A grenade was thrown within 100 feet of the stage where President Bush was giving a speech today in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, local authorities told the U.S. Secret Service.

The device did not go off and no one was hurt, the Secret Service said.

Local police told the Secret Service the device was thrown as Bush spoke in Freedom Square in Tblisi, the Georgian capital. The device hit someone and fell to the ground about 100 feet away from the stage, the Secret Service said.

The Secret Service said it was unaware of any disturbance until it was informed of the incident by Georgian police

ABC News (http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=745667&page=1)

"Someone threw a device within 100 feet from the stage." and the SS was aware?

"A Georgian security official working the crowd saw it, picked it up and took it away."

Nice.

All of the liberal vs conservative crap aside, this is a goddamn shame. Our president goes over to celebrate Russian-American solidarity in the face of Axis aggression in WW2, and someone throws a fucking grenade?

That stupid bastard. I hope he's found and gets a bullet in the back of the head on his way to his cell, like they did in the old days.

Question: if you can call this an assassination attempt, what was the last one attempted on a US president? Hinckley/Reagan?

The funny thing is they freakin' love Bush in Georgia. Guess something about being oppressed and living under a dictatorship that makes you appreciate a superpower having the guts to take down someone like Uncle Saddam.
