DP: Who do you like in the Spurs-Suns series?
RM: San Antonio.
DP: The Spurs never go away. They’re the Freddy Krueger of the NBA. You turn around, and there they are again.
RM: And Phoenix has never beaten the San Antonio Spurs in a seven-game series.
DP: I think the Spurs should bring back Robert Horry just for this series.
RM: I don't think they're going to need Horry. [Manu] Ginobili is playing fantastic. Even though Tim Duncan struggled in that first-round series against the Mavs, I think they've found an emerging star in George Hill. I think DeJuan Blair is going to be huge in this series. It's the type of series he can thrive in because he's going to be going against smaller players. I see the Spurs winning this in six.

DP: Do you think Tim Duncan is one of the 10 best players of all time?
RM: No. But I would put him in the top 15, and that's saying a lot, obviously, but no, not 10.
DP: Because he's a power forward and didn't want to be listed as a center?
RM: He's a power forward. Now, if you would have asked me if he's the greatest power forward of all time ...
DP: OK, you can have Karl Malone, Kevin McHale, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird ... if you want to put Charles Barkley in there you can. So who you taking out of that group, if you can have first pick, starting a career?
RM: Kevin McHale.
DP: And then?
RM: Karl Malone.
DP: Wow, Malone over Duncan. You're taking Charles over Duncan too, aren't you?
RM: No, then I would go with Timmy. I love Charles, but in that company ... you said Charles is on tomorrow, you should ask him the same question, to rank himself amongst those four.

I think he ignored the mention of Bird in that group. Reggie knows that Larry was not a PF, a fact that apparently eludes national talk show host Dan Patrick.

Simmons has Duncan at 7th in his Hall of Fame Pyramid. He ranks McHale at 35th.

Tim Duncan would have absolutely obliterated Kevin McHale in their primes. Can you imagine Kevin trying to guard Tim on the block? :lmao Put Duncan on those 80s Celtics teams with Bird, and they literally win the title (assuming they're healthy) every year.

Just think about it. Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, and Parish on the same team. Frightening.

Putting McHale ahead of Karl Malone is stupid enough to begin with..full of fail..McHale is below Tim, Malone, Garnett, Barkley and probably Nowitzki IMO..

If you listen to Reggie Miller on TV, you should know enough about his "analysis"..

I wasn't much better regarding Denver. In 2005 I remember Denver finished the season something like 25-4 and was red hot since Karl took over as coach. After they went up 1-0 on San Antonio I premature ejaculated to the point where I was actually worried about whether or not Phoenix would be able to beat Denver.

In 2007, Denver finished the season 10-1, went up on San Antonio, and I made the same retarded assumption that upset was gonna happen. The high point of that season was when Dallas and San Antonio both lost the 1st game of their 1st round matchup, me and everyone I went to high school with were ready to plan a parade the next day :lol

I disagree with Reggie, obviously, but I don't know that calling a player a top-15 player of All-Time and a top-3 player at his position is "hating" on him. If he said that he would put 50 players ahead of Tim Duncan and could name 10 better power forwards, then he might have been "hating" on Tim.

I believe who he placed before him is the part that caused this reaction. Some may be OK with people placing (wrongly of course :D) Malone or Barkley, even Garnett...

I think Reggie's dislike of the spurs stems out of jealousy of Duncan's ability to win in a small market multiple championships where he was in the same situation and failed.

Reggie has a lifelong inferiority complex. Despite a long and decorated NBA career that may eventually see him inducted into the HOF, he'll always be the second best basketball player in his own family.

Reggie is one of the most overrated players in NBA history TBH..his legacy is inflated due to the clutch performances he had, particularly vs. the Knicks..the fact that he did it against a New York team had a huge impact in the revisionist history the media and many fans have today..everything is bigger when NY is involved, as I can attest to from living here most of my life..

Other guys that have become overrated with time, during my time as an NBA fan IMO..John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman off the top of my head..

Reggie falls into that group when it comes to inflated legacies and revisionist history..

This is true. It served him well on the court, always feeling he had to prove how good he was (and that he wasn't just Cheryl's little brother), but off the court ... not so much -- he did harness it for 'clutch', though.

And he's also pretty transparent. He waxes poetic about George often, and while I appreciate the love for Georgie (as I've been an avid supporter), Reggie's praise stems from the fact that Hill is from Indiana and he had knowledge of him from his time there -- Hill's high school exploits were well-known and he might've even worked out with him, IIRC.

Cheryl Miller is a girl????!?!

I thought it was his brother, I was calling her Terrel!

When TD came into the league, someone told me he could be the next McHale. I said if he even came close to that I'd be more than happy.

This guy dominated boards and the defensive end (see all nba defense teams) at a level McHale could not over a career.

TD >> McHale and I thought the world of McHale.

Disagree on Stockton. His steals and assists records will never be passed. And he made it to two NBA finals and played well while his more famous teammate choked.

But I agree Miller was overrated. He didn't even beat NY in that series. His stats and overall career were unremarkable.

Chris Webber on the radio today:

Said Spurs should try to run with Suns because Tim isn't a great scorer anymore.

Minutes later he said Garnett and Wallace could lead the Celtics to beat Lebron's Cavs because even though they are old their competitiveness allows them to elevate their game to greatness.

Typical

Stockton was a great player and his longevity is definitely noted, but that's probably the main reason he was overrated..when a lot of today's fans look at Stockton's career numbers, they assume he was a dominant player during his prime..he was never that kind of player though..always an all-star caliber player, but his legacy is overrated due to his longevity IMO..

I still think he's a top 5 PG of all-time and I'd love him on my team, I'm just saying that his career numbers make him overrated by the way many people talk about him..

cd98

I understand what you're saying but I still disagree. He was averaging 14 assists in a half court offense. Steve Nash and Jason Kidd needed run and gun to get those numbers. Stockton shot over 50% from the field and a good percentage from the three point line and free throw line.

Sure he wasn't a scoring machine. He was too unselfish.

He would have won titles if he didn't hit his prime in the Jordan era. And Utah gave the Bulls their toughest battle even while Malone was choking.

I'd actually say Stockton is underrated given his accomplishments in the NBA. Those numbers are not just cause he played in the NBA for a long time. It's because he had a lot of incredible seasons.

I still don't think hes overrated. Its not like he known as a top 3 PG to ever play the game. I think he often gets ranked 4th or 5th. In that regard, I dont believe hes overrated. Besides, longevity IMO takes a certain amount of skill too. Its not like he didn't play hard or shy away from contact. He was always willing to put his body on the line but still found a way to remain healthy.
