Report: Stoudemire to re-sign with Suns » (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/knicks/2010/04/report-stoudemire-to-re-sign-w.html)
By Frank Isola
A report that Amar'e Stoudemire is working on a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns is more bad news for the free agency-or bust Knicks.
Stoudemire told Fanhouse.com he is working on a new deal and you have to think that should the Suns advance to the second round - a virtually certainty - that Stoudemire will return.
The problem with pursing big-time free agents is that the home town team almost always has the advantage. Manu Ginobili already re-signed with San Antonio and Marcus Camby re-upped in Portland.
If Stoudemire does return to Phoenix, there is a good chance that either Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer will end up in Miami. It also means the chances of David Lee returning to the Knicks increases, although the sense is that Donnie Walsh doesn't want to spend more than $10 million per season on Lee.
Again, look on the bright side. LeBron still hasn't re-signed with Cleveland. Not yet.

I wonder if that was written before Roy showed up :hat

I wouldn't get your hopes up DoK. He's asking for a max contract, and I don't even have a draft pick to sell.

Get this done Kerr. Once Amare gets his extension you'll have earned yours. I want both Amare and Kerr to stick around, but if Kerr lets Amare leave I'm not sure how I'd feel. The other big test for Kerr is Lou Amundson. He's not the player you give long term money to, his flaws are getting exploited by Portland like no other. If some other team offers him long term money then the right move is to not match and let him leave. Thinking realistic Frye and Amundson probably get contracts that outweigh their value while GHill will pick up his option.
This off season should be the next step to moving this team closer to a traditional defensive team. Amundson should be replaced by a larger role for Earl Clark, Barbosa should be replaced by an athletic perimeter defender who knows his role, and Frye should be replaced by a traditional interior defender (Kurt Thomas resigning for cheap is ideal).
Sidenote: Not sure how they would do this, but I'd be willing to trade any combination of players not named Amare or Goran to get Evan Turner in the draft :lol

If the Suns let Amare get away, they are fools.

Stoudemire's Agent: Contract Talks Will Wait Till Playoffs Are Over

Alan Hahn spoke with Amaré Stoudemire's agent who indicated that discussions with the Suns on a contract extension are currently on the back burner.
"Nothing will happen or even be discussed until the playoffs are over," Happy Walters said, because Stoudemire "is 100 percent focused on winning."
On an unrelated note about this summer's free-agency, Hahn reports that "more people in the NBA believe there is a greater chance that Joe Johnson stays in Atlanta than LeBron James stays in Cleveland."

'cause they have a very promising young team that could win you some championships in the future.

You say the Thunder need a banger down low who blocks shots and then cite Carlos Boozer as an example?

That doesn't nearly outweigh the fact he'd be living in Oklahoma City.

where else would he go to be competitive and still be "the man"? i don't think he really has too much of a choice if he wants to remain on a competitive team

I think the meth business is also a strong point for OKC.

Good decision by the Suns. Now they should trade their veterans this off-season.

If you're a professional basketball player, "to play for the Thunder" seem an excellent reason for me. It seems Durant and their crew are pretty happy there.

I had a friend do so, but it's because Dell shut down their support center in Twin Falls Idaho and he had to move to OKC to keep his job. Poor bastard.
