All I write part-time now for Hoopsworld. No situation involving the Spurs, excepting perhaps, 0.4 has ever irratated me as much as Allen's overblown "whines" the last 36 hours s/p the game.

Will be submitting and will provide link if published. Factual corrections please provide below:

Should Allen be Fined-Taking a Whine to a New Level?

Let's get this straight Mr. Allen, you stated right after the game that Bowen caused your ankle strain, then when films showed that was not the direct case - you continue to imply that somehow his "tough" defense caused it?

This story got off to a bad start when a reporter, Tom Hughes (Tacoma News Tribune) stated: "As Allen elevated to get to the basket, Bowen slid to undercut Allen, throwing him sideways . . . When he landed, Allen tweaked his ankle, sprawling on the floor as he fell out of bounds."

A review of the films shows this writer's "views" were most likely not the case (from all appearances and relays, Bowen had fallen back and Allen jumped and landed not on him but on the floor).

Yet Mr. Allen after the game stated: "Same old Bruce," Allen said. "I got caught on his foot and it just turned. He's good for that. He's done that before." This was his early story. Mr. Allen must have watched the tape for on Monday for he is now being quoted in AP Reports: "I went to the lane, and pretty much after that I don't remember anything," said Allen."

Later he said again: "I know Bruce (Bowen) was riding me the whole time. I was shocked I didn't get the call. I don't know whose foot it was, I don't know anything except I came down wrong."

As a fan and part-time writer, I believe that Stu Jackson should take a look at this closely. In my opinion, this is a time a player has gone too far in "creating a story that has gotten unnecessary legs". Is anything "game" these days to get an edge that might sway an official? Is a fine in order for Mr. Allen? In my opinion it is, to send a warning to tone it down.

In Bowen's defense, this "tragic injury" appears to be in actuality an accident that occured when a defender played tight defense - that is part (sadly not enough!) of the game. Allen's continuing badgering on this "pseudo" cause of his injury in my opinion threatens the integrity of the game and could conceivably lead to blows - the last thing the league needs right now.

Just as importantly, champions and true superstars don't whine like this do they? Three time NBA champion Kobe Bryant seemingly never complained about Bowen defense, he just went out and often got the better of him in some classic back and forth series between two truly great teams.

Mr. Allen, if you are truly good enough to lead your team to similar heights, then please prove it on the floor, not in the "court" of the media and public opinion.

Wait, this is a pro-Spurs article but says something good about Kobe Bryant? I must be reading wrong.

j/k

Nice read and good information, but I'd lose the line about "in my opinion". All articles are in the opinion of the writer, unless quoting someone else. Good luck, I hope it's published for you!

One of the local Seattle sportsradio hosts that is actually in San Antonio suggested that Ray Allen calculates everything he says to the media. In addition to putting the refs on notice he suggested that Allen may be trying to deflect the playoff pressure from the rest of the team to himself.

That's plausible as I agree that Allen doesn't say anything "off the cuff". He's very manipulative in his leadership style, contract negotiations, and media handling. Allen is not the average NBA player in that he spends his traveling time reading philosophy.

Should he be fined? Probably. Will the league? Not in a million years. This is a series between the small market Spurs and a team with no real chance of winning the championship, and the NBA would love for some way to generate some buzz for the series, even if that means trying to promote this series as a possible fist fight waiting to break out between Allen and Bowen. Of course they might as well fine him because Bowen isn't taking the bait and responding to his bellyaching, so there's really no hype to make.

Final submission = the "Mr. Allen is sarcastic".

Should Allen be Fined or it Just Taking a Whine to a New Level?

Let's get this straight Mr. Allen, you stated right after the game that Bowen caused your ankle strain, then when films showed that was not the direct case - you continue to imply that somehow his "tough" defense caused it?

As a fan and part-time writer, I believe that NBA Vice President Stu Jackson should take a look at this closely. In my opinion, this is a time a player has gone too far in creating a story that has gotten "unnecessary legs". Is anything "game" these days to get an edge that might sway an official? I don't believe so. Therefore, is a fine indicated for Mr. Allen? In my view it is, he went overboard to further impugn a reputation before knowing the facts.

In Bowen's defense, this "tragic injury" appears to be in actuality an accident that occurred when a defender played tight defense - that is part (sadly not enough) of the game! Allen's continuing badgering on this pseudo cause of his injury in my opinion threatens the integrity of the game and could conceivably lead to blows - the last thing the league needs right now.

Mr. Allen, if you are truly good enough to lead your team to similar heights, then please prove it on the floor, not in the media or worse in the "court of public opinion".

I will say one thing. I watched video from chanel 4 lastnight. Allen did in fact step on Bowens foot. Bowen was running backwards trying to stay in front of Allen. Then Allen jumped into Bruce (really causing a foul on himself that wasn't called) knocking him back more. As he came down he did indeed land on Allens foot. At least Duncan didn't whine about his injury which was way worse than Allens.

Again, this just seems an awkward way to phrase things. Maybe something like, "Perhaps a fine would put this cold back in the stable." And just leave it at that. The reader can assume, from your article, that what Gay Ray did was overboard, and the reasons behind the proposed fine or suspension.
