Pop doesn't suck at coaching, the problem is that he's too good.

His teams are expected to win 60 games every year and contend for Titles, so when they don't, it's considered a disappointment.

I don't have a problem with those results, other than I'm not sure how Carlisle gets so much respect. Wasn't he the one that had his starters in the game with 40 seconds left up by 15 against the Pistons? How is his inability to control his players not his responsibility?

I agree with timvp's list.

It's been a good year for rising coaches, but to me its about context. The group that D'Antoni has was competitive 2 years ago, but got sidetracked last year and never got it back. Add the thing they lost -- PG -- and suddenly they're back and better, but it's not like that team was light years from being a playoff team.

I really think Eddie Jordan has been seriously overlooked this year. He's taken a bunch that hasn't won in years, added three guys who couldn't win in Golden State, and found a way to make that group into winners. If that team ever could get ahold of a defensive big man (even Rasho-esque) to keep opponent's scores down, they'd start to look a whole lot like the Allen, Robinson, Cassell Bucks, but with a more likeable coach.

Skiles was remarkable this year, too.

I was pulling for Mac10, most people thought he would be the first coach fired this season, but he took basically the same team from the year before sans his second best player, won the NorthWest Division and took his team to the second round of the playoffs.

I'm not impressed with Washington whatsoever.

So they can shoot and run, and play a little defense.

They played in the East and beat a young Bulls team in the first round.

I think Skiles was as brilliant as any coach this year. His team got off to an awful start and he turned them around to make the playoffs. Very impresive.

The wizards would be on top of this game right now if they had Kwame, a non-injured Etan, and somehow managed to make the refs swallow their stupid whistles.

Some one hit wonder jumps in to share the spotlight this year and he wins coach of the year while Pop has done this for almost 10.

This is the most fucked-up year for awards I can recall.

It shouldn't have even been close for McMillan.

D'Antoni did a good job, but he also had a GIGANTIC infusion of talent.

Why Carlisle escapes blame for the brawl when if Isiah would have been reamed out by the media is beyond me.

Skiles did a great job, also had a lot of new talent, though.

Jordan did a great job. Problem is I wouldn't be suprised if the Wiz have basically peaked with this team, unless he can convince Arenas to tone it down.

I don't have a problem with voting for Karl, he did a great job, something than none of the other coaches on the list could have ever done. Still doesn't rank above McMillan.
