View Full Version : Dirk Nowitzki's last game as a Maverick?

I know this guy takes a lot of heat for his shortcomings in his career but there is no doubt that he is one of the best shooters/players in the world. In addition to being incredibly humble, couple that with unbelievable talent and one of the funniest guys in sports overall if you ever hear/watch him interviewed or in practice.

So once he wakes up and realizes that even though he's been a Mav for all his professional career.. the one thing that most players want which a championship.. Dirk will realize that it's never going to happen if he's in a Dallas uniform.

Nowitzki is scheduled to make $21.5 million next season, but opting out this summer would allow him to sign another long-term contract before the league's collective bargaining agreement expires in the summer of 2011.

So the question remains... which team is most apt to sign him once he truly does opt out of his contract this summer?

Here are some accolades of Nowitzki's career:
2007 NBA MVP
23 ppg overall for career
9 time all star
Made all NBA team 9 times
2006 3pt shootout champion

Now.. the failures he's endured as a Dallas Maverick:
First MVP in 20 years to not advance 2nd round in the MVP year (2007)
Part of a current Dallas team that has a streak of 50+ wins for 10 years, yet has failed to win a championship.
Won 1st two games of the 2006 NBA finals before losing 4 straight to eventual champions Miami Heat.

The longer he stays in Dallas, the more his career will take him down the path of Stockton, Malone, Reggie Miller, Gervin, Ewing, etc

Without a ring

Remember Dirk, as long as you're in this http://yimbou.com/nba/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Dirk_Nowitzki_4a80c1a40f4bb.jpg

son he is a good player there is absolutely no doubt about that, but he's not a legit first option. I have said it before and will say it again ... the ONLY hope Dirk has of EVER winning a NBA championship is whenever he is about 38 years old, signed for the league minimum, and cheering from the bench while the brotha's win him a title.

That's why he'd be an awesome fit for the spurs. Mentor Blair's jump shooting

I always wondered what a Duncan and Dirk front line would do to the NBA. Even at their current age.

Damn, Dirk was probably the best player to be bounced from the playoffs!

Dirk could change his legacy if he actually went on a good team and got them a championship. I'd say he should bolt. The ship (Dallas Mavericks) is sinking here and he could easily put another team over the top.

If he were to bolt.. where would he go? Would he be able to make any of the teams with cap space an instant contender?

Legacy < Dollars

Dirk's legacy is unjustified anyway due to the collective whistles of Salvatore and Crawford.

Much as I'd like to see Dirk Leave Dallas and go to team that has a better chance to win a title (and to leave Cuban crying), he won't. He'll probably stay in Dallas due to some sense of loyalty and for the dollars. The loyalty thing I half get, but if he really wants to win, he'll take a paycut. But he won't. It's about the money. It's not wrong for it to be about the check, but no one will admit it because most sports fans can't handle that kind of truth.

Those whistles are because of Cuban.

Cuban will redo Dirks contract to stay, book it. He's going to blow this team up. Just keep Dirk, Haywood, Roddy, and Butler.

he already has probably 40+million in the bank (unless hes a retard) and will still make tens of millions elsewhere.

depends on if he really wants to win or just wants a couple more millions in the account.

Dirk lost spent half of his money on a crackwhore. He needs the 21 million meaning another season of seeing this faggot shoot jumpers and flop to 10 FTs a game. LOL "Best European player in history", that's all he will ever be known for.
