Much has been made of Phil Jackson's 45-0 record in the playoffs when his team wins Game 1. At first, that sounds incredible, but when you realize his playoff runs have been with the Jordan Bulls and the Kobe/Shaq and Kobe/Gasol Lakers, who usually had a top seed and home court advantage, it just makes sense. I wonder what PJ's playoff record is when his team LOSES Game 1.

They won't make the finals this year

It's just like the whole thing in 2006, "Phil Jackson has never lost in the first round!" as if the huge talent drop off the 2006 Lakers had compared to the other teams he's coached didn't matter.

Well, yes...PJ's teams are typically the best/most dominate in the league, that accounts for his astonishing record. Is there another explanation?

As an unbiased fan it looked good. They did look at replays after the shot too and still ruled it good.

Thats not too bad actually. I think on average 70% of teams lose when they lose game 1. Phil Jackson is only losing about 50% of the time.

But of course he has had 3 of the greatest players in NBA History, but it still takes some coaching ability to lead those huge egos.

The replay was ambiguous at best. Didn't matter in the end, though...the Lakers got assraped by Detroit in the Finals. I don't know if the Spurs could've beaten the Pistons that year. I think we would've lost that series in 6 games.

PJ is living proof that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Oh yeah, batting close to .500 when down a game in a series is pretty outstanding. Popovich has actually done better down 0-1 though, at 6-6.

I strongly disagree with that. The Lakers were like the Denver Nuggets before Jackson took over in 99-00. Tons of talent, but dumb as rocks and all looking like they were out for self.

Umm, I don't care who you have on your team...

A 45-0 series record after winning game one is amazing, regardless of who you have.
