Does anyone feel like this victory was 4 years in the making? We've won a championship and had some good times since 2006 but one thing I still desperately needed was one more series win against Dirk and the Mavs by the Spurs in the Duncan era.

Just a great feeling tonight.

It was great to see the mavs lose to a finally somewhat healthy Spurs team!

No. Winning it all in '07 more than atoned for '06 for me (even though that lost opportunity does stick in my craw a little). You know what this felt like? A healthy team putting a cocky, overconfident team full of punks (save Dirk) in its rightful place. Just another first round series win for us, another choke from dallas. Truthfully, nothing to see here.

Feel free to use it; I figured it'd be a theme that could be used for the duration of the playoffs (since there's no need for revenge against the Suns :lol).

I had the EXACT same thought over the course of this series and absolutely feel this series win was a long-overdue score that needed to be settled.

From the perspective of a Spurs fan living in the metroplex, all I ever heard from Mavs fans, and even some players who had been around during the Avery regime, was a sense of false bravado. Publically, they made claims that they weren't too concerned about the Spurs because they had built to beat them and so much recent success against them. However privately, they desparately wanted and were jealous of the success the Spurs have had throughout the decade.

It was nice to beat the Mavs after 2006. That series really hurt.

With the Spurs, it's Championship or bust. I don't really think revenge plays into it. If the Spurs don't win another ring, they still tie with the Mavs for last place.

It hurt tremendously because that probably the Spurs best shot to repeat as NBA champions. Time has viewed that Miami Heat championship team as one of the weaker ones in recent history. There's no question in my mind that had the Spurs prevailed past the Mavs in that epic Game 7 series, they would've taken out the Suns - again - and went on to win their second consecutive NBA title.

Dallas went on to lose to the 2 seed Miami in the Finals. If we move ahead and beat the 2 seed Orlando in the Finals, it will be just about perfect symmetry. Other than that, it's always good to flip off Mark Cuban.

looks like an idea. I assume you posted this in the theme thread?

I don't see much of a revenge for 2006 thing here. Afterall, Tim, Tony and Manu are the only ones who were around in 06. Beating the mavs is certainly sweet, but at the end of the day I'm sure the Spurs approach is one of just trying to win the next game.

If the Mavs had won the championship, maybe. The Spurs let an opportunity get away from them in 2006 that they can never get back. Winning a first round series doesn't take the sting out of that.

I agree. Good take. The year we lost to the Lakers (0.4) We had a pretty good chance IMHO.

A Spurs Magic final would be awesome considering they are my two favorite teams. But the Spurs come first for me.

I don't see this year that way. As of about 3 weeks ago, people were saying they were going to miss the playoffs. Now, not only did they not miss them, they advanced out of the first round. It's like when you go to the casino to play blackjack. You get up $100, and you put your money away. From that point, you're playing with house money. That's exactly what the Spurs are doing.

Love the Avatar......and I am totally down with them wearing the Hispanic Heritage jerseys if they said Espuelas instead of Los Spurs. IMO, using Los Spurs is as much a slap in the face to Hispanics as if they wore Da Spurs jerseys to represent Black Heritage.
