Since the offseason is soon upon us I thought I'd make a thread to appreciate the talent that is Jon Barry.
Having played for 9 teams in his career (never lasting more than 3 seasons ANYWHERE) Barry put up Hall-of-Fame numbers. Averaging a whopping 5.7 points/game on 43% shooting, he was thought to be the next coming of Jeff Hornacek. 2.2 Assists and 1.9 Rebounds per game were nothing to sneeze at either. Wikipedia even has trouble classifying his greatness
Career highlights and awards
* No notable achievements
Some say his durability was his greatest attribute. Barry was so reliable he played in all 82 games once in his illustrious 13 year career. Obviously that kind of toughness and fortitude is something every team seeks. That's why Barry started, in 13 years mind you, a total of 36 games. Teams loved him. Fans loved him. The next logical step was to go to the booth and give his unquestioned opinion on the game he loves so.
That's where our story picks up. Listening to him talk about the Suns and how he wanted them to win made me nostalgic for a good ole fashioned appreciation thread. "You wanted the Suns, but I bet even YOU didn't expect them to be up 3-0". Well put Wilbon. Maybe he can give us more insight on how much better of a Point Guard Steve Nash is than Tony Parker. After all, Parker could never make that pass.

He has definitely hated the Spurs for years, and he's just a horrible "analyst" overall, just like most of the other former NBA guys..especially guys on ESPN..

I've always thought JB's negativity on the Spurs came from the jealous of his brother Brent, but I guess after Brent retired, things still haven't changed.
I personally don't care about his opinion that much about his view on the Spurs since he's a paid NBA analyst, but you can easily tell his bias from the pre-game show before the Cavs/Celtics game.

He's a bitch, I'd rather listen to the Suns broadcast team. At least their homerism for the Suns and hate for the Spurs makes sense. Barry just sounds butthurt.

What is his beef with the Spurs? Like you said, he clearly hates them, but why? Usually, with most biases from people who cover NBA, we know (or at least have an inkling) as to what the reasoning or genesis of that may be. With Barry, I have no idea. Was it the Spurs almost trading his brother, gradually lessening his role, then finally trading his brother? Maybe he didn't like the treatment he received, I don't know, but it's obvious he holds some type of grudge. The thing is, his brother doesn't (at least it's not obvious that he does), so why would he? The whole thing is strange.
He's amongst the worst and probably my most hated current NBA analyst. I'm not a fan of the ABC/ESPN coverage in general: They try too hard to be funny, I don't always feel like it's all about basketball even during the games and the coverage is so over the top Bryant, James, Lakers-centric that it's disgusting.
What is Johnson doing as an analyst? Isn't that a conflict of interest? The league should be embarrassed. I know they don't run these networks, but it's their product that's being shown and to me, it's being shown in a bad light on ABC/ESPN. For a league desperately trying to dispel the notion that their games are fixed, or favor certain teams, they're certainly doing nothing to quell that talk. I understand these networks want ratings and the Lakers, Celtics and James equal just that, but one time, at least pretend that they're not all just about them and don't care who wins and show someone else. When's the last time you saw an ABC game that wasn't Lakers, Cavaliers or Celtics? It's laughable.

He's a piece of shit. He was practically frothing at the mouth in 2008 when we were down 3-1 to the Lakers and saying that we didn't even have a chance to win one more game in the series. Fuck that guy. He was a worthless NBA player and he'll never be able to escape that.

I know for a fact that Brent is still on good terms with at least some of the Spurs.
Bonner, Manu, and RC were at his 2009-2010 New Years Eve party.
Brother Jon probably wasn't invited.
Too much butt-hurt spoils a good time.
In his defense, Jon Barry never wore a ridiculous necktie, unlike some of those TV clowns.
They just weren't tight enough.
