I don't know how many times I've heard that RJ "has been a big-time scorer in this league."
That means now he's just a has-been.

Pop has nothing to do with Jefferson..

RJ of last year was a good scorer in Milwaukee, even with his declining athleticism, because he had an anomaly of a shooting year..he shot 40% from 3s and by far his best season when it comes to shooting jump shots..

The Spurs' front office obviously banked on that, and it didn't turn out well..it turned out to be an anomaly, severely limiting his offense and fit here..

Can we get a SpursTalk countdown for RJ's contract at the top of the forum?..

Jefferson has convinced himself he doesn't fit into our system, you can tell from his body language and interviews. As long as he has that mentality, he will never contribute consistently.

If we had options, I would want RJ gone. But who could we get for his overpaid contract?

Trade the guy. Period.

MannyIsGod

That contract may be the Spurs best player next season depending on if they flip it or not. Well, that is unless RJ decides to opt out and really fuck the Spurs.

And overpaid expiring contract is a hell of a trading piece. If that contract had been expiring this year chances are that Amare would have been a Spur. Thats how good that type of a contract is.

MannyIsGod

But yeah, be careful with your countdowns because you need to pray he doesn't opt out.

As badly as Jefferson played, he wasn't the only one that played like shit. There's enough blame to spread around for this one. When they had a twelve point lead and missed those seven straight freethrows, I had a bad feeling that squandered oppurtunities were going to come back and bite them in the ass. That was pretty much the beginning of the end.

Borosai
05-07-2010, 11:42 PM
If he opts out, and they are willing to spend that money on someone else, I'm sure they can find a decent player -- or two -- this summer. If he doesn't opt out, you make the best trade possible, but you have to get rid of him. Worst investment ever.

MannyIsGod
05-07-2010, 11:43 PM
Being upset at RJ isn't about this game. Its not even about being upset at him either. Its just having high expectations of what he was going to do and being extremely disappointed. RJ all year long has been the round peg trying to fit into the square hole.

If he opts out they have no money for anyone else because they are over the cap. RJ opting out would almost surely slam the window shut on the Spurs chances to win another title in the Tim Duncan era.

I don't think it does. I think getting someone like Bell to start in place of RJ would not be a huge drop off "net".

Get him off the team by any means necessary.

RJ had the chances tonight and started out great getting to the basket.......but his finishing was pathetic tonight.
Settling for jump shots why when there are 3 other players on the floor who are better spot up shooters.

Those missed shots early got him down and he doesn't bounce back from that.
He was pushing hard on defense and offense his finishing let him down big which isn't usually a problem when ever he gets that amount of touches its usually a big game for him :( but not tonight.

What sucks worse is that Parker is actually using him and they appear to be playing better together. This may however be enough to keep him round next year.

Credit to the Suns on a great comeback.

Jefferson, Bonner and Mason

I hope I don't see those 3 shit on the team next season

Please don't forget Bogan and Mahimi. But none of them worse than Mason.

Roger Mason & Michael Finley, I lost any respect for these two players. Both wants to play more minutes and wanted to leave.

I was one of the guys who was salivating when the Spurs acquired Jefferson but while he's a real good player, he just isn't for this team. The system in place doesnt' favor him. He's a good player and tries hard.

This is different from Bonner not taking open shots, etc. That's it's different.

I don't think Jefferson will stay with the Spurs next year. Something will happen there and I wish him the best luck in the future. He's going to make other fans happy for sure.

He is old, but he surpassed Blair even in terms of his hustle (particularly on the boards). For all of the gifts RJ has athletically, even at this point in his career, he comes up pretty short on some rather big stages.

If Dice had played better during the season, though, TD might not be so worn down. He did not help to alleviate the burden on Duncan.

Dice regularly makes his share of mistakes (bad passes, biting on pump fakes and gambling for steals which blow up the team's rotations), but he played well, especially considering how shallow the Spurs' frontline is.

Jefferson just sucked and simply doesn't belong. Mason and Finley's expiring contracts should have been traded for something useful. That could've helped a lot. I really can't understand how this team sent Bowen packing after everything he did for the Spurs, but they chose to play nice with these two fools. Stupid.

+100

1) Concerning RJ: MannyIsGod stated it quite well. "If he opts out they have no money for anyone else because they are over the cap. RJ opting out would almost surely slam the window shut on the Spurs chances to win another title in the Tim Duncan era."

So opting out would be the worst thing he could do from the Spurs POV. Coming back to the Spurs gives them the chance to trade a very attractive expiring contract.

2) Dice: see all the above posts. Dice contributed very well in this post season. He ain't the Dice of old but played Dirk great and has been a positive force against the Suns.

I disagree with Manny on RJ, because RJ is not providing anything that cannot be replaced at a fraction of the cost. Heck, you may even get a better team by putting in someone who is a better fit, even if they have less talent. Someone who can hit 3's and defend. That can be a young player or a BAE level player

Of course, if the Spurs can find a trade partner, then that changes it. But from an impact standpoint, I feel RJ can opt out and the Spurs can recover.
