View Full Version : Lakers or Suns?

I know the Spurs aren't eliminated, but it's quite unlikely that they can come back from down 0-3 ... so, assuming they don't pull off the comeback, and neither does the Jazz ... who would you rather have in the Finals, the Lakers or Suns?

The Lakers have the Spurs' fans most respect-born hatred, I believe, just because of the history between the franchises (the best of the 2000's), but the Suns are really annoying this year ... I really can't decide who I'd rather see lose.

I guess it's win-win ... or lose-lose.

Fuck it, I don't want to see the Lakers in the Finals again. And I think whoever comes out of the East can beat Phoenix.

Especially since Phil got there. If it's say Pat Riley or Bill Sharman or Jack Kent Cooke...then I'd be fairly okay with it.

If the Spurs are eliminated, all I'd like to see in the WCF is an epic 7-game series like Bulls/Celtics, Spurs/Mavs, Spurs/Pistons, Lakers/Blazers, Lakers/Kings, Lakers/Pistons (88), Lakers/Celtics (84), etc.

Lakers because they're the best team.

Suns are a good jump shooting team that are playing above their heads. If they continue their hot streak, hat's off to them. But I've got a feeling that the Lakers power game will expose them and crack their confidence.

And the Lakers can do that because they're the better team, and not a one trick pony.

BTW, Lakers were #1 in 3 point FG defense (%) this year.

Lakers Advantage: Size
(http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_15035238)
Three Lakers are averaging 10 or more rebounds through the first two games of their second-round playoff series against the Jazz, the first time that's happened since the Trail Blazers did it back in 1985.

"Every team has one big guy," said Charles Barkley , a former NBA standout who now serves as an analyst for TNT. "But when you have two big guys who are athletic like (Pau) Gasol and (Andrew) Bynum , it becomes like a tip-toe volleyball game.

That's easy. Lakers.

The Lakers and Spurs own the West. Why change now ? The Lakers will crush the little Phoenix team. They have heart and good shooters but their hot shooting will die out and they will be dominated on the inside by Gasol, Bynum and Artest.

You see it happen every year. A team gets hot and then they run into a matchup problem and it all goes away.

Orlando vs Cleveland will be epic. I think its going to be LA against one of those teams and it will be a great series.

At least Phoenix can say they got by the big bad Spurs. --> At least the jerseys are the same. That should be enough for them to feel good about themselves.

The Spurs have some work to do to right the ship. We've got some nice pieces but not enough. Tim is still a good player but his body has broken down and he can't move like he used to. He needs alot of help.

RJ needs to go but I doubt anyone would take him.

Gone: Mahinmi, Mason, Bonner, Bogans and maybe Parker via trade. We need to move him for two mid range salary players. Bring in Splitter, a tall small forward and maybe another point guard.

Keep: Manu, Tim, Hill, Blair, Splitter and build around that if you can.

should be a barn burner series

How do the Spurs own the west when they're about to get swept?

2009 Lakers - Champs (West) vs Orlando
2008 Celtics - Champs vs Lakers
2007 Spurs - Champs (West) vs Cleveland
2006 Heat - Champs vs Dallas
2005 Spurs - Champs (West) vs Pistons
2004 Pistons - Champs vs Lakers
2003 Spurs - Champs (West) vs Nets
2002 Lakers - Champs (West) vs Nets
2001 Lakers - Champs (West) vs Sixers
2000 Lakers - Champs (West) vs Pacers
1999 Spurs - Champs (West) vs Knicks

In the last 11 years, with the exception of 2006, either the Lakers or Spurs represented the West in the Finals. Why change now. That's pretty impressive.

Hey, if Phoenix wins, more power to them. I just like the Spurs / Lakers history.

It's time to change history. I did not expect the Suns to get past round 1, but they are playing great team basketball. If they win the series against the Spurs, the rest is all gravy. I don't see them beating the Lakers, but I did not see them leading the Spurs 3-0 either. The more people underestimate the Suns, the more motivated they are going to get. When Robin Lopez returns to the lineup, they are not going to be the 'little team' anymore. They will still have to contend with Gasol-Bynum twin towers and the rest of the Lakers team, but they have shown a lot of heart. May be they can overcome the Lakers. My pick: Suns 4-3 against Lakers.

Yeah Mehmet Okur was badly needed against the Lakers. He could take one of the bigs out of the paint. I think Frye is a key player against the Lakers as well.

Lakers bench is only Odom. Hardly anything compared to Dragic, Frye, Dudley, and Barbosa. The Jazz would've made it a more interesting series if they had Okur. Losing him pretty much made it impossible to beat the Lakers with no spacing from a big man.

If the Lakers beat the Suns, I think they'll win it all. But I don't know if some of you are just bitter, overrating the lakers, or whatever. I don't think you can beat the Lakers with a traditional lineup as their bigs will be hard to get around. But if you can make them guard the perimeter, the distance traveled to challenge a shot in the paint is much more difficult. And Duncan was not able to dominate the suns. That's a good sign for them going forward. This will be their ultimate test though. Anyways I'm tired of all the laker hype. They are good but not unbeatable.

Winning you're first ring is a bigger deal than winning you're 4th or 5th. The day nash and especially stoudemire hold up the trophy I'm going to shoot myself. For me it goes Magic > Cavs > Lakers > Celtics > Suns

Cane
05-10-2010, 12:59 AM
Going to the Lakers. They have HCA and the best frontcourt of the West and have the confidence of being the defending champs.

I would much rather the Suns win the West but LA's advantages of scoring easier, high percentage buckets near the rim and securing the rebound is going to outweigh the Sun's depth and 3-point shooting advantages.

Suns need a healthy Lopez to really make things interesting.

However the East is winning it this year whether its ORL or Cleveland. It'd be crazy as hell if Boston made it out of there though...

lol Magic will lose. A team depending heavily on Carter is not likely going to win it all. That's all I have to say about. Cavs frontcourt will struggle big time against Magic or Lakers. The only team I think can challenge the Lakers is the suns due to their style of play.

Cane
05-10-2010, 01:36 AM
Scary thing is that Orlando doesn't really have to rely much on VC. Nelson's playing great and they have a pretty good lineup of perimeter players that can get red-hot at anytime; better version of the Suns imo in many ways. I'm more worried about Dwight Howard's mental toughness (foul trouble and free throws) above all else if I was an Orlando fan.

Dwight Howard is what makes that team. We've already seen that he struggles against the Lakers. I think this year will be similar to last year if the Magic play the Lakers again. Heartbreak. But they will still have to beat the Cavs. That's no gimme. I just think people are overrating the Magic as they've had it easy with teams that don't believe. (Bobcats and Hawks)

I want the Suns but believe that the Lakers will win this - most likely in 6. Their power game versus the Suns 3 ball is going to be the difference. The Suns have shot the ball so well so far and if they continue it might turn out different. But the old saying about jump shots comes to mind. When all is said and done the low psot presence will be the difference.

The Suns don't match up at all against the Lakers -- the Suns are just too small.

All the Suns can do is try to light them up with 3's and hope to outscore them.

Just my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Suns went into a cold spell behind the arc vs. the Lakers. Not because they have better perimeter defenders, but because with all their length inside, their perimeter defenders can take more chances and be more up on the shooters.

Lakers could very well sweep unless Bynum's injury catches up with him. Without Lopez the Suns have no answer to LA's huge size advantage - they can pretty much play volleyball with the bigs they have.

LA's frontcourt dominance allows them to have high-percentage, close to the rim shots which will probably be more valuable than the Suns depth, perimeter shooting, and pick and roll advantages.

Not to mention LA's got HCA. As much as I hate Kobe Bryant there's no way anyone in the West had a chance against 'em.

Thanks for the overall general consensus you guys are rooting for us.

You guys actually are a pretty classy team. I just hated you guys when you had Bowen and Horry who had no real talent or a complete game. Bowen was unreal defensively obviously but I respect Tim Manu and Tony because they're ballers.

Now Suns need to have Lopez back. He will be back we need him healthy. I say Suns in 6. We will continue to shoot well and Gentry knows how to use the rotations well and our bench is way better than theirs. Frye for 3 over and over again is what you'll hear.

Good luck this offseason.

Who is going to guard Amare or Nash? Not a good matchup for Artest to have to defend out of position to guard the Sun's best offensive players. Both teams have advantages. And Duncan did better against the Mavs. That shows the suns can guard bigs.
