View Full Version : I miss Finley

I said it earlier this season and I'm going to have to say it again:

I miss Michael Finely.

I don't believe the Spurs should ever release a player mid season like that again. The fact of the matter is that while everyone believed RMJ would provide SOMETHING we let a serviceable (HAHA I know) wing player leave that I really wish we had at our disposal now.

This is more an indictment of our current bench, but yeah.

Finley? lol He is the reason the Spurs got much better after the ASG. He was dragging the team down oncourt and offcourt. Bruce Bowen's defense and 3 point shot is huge against the Suns. In particular against Nash.

But yea, I'd take playoff Finley, D. Brown, and Barry easily over Mason.

I don't miss Finley at all. He'd be an awful matchup against this Suns team and yet Pop would have played him significant minutes. Finley was even worse than Mason for this team this season. Replacing one worthless player with another won't solve the Spurs problems in this series.

Yeah, I have no clue what Pop was thinking. Bruce was one of the few productive Spurs in the playoffs last season; I don't know why Pop thought he had nothing left in the tank.

If anything, I just miss the stability that guys like Bruce, Brent, and Rob gave us in 2007. Yes, they were old, but those guys had experience that players like Hill and Blair don't have. This year, we've had to rely more on these guys who are still pretty much untested.

mason cant even shoot anymore. the dude has shot in the 20 percentile from downtown since all star break.... of course finley would be better than that piece of shit. Mason is absolutely terrible. probably one of the worst players in the NBA. temple, hairston, fucking gee would be better options then that bum.

The one thing I miss about Finley is that he's a better 3-point shooter than anyone that currently comes off the Spurs bench. There was a sequence in the fourth where the ball was rotating through the guys we had on the floor around the arc and I was praying that none of them would try and shoot from there.

Also, I imagine it's frustrating for the players to swing the ball to the open man and see Mason or Bonner taking a shot that everyone knows has no chance of going in.

At least Finley was clutch and stepped up some in the playoffs as a Spur.

I'm getting tired of defending Mason. Ever since his annoucement of a trade, he's been an abolute dissappointment.

Of course Finley is decent in comparison to Mason..

Luke Bonner >>> Mason..

I don't miss Finley though..there's always the risk of Pop playing him too much, and he was a symbol of old age for this team..

I agree with the overall premise though..I always miss Bowen, Horry, Barry and all the clutch role players the Spurs used to have..they always showed their Turkoglus in the playoffs..it also helped that the Spurs had shooters..

Get over Finley, he is a washed up 37 year old. He'd be throwing up bricks along with everyone else in that 2nd unit.

The problem IMO is very simple actually.. Pop has never really settled on anyone as a regular rotation 2-guard in that 2nd unit. Especially toward the end of the year he was still dicking around with Garret Temple instead picking guys he would actually use in the playoffs. Now all of a sudden he expects Roger Mason Jr to be a big contributor off the bench in limited minutes.. ain't gonna happen, Pop.

If you were gonna DICK around with Garret Temple in the last month of the season you should have STUCK with him in the playoff you dumb jackass POP.

Is it merely a coincidence that the Mavs look like the dream team against the Spurs as soon as Finley joins and they're back to being the Mavs once he's gone? So yeah I don't miss Finley but I would take the other role players from the past back in a heart beat, particularly Bruce.

I agree about the bench though. Strangely it went from being the one strength to a glaring hole. Obviously due to Manu, but it would help if guys like RMJ hadn't fallen off a cliff.

If Finley made just his one last shot in the final seconds of their Cavs-Celtics game 1 series, maybe they are now enjoying a 2-0 standing over the Cavs...

I wish SJax is still a Spur...

This series, I miss Bowen more than ever. The Spurs don't have the defenders to guard Nash or JRich. Plus, you know that Bruce would be draining corner 3's. :(

This is exactly how I feel.

If there is one reason I feel like this Suns/Spurs matchup is different from the past three...it's that number 12 isn't out there on the court frustrating Steve Nash and making timely shots.

With Bowen on the court, the Spurs were often playing against a sputtering Phoenix offense. Unless they can find somebody to somewhat frustrate Nash, now we're going to have to get used to playing them kicking on all cylinders. Last night had plenty of perfect examples of how the Suns only need a little bit of momentum to kick off a 10-15 point run.
