I don't see why people are bitching about foul calls...7th seeds don't get calls for a reason. This is why HCA is so important, especially after the first round. We got lucky Dallas melted down despite all the calls they got...we won't be so lucky this time.

Quiet Strength
05-03-2010, 11:05 PM
Man I cant believe the lead is just 10 at the half... It sure feels like the spurs are down 30.

HarlemHeat37
05-03-2010, 11:05 PM
The score doesn't matter..Duncan looks horrible, which was also case towards the end of the series vs. Dallas..the Spurs have absolutely no chance if Duncan isn't playing like he needs to..he's the most important player on this team since he also has to rebound AND defend in addition to scoring..if he isn't doing that, like we saw in the 1st half, then the Spurs are going to get dominated in this series..the Spurs don't have another big man to help inside..

It's not like he's being defended by good players..Stoudemire and Frye are 2 of the worst defensive bigs in the NBA, and Collins is just a statue that has even less mobility than Duncan..

Spurs Brazil

When RJ comes off of screens and rubs he generally has an open path to the lane and makes things happen. Pop definitely has to pay attention to this more and his teammates have to try and go back to this, especially given all the attantion the Spurs are paying to the Big 3.

Calls aren't the problem in this game. There have been some missed both ways, but the Spurs have pretty much gotten what they have earned.

The problem is not finishing at the rim. If the Spurs make a few chip shots, this would be a 1-2 possession game, at the very worst. The zebras aren't missing those shots.

That disturbs me more than everything else put together. He looks like a deer in the headlights at the FT line, and he doesn't look like he wants to take the shot from the floor. Maybe his knee is more of a problem than we know. They wouldn't say anything if he's just hurting.

Foul calls have nothing to do with your seed and everything to do with not being aggressive.

Aggression definitely is a key factor but it is pretty easy to see that the home team usually gets the benefit of the doubt on close calls. Just look at game 6 of the Spurs-Mavs series as an example.

GSH
05-03-2010, 11:15 PM
oh and not to mention....the spurs really aren't playing that badly...

Duncan, Jefferson, McDyess, and Manu are a combined 6-18. Any worse than that and they would have to give some of their salary back.

DontStopBelieving

Agreed...a few Nash to Stoudamire pick and roll dunks to start the 2nd half will have Pop clearing the bench. I don't see this series going past 5 games if the Spurs can't defend the paint and rebound better than this.

Hey, you were the one already calling the series over in game 1 vs the Mavs..

I'm ready for TP to start. Makes too much sense on both ends of the court. TP is pretty good against Nash and Nash has no chance to defend TP.

Hill is a fish out of water when trying to defend Nash.
I think Pop will give Hill another shot to start the 2nd half, if it doesn't work out TP will start for the rest of the series.

I think Duncan's knees are more of an issue than we're told. It's a matter of severity on any given night, he can be okay one day and bad the next. Duncan, and the team, never play the injury card, we're not being told how he is day-to-day. We're getting the sound bites that he feels okay, and at that moment he may.

But I can't think of any other reason for his game varying so much in the Playoffs. This is his time of year, he just doesn't wuss out. If he's off there's a reason.

WE NEED ENERGY. What do I think the Spurs should do right now?

Start Tony.

If Timmy continues to struggle early in the 3rd, pull him for Blair. At least Blair will give us that rookie hustle.

Put the ball in Tony and Manu's hands. Manu seemed to pick it up in the 2nd. Tony seems to be doing fine when driving the the basket.

Release RMJ at halftime.

Also, I know this isn't popular, but how could Bogans help us in this series? Is it possible to put him on Nash?

Honestly I'm not worried about this game, mostly because we played like we should be down by 30 but are only down by 10. Once things even out, we'll end up down by 5 or 6 at some point in the game, and the game will be winnable. That's all you can ask for.

Up to making timely shots/stops at that point.

Is Hairston on the active playoff roster? I would much rather see him in there instead of Mason. He would be the best matchup against Richardson/Grant Hill.

George Hill just isn't big enough to guard either of them...plus he isn't quick enough to guard Nash. He may be able to guard Barbosa since he dribbles in straight lines but that is about it...
