almost all of the Spurs live on the Northside.

Ounce Steakhouse in Stone Oak is the spot for player sightings this year. Large groups of players and families in there all the time.

I used to work at Regal Northwoods movie theater back in 2002 and many spurs players would go there. But I will never forget the first time I saw Duncan.

I was the one who was ripping the tickets and would tell them where there theater is. Well it was a Saturday night and it was busy and there were long lines, I would have my head down most of the time just grabbing a ticket, ripping it and the people would be on their way.

Then i hear a familiar voice and i see a huge hand giving me a ticket, before even ripping it, i look up and timmy is chatting it up with amy and some friends and my jaw dropped. After a few seconds, i ripped the ticket, told him where the theater was, told him to enjoy his movie of course and i kept his ticket stub and i still have it haha!

I just looked at him as he walked into the theater (he watched the Sum of all Fears) and i was ignoring the next person in line. It was great
