His ceiling as a player is so low, it's frustrating to see that he's one of the bigs so entrenched in our bench for the last 2 years. He's not like a Robert Horry, or even a Malik Rose, somebody who steps up and no one is surprised they had that within them. Bonner stepping up has become abnormal. It's rare. His shooting mechanics are far from ideal too, sometimes you can tell his release is off almost right after he shoots it. I want to say he might have even air balled a three recently.

This playoff run is as good as it gets from Bonner. His production this year is a very steady increase from his 21% shooting last playoffs.

he's 29% from 3 in the PO and 0% this series. awesome

I actually appreciate Bonner more than most posters on here but at this point theres really no way to defend him. His balls shrivel up in the playoffs plain and simple, he cant hit a shot to save his life. What I dont understand though is why Dice is only getting 20 mpg, he can hit the 3 but his mid-range jumper has been money. He's capable of "spacing the floor" although to somewhat smaller extent. Dice should be getting 30 mpg minimum, give 20 to Dejuanito, and the rest to Bonner.

id take Mahinmi and his rookie mistakes for ALL Boner's minutes...at least hes tall long and athletic enough to not let the sun's 6-8 front court get 4 offensive boards in single posessions :wakeup

once upon a time he could space the floor and hit 3's. now he just takes up space and reads the backs of the other team's players' jersies.

Was he a choker in last playoffs, brah?

He had too much pressure for a role player in his first real playoffs. But if you want my opinion without the lining, yes he did. He did the same things he's been doing this playoffs, but he actually had reasons to "think" in 09. Now he just needs to fire it up or sit down on the bench.

Unfortunately we all know Pop is going to give him one more shot at home in Game 3.

I say his future with this team rides on his next game. If he cant contribute in game 3 he wont play another minute IMO

Matt Bonner has been useless. Bonner's ineffectiveness goes beyond the numbers, if that's possible. Bonner followed up a two-point performance in Game 1 with a zero-point effort (on 0-of-4 shooting) on Wednesday. The Suns look like they are licking their chops when Bonner is in the game; he doesn't help the Spurs unless he's making shots, because he's not big or strong enough to battle with Phoenix's forwards underneath. For the second straight game the Spurs were obliterated on the boards (49-37) and gave up a demoralizing 18 offensive rebounds. Bonner's ex-teammate Brent Barry believes Bonner will settle down once the series shifts to Texas. But if he doesn't, it might be time for Popovich to gamble and extend rookie DeJuan Blair's minutes more in the backup role.

Bonner needs someone to punch him in the face and piss him off or something. Dude seriously has to wake up from this funk he is in and start contributing.

At this point, I would start sharing his minutes with either Blair or Mahinmi.

Why should they waste even one more possession on Bonner? That one possession could be the difference in the outcome of the game. They already know the answer to his future with this team. He chokes in the playoffs so he's useless to any team with championship aspirations. To think they could have had Scola for the same money.

Dice needs to play at least 30 mins. 32 would be even better. He's been resting all season. If they don't win game 3, he'll be resting the whole summer after game 4 or 5. The rest of the PF/C minutes outside of Duncan's should go to Blair. At least he brings hustle and rebounding. I'm not a big fan of smallball. The Spurs have to win the rebounding and hustle plays because they certainly aren't winning the 3pt line. They won a game against DAL without a 3pter so it's possible.

Matt Bonner must have really dug himself out of the statistic hole with those last two games, because what he put in the boxscore, surprisingly, wasn't far off from what we've come to expect from Bonner. Too bad these stats don't capture how ineptly overwhelmed he seemed, nor do they reflect the points scored over the outstretched arms of the red head.
