UFC Star's Cold Shoulder Stops Fight
Originally posted 44 minutes ago by TMZ Staff
Forrest Griffin -- one of the most popular fighters in the UFC -- is backing out of his fight later this month because of a bum shoulder ... TMZ has learned.
Sources tell us the former UFC light heavyweight champ's shoulder injury is serious enough that he won't be able to fight Lil' Nog on May 29 in Las Vegas.
The extent of Griffin's injury is unclear.

That card is bad enough as it is minus the main event..

SHIT, I thought it was a pretty damn good card but now it all depends on who the replacement is.

Yea, this was the next card I'd pay to see. I prolly still will, but hopefully maybe Jon Jones can pick it up since he's "a year away" from fighting for a title shot anyway. His next fight is Versus 2 against some no-namer with decision wins - if Dana wants to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to putting together good fights for the fans he should give us Jones vs Lil Nog...there's enough time for a decent camp!

I have to take exception to your classification of Matyushenko as a "no-namer" - he's a highly respected vet who's been around a long time and fought some good competition. In fact, I believe he's already beaten Lil Nog once. Maybe he's a no-name to the casual fans, but the hardcores and old-timers know very well who he is.
More on point, I'd love to see Jon Jones get this fight, but he isn't scheduled again until July; this would probably be too soon for him to pull together a decent camp. Of course, he'll take it if they offer it to him.

Sigh..
According to MMA Junkie, Jason Brilz (18-2-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will replace the injured Forrest Griffin and take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 114. Here is the updated card…
MAIN CARD
~ Rashad Evans vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
~ Jason Brilz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira*
~ Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller
~ Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
~ John Hathaway vs. Diego Sanchez
PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)
~ Dong Hyun Kim vs. Amir Sadollah
~ Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon
PRELIMINARY CARD (Not televised)
~ Melvin Guillard vs. Thiago Tavares
~ Luiz Cane vs. Cyrille Diabate
~ Joe Brammer vs. Aaron Riley
~ Jesse Forbes vs. Ryan Jensen
Not very happy with this overall card. Page and Shad deserved a better co main event..

Bet the UFC lost some ppv buys with this one. A lot of people won't want to pay for the whole card just for the main event. Well, maybe that's not entirely true. They do it for boxing all the time, right? :rolleyes

Okay, I take back calling him a "no-namer" but he's not going to sell a match NOR is he meant to be a challenge for Jones at this point in his long career. I can only assume it's part of Dana's legacy building project, he wants Jones to be the next big ticket in LHW. The more I think about it, the more it's probably best they don't set him up with Lil Nog (who already KO'd Matyshenko). It would be an exciting, dangerous match for both guys...not fair to Lil Nog if he gets destroyed, not fair to the UFC if Bones gets destroyed.
WHO is Jason Brilz?

These points we agree on, though it's sad to see the old vet being used as a stepping stone. It's also sad that the best replacement they could come up with for Forrest was Jason Brilz. I remember the name but couldn't recall a single fight of his. Let's hope he puts on a good show - obviously so far his career has been forgettable.

They really did. They are going to sell this grudge match soon on UFC primetime. But with the overall card being weak any chance they had of over plus 700 thousand buys is likely gone..

UFC.com still has nothing about this development up on their site. It amazes me that the official site of the most successful mma org. in the world can be so... BEHIND on their own news. They most likely won't put anything up until the Brilz/Nog fight papers are officially signed, but with Forrest being one of their main draws they should acknowledge this in some way.
