I'd love to meet some of these magical 'clean' mexicans you have in SA.
All the ones up here are really filthy and stink like gas and refried beans and their fat squaws smell like pledge.
You are a true fucking moron man. What a way to stereotype FFS. This is like referring to the way some rednecks live in trailers and then say every one of them is like that.
This also makes my point about being a public figure. You can come here and say this kind of shit and everything is fine. Mike Bacsik can't. Thanks for making my point shithead.

Was it about the officiating or about this same thing regarding the hispanic community here? Can you give a brief summary of what the discussion was about.

His frustration shouldve been directed at something basketball related, not race related. I wouldve understood if he talked shit about Spurs players or cried about the officiating but there's no justification for going the way he went. When Im drunk/frustrated I dont belittle black or white people it doesnt work that way. Racism should be a thing of the past especially in the media.

I would he highly surprised if The Ticket made any mention of it, aside from a quick on-air apology from Bacsik. They tend to not bring things like this to light. He's not on air today, and is probably on some type of suspension until this blows over. I doubt he'll be fired over this, but I don't think he'll be back until well after the series is over.

Exactly the point.
Public insults of an ethinc group is never a good thing. Whatever racist views he espouses privately should have never been publically aired on social media. He should have directed his venom toward his team, coaches, even the referees - where it belongs.

Today on the same station, The Ticket "DAN MCDOWELL" from BAD RADIO had this to say:
"Get rid off Eddie Najera, they already have one MEXICAN player for their hispanic community in JJ BAREA. They dont need anymore."
Sounds like they took the bashing of Mike Bacsik personal. Their whole show today was about bashing Barea & Najera and unfortunately both are hispanic.
Before anyone starts a bunch of phone calls and emails about that, don't bother. Consider that Dallas station is full of guys and shows that use Hispanic stereotype humor routinely. It's nothing new and has been approved by the station I guess.
It's funny, pretty much ALL of their shows from the morning drive till the drive home (Hardline) do it EXCEPT for Norm's show (the one Mike Bacsik produced). It's acceptable there. I guess if it's on the air, it's been cleared as a "joke", just don't tweet it I guess. :-)

Fans of the shows on that station just accept that it's Ok to make statements like this.
If you like the comedian, the show, or whatever, you are probably 100% convinced that it's just schtick (sic). Nothing more. Say the most inappropriate thing and it's funny because who in their right mind say that? You lean one way, then do a 180 and go the other way.
If you like the show, it's schtik. If you don't, you're offended. Whatever the community does, how they react, determines which it is: joke or offensive.
I think the suspension is appropriate. Enough punishment to (hopefully) make him consider his actions, without completely ruining his livelihood. The guy may be a racist dumbass, but that doesn't necessarily means he deserves to be standing in the unemployment line.

what bacsik said was completely inappropriate and he should be punished but lay off the radio station. It's by far the best sports radio station in the country.

I worked on the station in the mid-late 90's and did a lot of stuff for the Rant, Musers and Hardline. They have the best sports station in the country and they basically have Gordon to thank...the guy is a genius.
That said, Bacsik is a spare and I wouldn't mind seeing him go. Maybe they can coerce Fredo to come back...

You say its not racist so let's look at it another way. Suppose he was talking about a black player ata time when there were not alot of black players in the game. It would look like this.
"Get rid off (any name), they already have one black player for their black community in (any name). I think when you look at it that way it looks pretty racist to me.
You may have a point.
But you don't.
Not regarding this. I listened to what Dan said and I have to say....the knucklehead above paraphrased it to sound racist. He went Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton hearing something that isn't there.

Time to move on.
Dan didn't say that.
Bob was going off about Najera about how ridiculous it was to foul Manu, and Dan said something like, "We already have one undersized, high energy Mexican, we didn't need another one that can't do anything"
but it was a passing thing
During e-news Corby was talking about a celeb who was "twittering over the weekend, which we have found out is a really bad idea, ...." and went on with his story. lol
Awesome he got suspended, what a bitch.
The Ticket makes fun of everything not just mexicans though. There aren't any sacred cows. It's impossible to describe the station to anyone who has not listened at least a week straight. It's not even a real sports station, its like 50% entertainment non sports.
I used to scoff the shit outta the Ticket until I lost a bet and had to listen for a week. It sucks you in. But its not constant racial remarks, its very abrasive on all fronts.
Best radio station in the country.
Other than corby noone mentioend a word about it, especially Norm. He started out his show saying he did not want to hear one complaint about the refs.
If I'm not mistaken, Mike Bacsik has a big-time SA connection -- he was an ace pitcher for the Trinity Tigers back in the early '70's.

Agree. It really is great radio, nationally recognized too, it competes amazingly with the big boys (Chicago, New York ,L.A., etc.) which has gigantic budgets compared to the little ticket I'm sure.
First time I heard it was 1998. Driving to work, new to the city. And on that day, I heard, of course, the Mexican stereotype crap. Something about leaf blowers or something. I was so damn offended, I palced the call and was on hold forever, didnt get on air. A month later, I couldn' get enough of it and was a loyal listner for the next 11 years.
Like I said, if you like it, it's schtik. I like their shows, so, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
BUT...
How do you really know if some of them aren't really racists hiding behind schtik? This Mike guy, had he said it on radio, it wouldve been just another thing like that people say on the radio. But he said it off air and when he was pissed. How many people are racists hiding behind an act that allows it?

SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket has won many awards over the years. Among them, is the 2007 Marconi Award for "Best Sports Station in America" at the National Association of Broadcasters' annual conference on September 27, 2007.
The best part of the The Ticket is the don't just blindly support the home team. Jr. Miller loves the Spurs and Mike Rhyner picked the Spurs over the Mavs and has expressed his admiration for the Spurs on many occasions. Some of them are homers, but there is a good balance.

IMO nothing. I believe that everyone to a certain extent is a racist.
But as a member of the media you have a responsibility to act as a role model. I bet Tim Duncan is a racist (maybe not a BIG one)... but you don't see him running around calling people dirty mexicans. There's a time and a place for that kind of behavior and its not on live radio with a live audience tuning in.

Yeah..who are you talking about when you say yall? Mexicans? First of all, most of the people in San Antonio aren't Mexicans, we're Mexican-American. That is to say, Americans of Mexican descent. Mexicans are people born in Mexico. You don't call black people Africans do you? So why call us Mexicans? Either way, as a Mexican American, yes I was offended. This goes a lot further than Spurs vs. Mavs. He insulted an entire race. It was inappropriate. There would be a bigger backlash had he said " Congrats to the smelly black people" or "Congrats to the chicken eating black people" or if he was black and said "Congrats to the trailer park white trash". For some reason, making fun of hispanics seems to be more accepted and that's bullshit. I'm glad he lost his job. The difference between him and the people here is that he gets paid to do that and is listened to by thousands of people.

Blah, blah, blah...it was taken out of context. Basically, "we're" allowed to do this stuff all the time, it's typical for the station, but Bacsik's quote was taken out of context. Those on the "outside" don't understand. Drops are usually cut up to make the original speaker sound silly and awkward. Just your typical, soapbox, hypocritical horseshit from Gordon.
In what "context", Gordon, is someone saying Dirty Mexicans or truck full of Mexicans acceptable? They know damn good and well what they're doing and it's shameful that they're leaving Bacsik hanging out to dry, alone. Obviously, what he did was wrong, but it's taken 3 days for them to finally nut up and address this and now they're just spewing bullshit. And why is Gordon speaking up on this? Since when is he the mouthpiece for the station?

Norm Hitzges, the show upon which Bacsik worked, mentioned the firing this morning, off the top. He indicated that, while they understand the station's decision, the act itself IS NOT who Mike Bacsik is. Uh, I beg to differ. Unless it can be proven that his Twitter account was hacked, then it was Bacsik's choice to go racial with his anti-Spur, anti-ethnic rant.
As I said earlier, alcohol can be considered truth serum. If you're generally a mean-spirited type, then alcohol can turn you into a mean-spirited drunk. Bacsik's feelings and comments are his and his alone. The alcohol consumption apparently allowed them to surface. He made his bed, now he's got to sleep in it. He now has to endure the embarassment that his comments have caused him and his family.
Besides, we have 3 sports talk stations in the metroplex. After this blows over, I'm sure he'll land somewhere else.

Local sports is the only thing they specialize in. Even then, they put this at the number 2 spot on their agenda.
Life, pop culture, comedy etc take first place. ESPN has national sports by the balls. We don't need Yankees, Red Sox, or Giants stats 24/7...we don't need another ESPN, that's what makes this station so popular.

This might just be me, but if there are a truck full of Mexicans driving by, you should be able to say "Hey look at that truck full of mexicans driving by!"
Also, in the context of this series, Eduardo Najera has been a dirty mexican.
People are too freakin' sensitive. But in Mike B's case, he fvcked up big time and the punishment he got is what he got.

This might be just me, but if you think commenting on a truck full of Mexicans and calling a city a bunch of dirty Mexicans is the same thing then I should be able to call you a fucking idiot.
You're a fucking idiot.

You can say whatever you want or have whatever opinion you want. However the radio station is a business and if they determine that this guy could hurt their bottom line or effect's their image, which could effect their bottom line, then they have every right to fire this guy. It's no different than the sponsors getting rid of Tiger Woods because of his adultery. Or countless other athletes with their legal troubles.

Don't know if this is direct at me, but if it is, I was making no such corelation. Mike B. fvcked up big time and got fired for it.

Which is why I said that Mike has to take his punishment accordingly, he fvcked up.

It sounded like you don't agree with the decision or understand why it was dealt. You stated it as fact what he got, and didn't attach any of your own opinion, however you began as "people are too sensitive", which implies you don't agree with the outcome.

Made sense to me. I think it's still a hot button issue, though, so anybody seen even REMOTELY going to bat for the guy is bound to get their (hood-covered) head bitten off.

The part that didn't make sense was equating what he did with some non existing offense at a truck full of Mexicans being called a truck full of Mexicans. Since when is that really an issue? If you think he fucked up then whey come into this thread and talk about people being too sensitive. It doesn't make any sense unless you feel that this was a case of people overreacting.
I don't remember the last time someone got fired for saying a truck full of Mexicans was a truck full of Mexicans so maybe you can refresh all of our memories.
Its not that people are too sensitive, its that we have too many idiots like this asshole running around.

Pretty unfortunate comments from Bacsik. As a Spurs fan in Dallas I listen to the Ticket (folks, this is the original one here) all the time and Bacsik is usually pretty good on the radio. He's a former MLB pitcher and Ive never heard this stuff from him before. Im sure he will catch hell but I hope this is a one time "aww shit" moment and he gets to keep his job..
at times they are funny ... but I do listen to Dallas sportstalk and the guys on the Ticket seem to cross the line the most. they make racist and gay "observations" all the time.
in context, I don think they are mean-spirited AND they also call out white guys as well ...

Ok
People are too sensitive, in the sense that someone on the street should be able to say "There goes a truck full of mexican's!" If a truck full of mexicans go by.
In Mike's case, what he said was racist, and stupid, and he shouldn't have said it in the forum he said it, and he go what was coming to him. He has a reclaimation project ahead of him, that's for sure.

You should be able to and you CAN say that is a truck full of Mexicans. Please stop equating the two.
Tell me, when was the last time someone lost a job over calling a truck of Mexicans a truck of Mexicans?

I was just quoting the dude, why you being so sensitive?
If the truck is full of Mexicans, why can't I call it a truck full of Mexicans? Just stating facts. :lol
Now congratulating the "dirty Mexicans of San Antonio" over a Spurs win is stereotyping the city of San Antonio and derogatory to the Mexican race. Sucks, but the dude got his comeuppance.
If you still don't see the difference, try throwing some racial slurs around your next meeting at work and see how it flies.

I am huge Spurs fan, but The Ticket is pure greatness. Sports radio stations all over the country have tried to mimic what they have unsuccessfully. There are a ton of inside jokes, bits, and schtick that go on that outsiders just don't understand.
Hell, it took me almost 2 years of listening to it to "get it."
What Bacsik said was completely inappropriate and he should be punished but lay off the radio station. It's by far the best sports radio station in the country.
By far the best. The Ticket has 1/10th the radio signal, but 3 times the ratings as ESPN and The Fan. My WIFE is even a P1.
What Bascik tweeted was offensive. It was also offensive that he was drunk, belligerent, and cursing all over the place. It's not professional, and the racial comment in anger was the icing on the cake. You can't just act like a jackass on Twitter with no repercussions.
What The Ticket does is pure genius. Racial humor is funny, especially when no one is spared. The "black man roundtable" was funny. "Gay or Not Gay" is funny. "Ladies' Day" is funny. Fake Jerry, Wade, and Irvin are funny.
The funniest character they do on their show is "Kris Kris", the Ed Hardy wearing, uptown living, $30,000 millionare who acts like he's rich and is banging chicks left and right, but is really is living a fake life. Guess what? They're making fun of the white, uptown Dallas doucher you typically see here. And we all laugh, because it's funny.
There IS a difference in what Bascik said and what The Ticket does.

I think racial humor is some of the funniest things around. I like George Lopez, Chris Rock, Don Rickles, etc, etc... I joke around with my friends and family. That's ok and what I considered in bounds... It's when you say it to a bunch of people you don't know or make a broad generalization about a certain group of people public, is where you get into trouble. Here's a suggestion to jab San Antonioians, You Big Red drinking mf'ers! There, that's funny but it's not overly insulting or attacking a certain ethnicity, religion or gender. It's funny because we all know people from San Antonio drink Big Red and listen to 80's hair metal... :lol Haha. Go Spurs Go!

Mike B's termination was decided by Cumulous Radio's management (which is not in Dallas). All of the Ticket personalities really distanced themselves from the decision and were hesitant to talk about it in some cases.
Bascik was drunk, tweeted a stupid comment during the game or shortly thereafter, and lost his job by making a really bad decision. Out of town corporate types washed their hands of the matter by dumping him within two days. Harsh punishment for sure.
The ticket in Dallas (am 1310) goes down all kinds of insensitive paths all the time, but I guess the context is considered different.
BTW
All the letters to the editor in the Sunday Dallas Morning News re: Mavs meltdown BLAMED THE REFS. Some things never change.
