On other note - these guys got out here fast - what in the world takes Dirk so long?

It's the Zen Master playing his mind games.

Well that's what I thought when I first heard it, but then I thought maybe I had missed something. So that's Phil's way of criticizing the refs, without coming right out and saying something. He thinks he's so smart. :rolleyes

What's there to say? His team just got prison fucked on national television. Free throw defense? How about some REGULAR FUCKING DEFENSE, Phil? OKC fucking OWNED the paint on both ends.

Crookshanks

Boy these are lame questions. What a waste of time. And this has to be the stupidest question of all: did you expect to go back to LA tied 2-2? They asked both Kobe and Fisher that question. How stupid can you get - but at least Kobe and Derek put the idiot reporters in their place.

Thunder shot 42-48 FT while Lakers shot 17-28? How do you get +20 FT attempt advantage? It was weird when the Mavs had +20 on the Spurs in Game 1, and it's weird here, too.

Holy shit, 48 free throw attempts?! Is the Thunder the new Miami Heat?

NewJerSpur
04-25-2010, 12:17 AM
The Thunder did shoot a rather large amount of FT's, but they truly were the aggressors from start to finish. They were slashing to the basket and active on the boards while the Lakers were shooting jumpers and trying to keep OKC in check with physicality which backfired.

Why can't Phil just say, "we got our asses handed to us, we will need to play much better in the coming games if we are going to get past this young and hungry team"??

He used 80 seconds out of his 90 second interview to be a damn victim. What a fuckin pussy. How about you call out your team for playing like shit and getting out hustled (the out hustled part is not up for argument). I know other coaches who call their team out with great success.

NewJerSpur
04-25-2010, 12:53 AM
Phil's got to plant his seeds for the next game or he wouldn't feel like he was doing his job.

Drachen

I feel like this will backfire, and yes I know that he has been doing this his whole career, it just seems like THIS time his act is getting real real old.

You dance with who brung you. He's been doing it one way successfully for 25 years. This is no harry high school horseshit. It's business, big f'in business. F'k the Thunder. The ft discrepancy is a red flag that Phil can utilize rightfully.

Giuseppe

He's got no other choice. The discrepancy is his best strategery public wise. You don't dress down Kobe Bryant and that bunch in public. I'm sure he will in private and they'll filter it thru to the MSM, but, the ft is easy and apparent and "right". He/Lakers are owed now. It's the nature of the beast. It's the way the table has been set since forever.

NewJerSpur
04-25-2010, 01:06 AM
Knowing Phil, if he thought he had a leg to stand on with the FT's he'd be a bit more direct with his indirectness....if that makes sense, LOL. The fact that he tried to pass it off as a freudian slip is an indirect giveaway that his team got their asses handed to them, but he still wants to make sure the calls will be adjusted in LA.

Drachen
04-25-2010, 01:07 AM
I guess you are right, I mean, its delusional to think that the FT discrepancy is responsible for a 25 pt victory, but I guess he cant learn anything new so he has to go with what he has always done. Just continue to stay the course.

yeah phil wanted to explode but he had that stern warning on his mind. that doesnt mean he didnt give hints of his displeasure. saying they have to play better freethrow defense was a dead giveaway.

free throw defense is yet another classic Phil line.

Free throw defence is a well-known expression used by dozens of coaches before tonight and means that your team was lousy making their free-throws.

How the heck are basketball fans that dont' know the expression and think it's an indirect? Geez...

mogrovejo
04-25-2010, 03:42 AM
The Lakers shot 60% from the line. That's obviously horrible. That's what PJ meant by OKC's "FT defense". It's a jab at his team lack of accuracy making freebies.
