View Full Version : Spus/Suns Fans Can't Really believe they are championship contenders right?

Props to your teams first round wins, but any notion that these teams are championship caliber is laughable. The big men depth of blair, mcdyess, bonner and jarron collins, amare, frye simply will not get it done period. At the championship level, you need defense and rebounds and must control the paint. Neither of teams have done that at any point all year and the stats don't lie.

Playing above average defense for one round against mediocre teams, doesn't somehow vault you into defensive juggernaut status. Only teams who really play championship level defense and have proven such all year are orlando, cleveland, boston,la.

Spurs fans obviously don't believe it the way they've been nosin' that Suns ass since they ended the Mavs.

A leopard cannot change his spots, and a 19th ranked defense over the season isn't going to somehow evolve into a juggernaut overnight. The suns aren't sniffing a title with that defense.

What's a gd disgrace is having a bunch of children who barely qualified for the playoffs take two games from the #1 seed.

What you eggheads don't bother to realize is that the Thunder have ranked in the top 5 in defense all year long. So really, the thunder are actually better equipped than spurs/suns/jazz EVER could be because they actually play some defense. Suns and Jazz as good defensive teams is laughable. Spurs I will give some respect to because they were about 9th all year which is above average.

Championships are won in the paint, not on the perimeter. Suns/Jazz/Spurs are highly deficient in paint protection and rebounding. A big NO NO as far as title aspirations go. This has been proven over the last 20 years that you need defense and rebounding to win it all.

If we assume the Lakers make it to the Finals, the championship will be won on the perimeter because the Lakers have Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar, and Shannon Brown. Oh and Ron Artest.

Id rather have my role players and weakest liabilities at perimter positions than at front court positions. Bonner,Blair,Mydyess,Collins,Amare,Frye not one of these guys could guard a red cone used for DMV driving tests.

Dice is fine on defense. Did very well on Dirk, who is a better shooter than anyone the Lakers have. I have a hard time seeing Gasoft or Andrea post up McDyess effectively. He's too strong to allow them to manhandle him. Bonner sucks but that's nothing new. Good luck with Deron Williams :lol

kwamay_brown54
04-30-2010, 01:05 PM
You really going to want Mcdyess to try guarding either odom/bynum for 40 minutes a night? Dude will be fouling out by the 1st half with that strategy. Once Mcdyess is out, than its either blair/bonner/manhinmi and that is where the game will be lost for your team.

lakers will probably make the finals, but the beatdown will be so severe that it won't even be considered close

If they face Queen James than yeah I agree. It will be a bloodbath, mostly a red carpet parade to the free throw line. If its celtics/magic we could get a fantastic series and probably 7 games either way.

Sadly the OP is probably right. The Bynum-Pau matchup could really overwhelm both front lines. Playoff McDyess has been different to regular season McDyess, but hes gonna have a battle with Bynum around the rim. Dont think Pop can go with Bonner, he just hasnt shown the ability to knock down shots consistently in the playoffs, and he's not even a wildcard anymore - you know what your going to get - not much.

I was impressed with Ibaka and the way he he used is athleticism around the rim, and his abiity to score some, so i would be really interested to see what Mahinmi could do, but no way he will see any meaningful minutes.

Blair could be a real X-Factor, if he can be physical and rough up Odom and Pau, he could make an impact, but its gonna be tough.

EmptyMan
05-01-2010, 02:57 AM
I too think the Spurs are too small to win a championship. :depressed

The fact that our guards can drive to the hole at will offsets it on offense, but we will be relying on Bonner and Blair for rotational defense. Soft and small.

Suns, Spurs, Jazz are contenders until they are knocked out. These douche bag fans like KWAMAY and Giuseppe think all their numbers and shit mean something. The games still have to be played quit being front running faggots and shut up. Spurs are contenders and nothing you say will make me think other wise. And if I was a Suns, or Jazz fans I'd think the same thing.

i don't think we're contenders. Blair is too inconsistent and inexperienced, McDyess would have trouble defending the bigs that LA has, and Duncan wouldn't be able to have 2-3 bad games in a series versus LA, Magic, or the Cavs. obviously, the Spurs see enough of a hole there to want to sign Splitter for next season. so they no it's a problem.

it'll be extremely difficult for the Spurs to beat LA, let alone the Magic or Cavs, assumming they get past the Suns.

Giuseppe

Mingus, tossing the towel prematurely? Sad to see, youngster.

Ostensibly we're built to end you, but, anything can happen. Pop has great stature with NY and the refs. If one guy (not of the usual suspects) blows up you're close.

i'm not tossing the towel. there's still a glimmer of hope left in me, and as long as that is there, no towel has been tossed. stating the reality of the situation has nothing to do with giving up on them. the Lakers are simply better. they're supposed to beat the Spurs, as are the Magic and Cavs. yet, the Mavs were supposed to as well, so you never know what can happen. another thing is that this team, imo, is still (even at this stage of the season) a work in progress. as well as they've been playing it's seems like their last good game has been the best one they've played, esp. as far as defense is concerned. that it somewhat hard to rank this team. guess we'll have to wait and see.

Like someone else mentioned this morning: Manu has begun to drift again. The nose thing is a hindrance. Not able to breath correctly thru it. Not able to blow it. Not able to pick it. Not able to give it a good rubbing & bending side-to-side. You can bet he's on a strong pain killer as well.
