Muslims didn't destroy the towers. The government did.

Muslims didn't destroy the towers. The government did.

Even if so, it's still inappropriate regardless who really was behind it

It won't end up going through IMO..

The reason it has even advanced this far was because there was no publicity behind it when it was being originally proposed..now that people know about it, everybody is outraged, even a lot of Muslims..it's just a ridiculous plan, especially considering the date, it's like some kind of joke..it's also sad that the community board accepted the proposal for the building before even knowing what the actual plan was..

I don't see the problem. The Muslims who died on that day don't deserved to be honored?

There is probably a better way to do that than with a Burlington Mosque Factory.

:lol

I get what you're saying, but yeah. It would probably be prudent to change the date but they should be able to open then considering they aren't Al-Queda.

Are you saying this is part of a conspiracy to bring down the WTC, treat the attacks as two seperate incidents to collect more insurance money, then replace it with a Muslim Coat Factory? Wait wait, clearly I misread something.

On second look this could actually be a good idea.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feisal_Abdul_Rauf

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf (Arabic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_language): فيصل عبد الرؤوف‎, born 1948) is an Egyptian-American imam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imam), author, and activist for improvement in relations between the Muslim World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_World) and the West (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West). For 25 years, he has been Imam of Masjid al-Farah (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Masjid_al-Farah&action=edit&redlink=1), a New York City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City) mosque. He has written three books on Islam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam) and its place in contemporary Western (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_culture) society, and has founded two non-profit organizations whose collective mission is to enhance the discourse on Islam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam) in society.
...
Abdul Rauf was born in Kuwait (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuwait), then grew up in Malaysia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia), where he lived until the age of 16. After a stay in London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London), Abdul Rauf moved to the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) at the age of 18 and began his studies in Physics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics) at Columbia University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_University) in New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York).
He has completed a Masters and requirements for a Ph. D at Stevens Institute of Technology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevens_Institute_of_Technology) in New Jersey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey).
...
In 1997, Abdul Rauf founded the American Society for Muslim Advancement (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=American_Society_for_Muslim_Advanc ement&action=edit&redlink=1), a civil society organization aimed at promoting positive engagement between American society and American Muslims. The organization is now headed by his wife, Daisy Khan (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Daisy_Khan&action=edit&redlink=1).
In 2003, Abdul Rauf founded the Cordoba Initiative (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cordoba_Initiative&action=edit&redlink=1), another registered nonprofit organization with offices in both New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York) and Kuala Lumpur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuala_Lumpur), Malaysia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia). As CEO of Cordoba Initiative (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cordoba_Initiative&action=edit&redlink=1), Abdul Rauf coordinates projects that emphasize the bonds that connect the Muslim World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_World) and the West (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West).

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irshad_Manji

that has been named a Muslim Leader of Tomorrow by the American Society for Muslim Advancement (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=American_Society_for_Muslim_Advanc ement&action=edit&redlink=1).

Irshad Manji (born 1968) is a Canadian author, journalist, lesbian, and advocate of reform. Manji is director of the Moral Courage Project at New York University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_University), which aims to teach young leaders to "challenge political correctness, intellectual conformity and self-censorship." She is also founder and president of Project Ijtihad, a charitable organization promoting a "tradition of critical thinking, debate and dissent" in Islam, among a "network of reform-minded Muslims (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslims) and non-Muslim allies."

Manji is a well-known critic of traditional mainstream Islam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Islam) and was described by The New York Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times) as "Osama bin Laden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden)'s worst nightmare".

Location is a bit weird and I don't have a clue where they plan to get a financing, but in general such people are needed and must be supported. Islam is due for some kind of reformation, council or whatever.
